Wan Tan Noodle & One Dish Home Cooked Dinner

Last Friday we went out to buy prawns.  There is a stall that will only open on Friday morning.

That Friday, this roadside stall was crowded with customers waiting to buy fish and prawns for the Chinese New Year celebration.
Fish and prawns selling like hot cakes.
I didn't want to wait around. I quickly bought 2 kilos of prawns at RM60 per kilo. A friend wanted 1 kilo and 1 kilo for myself.
After cleaning, I was too tired to cook dinner so we went to Buntong village for wan tan noodle.
That evening I only want a bowl of minced meat dumplings (wan ton) because I was not very hungry.
I have seen mother-in-law plants flower but so far the ones in my garden have yet to flower.
~~~~~
I have harvested some bok choy from my hubby's vertical garden.
I had a small taro in my fridge. I cooked the taro with garlic and dried shrimp and added the bok choy to the taro. This is the 1 dish dinner with steamed brown rice on a lazy evening.
Saw this cat outside a shop. Just look at how it sat.
I saw this cat outside a restaurant and it look sleepy.
My son, obey your father's commands,
and don't neglect your mother's instruction.
Keep their words always in your heart.
Tie them around your neck.
When you walk, their counsel will lead you.
When you sleep, they will protect you.
When you wake up, they will advise you.
Fruitful Bottle Gourd Plants In my Garden
There are 3 bottle gourd plants growing in a big pot in my garden.
After harvesting the 1st batch of bottle gourds, more bottle gourds appeared on the vines.
Some of the gourds have different shapes.
But mostly, they are shaped like the above.
I love to see the gourds hanging down from the vines.
There was one hanging down right in the middle of the walking path and hubby and I sometimes get knocked on the head by the gourd. Recently, I harvested one of the biggest gourd and found that it grown a bit old. The skin got very, very hard to cut.
So, I quickly went out to the garden to harvest the above 6 gourds before they got too old. Fortunately, the flesh is still edible and haven't got fibrous. I have used 2 of the gourds for cooking our dinners and given away the other 4 gourds to friends.
1st dinner: A one dish dinner with steamed brown rice.
A self invented dish. I don't have a name for this dish. I made minced chicken breast meat + fish paste patties. I fried the patties. I lightly brown some chopped garlic in the pot, add the cut gourd and water and let it cook. When the gourd is soft, I add the patties and let it simmer a short while, add salt to taste. I forgot that the gourd will release water so it looks like a soupy dish. We finished the whole dish.
2nd dinner: We had boiled gourd soup, steamed Chinese sausage and steamed brown rice.
Ingredients for soup: Bottle gourd, pork rib, carrot, red dates, goji berrries and dried cuttlefish.
Steamed Chinese sausage with casing removed.
Chili and soy sauce dipping.
Visitors to my mini bottle gourd farm.
My friends were wowed by the size of the gourds.
Don't be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
Making Soup With Home Grown Yellow Cucumber
I was encouraged when I succeeded in growing yellow cucumber for the first time. Initially, I thought yellow cucumber and cucumber are from the same cucumber vines. But I was wrong, they are different and not from the same vines. This is the 2nd time I had yellow cucumber vines growing in my garden.
Young yellow cucumber is not green but pale green or light beige in colour. They are also broader then ordinary cucumber.
The yellow cucumber and bottle gourd vines are fighting for space on the overhead lines. The yellow cucumber lost because the bottle gourd vines are fast growers.
Not only must the colour turns to brownish yellow but preferably the skin has crack lines before harvesting.
Maturing yellow cucumber, not due for harvest yet.
I harvested the yellow cucumber for boiling soup for dinner.
Ingredients for soup: yellow cucumber, carrot, corn on cob, pork ribs or chicken bones.
Sauteed home grown green amaranth with garlic.
Our dinner with steamed brown rice.
If he sows to please his own wrong desires,
he will be planting seeds of evil and
he will surely reap a harvest of spiritual decay and death;
but if he plants the good things of the Spirit,
he will reap the everlasting life that the Holy Spirit gives him.
Baked Chicken Wings, Corn Soup & Malabar Spinach
 This was one of the rainy days in the monsoon season.
Starting out on our morning walk at 7am.
7:05am
7:10am
7:15am
My breakfast at one of our regular coffee shop: croissant with butter+kaya and unsweetened black coffee. I was about to start eating the croissant when I suddenly remembered that I want to take a snapshot of my breakfast. Hubby ordered this usual: shredded chicken noodle (kai si hor fun).
Walking home after breakfast - 8:10am.
8:15am.
A friend coming to collect some pineapple baby plants from me.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner.
Baked chicken wings.
I cut each chicken wings into 3 parts. I kept the tips of the wings for boiling soup or for stew. I collect the drummets and mid-section and marinated them with salt, oyster sauce and sugar before roasting them in the oven.
Blanched malabar spinach which I bought from the roadside stall.
Delicious soup on a rainy evening.
Ingredients: 2 corn on cob, carrot, goji berries and pork ribs.
This was a no-rice dinner for hubby and I.

We glide along the tides of time as swiftly as a racing river
and vanish as quickly as a dream.
We are like grass that is green in the morning but mowed down
and withered before the evening shadows fall.

Dinner At Restoran Mun Ji On a Rainy Evening

We set out for morning walk at about 7:05am.

Lovely sunrise 7:10am
7:20am.
The sun partially blocked by dark cloud - 8am.
8:10am.
Japanese cucumber from my garden.
~~~~~
Dinner at Restoran Mun Ji, Menglembu. Halfway through dinner, there was a heavy downpour. We ordered the following dishes.
Fish curry with assorted vegetables and tofu puffs (small size) - RM35. We never fail to order this dish. This is the only place I will always take-away or "tapau" the remaining curry back home.
This is also another dish that we must order - Green amaranth with 3 types of eggs (salted egg, century egg & normal chicken egg) - RM15
For a change, we ordered salted fish pork belly in clear pot - RM16. This is a very appetizing dish and hubby had 2nd helping of rice. Total cost of dinner for 4 people - RM74.20
It was still drizzling when we got into the car. Currently, this place only opens for dinner. We usually go early to avoid the peak dinner crowd.
~~~~~
The next day home cooked dinner.
With the remaining curry that I took away, I added in some chicken breast slices, carrot, and home grown tomatoes.
Blanched broccoli.
For hubby, I cooked instant noodle without adding the flavouring.
To clear the last 3 remaining pieces of bread from the fridge, I toasted the bread. Simple and enjoyable dinner on a cool, rainy evening.
~~~~~
A friend who visited the Taiping zoo, sent me some photos.
Crocodiles.
I will avoid going near this place if I were in the zoo.
Iniquity is atoned for by mercy and truth;
evil is avoided by reverence for God.
When a man is trying to please God,
God makes even his worst enemies to be at peace with him.
