A Hearty Dinner At Restoran Xin Qi Jia Fa, Lawan Kuda.

For the past few months, we have been making frequent trips to Gopeng or Kampar. Whenever we are in Gopeng or happened to pass by Gopeng, we will try to drop in to visit an old family friend who stays alone.
Travelling from Ipoh to Gopeng.
On one particular occasion about a month ago, we invited our friend out for dinner. We took her to a place in Lawan Kuda which we have not been for quite awhile.
This friend of ours has a denture problem and tofu will be easy for her to eat. We ordered a deep fried silky soft tofu with minced meat topping and sauce.
Stir fried sweet potato leaves with spicy prawn paste (sambal belacan).
Our friend doesn't like fish, she prefers meat. So we order a meat dish called dong po yoke. It was served with 2 pieces of fried bun (mantao). Usually it is a mixture of more jiggly fat than lean meat but this one turned out to be more lean meat than jiggly fat. I love lean meat but for those who love jiggly fat have to request for it. Good thing the meat was soft enough for our friend to chew on.

It was a nice evening spent with an old family friend.
We reached home just before 8 pm and here is a sunset shot to end the post.

In the farthest corners of the earth
the glorious acts of God shall startle everyone.
The dawn and sunset shout for joy!

  3. Oh, the dong po meat looks so tempting. We usually refrain from ordering this dish because of d fatty meat. It's good that this restaurant serves theirs with leaner cuts.

    1. We love the taste of dong po yoke. If it is too fat, we will just discard the fat and eat the lean. But some friends will eat the fat too!

  7. I am concerned about your friend. Has she been to a dentist to have her denture problems look at?

    1. Thank you, Mun for your concern for our friend. She has been to her own dentist. Just that she is one strong willed person and she wants to have her own way. We all just "shake our heads".

  12. How lovely of you to remember someone who is alone. It must be awful to be old and alone. I would love to try each one of these dishes. Does the silky tofu really taste silky? I have never seen this Ipoh sign, I like it.

    1. Thank you, Ginny. The friend is not really that old. She is around 60 years plus. She has a car and she still drives around. The tofu is soft and quite silky. It is not easy to take a shot of the Ipoh sign because it is at a traffic light junction.
