Bak Kut Teh Lunch At Restoran Tung Lok Hin, Ipoh

Hubby, I and a lady friend wanted to try something new for lunch one afternoon. The lady friend does not know the place so we fixed a location to meet.
On the way to meet our friend.
The midday sun was hot and looked like it will rain in the late afternoon.
Unfortunately, the place we were heading for was closed!
So we ended up at Restoran Tung Lok Hin for Bak Kut Teh.
This place has been around for a long time but this was my first time here.
We had to choose our tea from the multiple choices in the basket.
We agreed on this packet of Green Tea and gave it to the waiter.
The waiter came back with the tea in the white kettle and a small pitcher.
From the kettle, the tea is poured into the pitcher, then into the tea cups.
4 small tea cups for 3 people.
Does anyone know the reason for the extra cup?
Two pretty porcelain containers.
One for chopped raw garlic, the other for cut chili padi.
A small clay pot of Bak Kut Teh in soup, consisting of pork rib, pig's stomach, bean curd sheet, tofu puff, enoki mushrooms, etc.
A small bowl of cut Chinese Crullers.
A small clay pot of pork ribs, pig's stomach, dried cuttlefish, okra, dried chili, etc. cooked in the dried version.
2 bowls of Yam or Taro Rice (pic.) and 1 bowl of white rice. I love yam rice but we could only find 2 small pieces of yam cubes in each bowl.
A very satisfying lunch treat from our lady friend.

    1. Once a year means its a long time to wait for you. That's about another 6 months to wait for the next Chinese New Year!

  2. Love both version of BKT, soupy & dry. For soupy, the broth must be full of herbal taste & some can be as tasteless. Prefer plain rice to go with the BKT instead of yam rice. I wonder why the tea must be poured into the pictcher before into the tea cups. Any specific reasons?

    1. Me too. The soup will go well with white rice and the dry version goes well with yam rice. I can get yam rice just on its own. Sorry, I really have no idea why the tea must go into the pitcher before pouring into the tea cups....must ask the tea drinking experts! Ha ha....

But, I am sure I eat things you can't imagine eating. :)

  8. I believe the extra cup is to cool down the tea for those who want. But this one already comes with pitcher so I dunno!
