Home Grown Green + Purple Brinjals & Ladies Fingers

During the long rainy season, some of the edible plants that did well are the ladies' finger and the brinjals. Brinjals are also known as eggplants or aubergine.

Long green ladies' fingers.
Green brinjals.
Purple brinjal.
Purple brinjal.
Purple brinjals take slightly longer time to cook than the green brinjals.
On this particular morning, I harvested 2 long green ladies' fingers, 1 purple brinjal and 3 green brinjals.
I usually steamed the brinjals and the ladies fingers. Sometimes, I will add them to the curry dish. This time, I used the brinjals and ladies' fingers together with cabbage to cook with sambal belacan + dried shrimps.

I saw the following photos when I was holidaying in Penang. I know the 2 portraits belong to 2 members of the Beatles group but I don't know their name. Can you help me with their names?

If you must choose, take a good name rather than great riches;
for to be held in loving esteem is better than silver and gold.

  1. The purple one is very pretty. Both of these are John Lennon

  2. Never seen or buy green brinjal. Oh, they cook faster than the purple brinjal?? I didn't know that.

    It has been raining since last night and it is still raining outside. What a first day of school. Wet and cold.

    1. Green brinjal is not common and the texture is smooth and softer. We haven't have rain for about a week but it did rain yesterday evening.

  6. That's John Lennon. 2nd one looks like him too...or George Harrison. We had brinjal and ladies fingers fried with sambal udang kering today, what a coincidence!

  14. Your brinjals and lady fingers look beautiful, and i'm sure they taste as good as they look.

    John Lennon was the member of the Beatles who wore the round glasses, so both of these are probably pictures of him, one from a younger age and one after the band broke up.
