For the past few months, we have been making frequent trips to Gopeng or Kampar. Whenever we are in Gopeng or happened to pass by Gopeng, we will try to drop in to visit an old family friend who stays alone.
Travelling from Ipoh to Gopeng.
On one particular occasion about a month ago, we invited our friend out for dinner. We took her to a place in Lawan Kuda which we have not been for quite awhile.
This friend of ours has a denture problem and tofu will be easy for her to eat. We ordered a deep fried silky soft tofu with minced meat topping and sauce.
Stir fried sweet potato leaves with spicy prawn paste (sambal belacan).
Our friend doesn't like fish, she prefers meat. So we order a meat dish called dong po yoke. It was served with 2 pieces of fried bun (mantao). Usually it is a mixture of more jiggly fat than lean meat but this one turned out to be more lean meat than jiggly fat. I love lean meat but for those who love jiggly fat have to request for it. Good thing the meat was soft enough for our friend to chew on.

It was a nice evening spent with an old family friend.
We reached home just before 8 pm and here is a sunset shot to end the post.
In the farthest corners of the earth
the glorious acts of God shall startle everyone.
The dawn and sunset shout for joy!

Nancy, enjoy the start of your new week.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tom. Enjoy your new week too!
DeleteVery nice dishes. I would prefer some jiggly meat - heavenly!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Phong Hong. Ha ha..I have to admit that jiggly meat taste better than lean meat.
DeleteOh, the dong po meat looks so tempting. We usually refrain from ordering this dish because of d fatty meat. It's good that this restaurant serves theirs with leaner cuts.
ReplyDeleteWe love the taste of dong po yoke. If it is too fat, we will just discard the fat and eat the lean. But some friends will eat the fat too!
DeleteAll the dishes look so yummy. I like tofu ... dong po yoke too but only the lean part... hee..hee.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead, Nancy!
Thank you, Karen. Both were delicious. Have a great new week!
DeleteGreat photos my dear!Dish dong po yoke looks delicious :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alice. Dong po yoke is best eaten with steaming hot white rice.
DeleteWonderful to share a meal with a friend and you are such a considerate hostess. The meal looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mamas. Have a wonderful day!
DeleteI am concerned about your friend. Has she been to a dentist to have her denture problems look at?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mun for your concern for our friend. She has been to her own dentist. Just that she is one strong willed person and she wants to have her own way. We all just "shake our heads".
DeleteHello, it is great to share a meal with your friend. Love the sky shot. Have a great day and week ahead!

DeleteIsn't it wonderful to share a meal with a friend? :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. Have a wonderful new week!
DeleteHow lovely of you to remember someone who is alone. It must be awful to be old and alone. I would love to try each one of these dishes. Does the silky tofu really taste silky? I have never seen this Ipoh sign, I like it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ginny. The friend is not really that old. She is around 60 years plus. She has a car and she still drives around. The tofu is soft and quite silky. It is not easy to take a shot of the Ipoh sign because it is at a traffic light junction.
DeleteNow that's a feast I would love to enjoy. You do dine so very well.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
