Curry Noodle Breakfast & Chicken Porridge Dinner

Yesterday, (Saturday, 109th day MCO) we met up with our foodie friends for our first breakfast together since MCO started in March. Our venue for breakfast was Restoran Ye Sing in Taman Bandaraya. After more than 4 months under MCO, we want to fix our craving for the curry noodles.

This is the second day in a stretch we had curry noodle for breakfast after the one we had yesterday morning in Ipoh new town. Both the curry noodles are equally tasty in their own way except that one is only RM4.50 and the other is RM6.00.
All the tables can only accommodate 2 customers because of the size of their tables. So we had to sit at 2 separate tables. As usual, unsweetened black coffee (kopi-o kosing) for hubby and unsweetened coffee (kopi-c kosong) for me.
2 bowls of curry noodles - yellow noodle for hubby and flat rice noodle (koay teow) for me.
If everything goes well, we will be meeting up for our once a week breakfast from now on.

Lunch
I reheated the 2nd garlic bread given by a friend in the oven.
At about 2:30 pm, we picked up our friends for rojak (mixed fruit salad). We couldn't get the rojak and we ended up only with chilled dessert (ice kacang).

Simple home cooked dinner
From the roast chicken given by a friend, I shredded the meaty part and kept it in the fridge. First, I boiled the rice porridge with some pre-soaked preserved vegetables (dong choy). Once the porridge is ready, I added in half the portion of shredded chicken, some salt according to taste and chopped spring onions.
Nice to have a bowl of shredded chicken rice porridge with a dash of white pepper powder for dinner on a warm evening.
Saw these pretty red flowers of the Peregrina plant.
All parts of the plant are toxic. The milky sap may cause irritation or rashes to the skin. Thanks to Mun of (Eat to Live) or (Live to Eat) blog, I downloaded Google Lens app to help me identify this plant.

Lazy people irritate their employers,
like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.

Chicken Porridge And Assam Laksa

When friends get together, we always talk about food or where to eat. One day we invited our friends over to my house to enjoy a simple assam laksa lunch.
Morning sky at 6:50 am
The day started as usual with our early morning walking exercise at the park.
 6:57 am
This was before the haze came.
Morning sky at 7:10 am
After our morning walk, we drove to the market to get some fishes to add to the ready cooked assam laksa paste which was given by our friend.
Not much choice in the nearby market, so I bought the above fishes.
Easy to prepare assam laksa soup with ready cooked paste.
Then the steamed fishes were deboned and the flesh added to the soup. Our friends contributed the noodle and we had cucumber and pineapple for garnishing.
A bowl of appetizing assam laksa which is just as good as the Penang assam laksa.
The day before, together with our friends we drove to Gopeng.
Came to this stall on the right, selling chicken porridge.
We ordered a plate of chicken to go with plain rice porridge.
2 bunches of stinky beans.
There was a stall just outside the food court selling local fruits.
We bought a big durian. Had it opened and ate on the spot.
We bought 2 kilos of the above fruits called duku langsat in Malay.
Good to drink fresh green coconut water especially when the weather is hot.
We drove back to Ipoh in time to collect the pre-ordered neen koh (deep fried sticky rice snack)
Crispy batter on the outside and sweet and runny on the inside.

As far as God is concerned there is a sweet,
wholesome fragrance in our lives.
It is the fragrance of Christ within us,
an aroma to both the saved and
the unsaved all around us.

Gopeng, Here We Come!

Last Tuesday morning, hubby and I took a drive to Gopeng. Hubby had something to do in Gopeng and at the same time to visit a friend there.
It was a bright, sunny day and it was easy driving all the way. We visited one of the Organized Villages or Kampung Tersusun in Gopeng.
A standing dead tree trunk...
Some plots of land are still without houses....
Spotted 3 goats. The brown one was watching with curiosity.
The goats enjoying their lunch...
Saw these green berries bush growing wild by the roadside.
I couldn't get any closer for a better shot. Don't know whether they are edibles or poisonous.
An old Roman Catholic Church where my sister-in-law attended kindergarten when she was a small girl.
We wanted to go to the food court near the Gopeng wet market but the entrance was blocked by the morning market stalls. Hubby went around the wet market and took another way to reach the food court. First time coming by this way. We didn't know there is a Sanggili Village hidden behind the market.
Hubby wanted to eat chicken porridge. It was about 11.30 am and the crowd was already there.
I noticed the pillars have been newly painted. I was here with my foodie friends last month and I remembered the pillars were white in my previous post. To read, click here.
We ordered a plate of poached chicken for 3 people including our friend.
3 bowls of tasty porridge.
An authentic chicken porridge lunch and fellowship with friend, recalling the good old days.
And not to forget this sweet dessert. A must order ginkgo barley sweet drink.
A shady big tree with wide spreading branches near the wet market and food court where we had our lunch.

"Well," you may say,
"those branches were broken off to make room for me."
Yes, but remember - those branches were broken off
because they didn't believe in Christ,
and you are there because you do believe.
So don't think highly of yourself, but fear what could happen.
For if God did not spare the original branches,
he won't spare you either.

Gopeng's Authentic Chicken Porridge.

On Wednesday, we missed our morning walk because we woke up late. We went for breakfast and upon reaching home, I remembered I need to pay a bill in Gopeng district. The counter in Gopeng is only open from Monday to Wednesday. On other days of the week, I will have to pay the bill in Kampar which is so much further than Gopeng. If I do not pay on Wednesday, then I will have to wait till next week to pay it.

I then remembered my friends and "whatsapp" them whether anyone of them were interested to join me and I will take them for Gopeng's authentic chicken porridge in the food court near the wet market. Immediately, I received their quick responses and it was my turn to pick them up and drove all the way to Gopeng. Upon reaching Gopeng, I went to settle my bill and drove to the market.
With a quick look around, I found this stall (M21). Its been a long time since I last ate this chicken porridge. It was the father's time and the son and daughter were assisting their father. Now the son and daughter has taken over and continued with the business. I was told to just mention the number of bowls of porridge and then sit down to wait for our turn.
I wonder why they designed this place with this pillar standing right in the centre, in front of the stall...
The locals know their way of going about their business. While we were waiting and seated right in front of the stall, my friends went to order the following noodles.
A bowl of Assam Laksa with some stuffed goodies.
They also ordered a bowl of rice noodles with fish balls and fried goodies.
This last bowl of beancurd and gingko sweet drink went to my friend. We ended up ordering some other drinks to quench our thirst.
Finally, it was our turn. The boss came to ask whether we wanted chicken and we promptly and in unison answered yes! This was a big plate of poached chicken, probably more than half a chicken! My friends commented that the chicken tasted like her mom's homemade chicken.
2 bowls of plain porridge to go with the chicken. The total cost of chicken and porridge came to RM15 (approx. 3.70 USD). If you are interested to try this porridge, make sure you are there by 11.30am. Within 2 hours plus, the chicken and porridge are all sold out. The business is open everyday and there is no off day.
After the porridge lunch, I took my friends for a short drive around Gopeng town.
This roundabout where the plants are, was the former place of the food court when I used to eat the chicken porridge and other noodles many years ago.
On our way back to Ipoh, we stopped at the Agro Mall just outside Gopeng town for a look around.
These are two of my foodie companions and they are fun to be with.
I also have other foodie companions especially my golden girls but they are very camera shy.

For Moses gave us only the Law with
its rigid demands and merciless justice,
while Jesus Christ brought us loving forgiveness as well.
No one has ever actually seen God, but, of course, his only Son has,
for he is the companion of the Father and has told us all about him.
