Breakfast At Restoran Sun Heng Kee, Ipoh

We have been skipping our morning walk on and off for almost more than 2 weeks due to the rainy weather. One particular morning, the sky looked like it was going to rain, so we decided to drive out to town for breakfast. We decided to try out the food at Restoran Sun Heng Kee which we haven't been to.

1st breakfast on a Monday morning.

After checking out all the stalls, I decided to ordered chicken wine soup with wheat noodle (meesua).
Hubby ordered flat rice noodle with egg gravy (wan tan hor).
The 1st day's breakfast was good.
2 days later, we went back to the same place for breakfast.
This time, hubby wanted to try the curry noodle as he saw many customers ordering it.
And I wanted to try the assam laksa from the same stall as the curry noodle. Between the 1st and 2nd day, we enjoyed the 1st day's breakfast more. Since this is a rainy season, we may have many opportunities to try out the places which we haven't been to.

According to the writing above, the food stalls have been in operation since 1973 in one of the side alleys. They are now located permanently at Diamond Cafe, Jalan Tranchell, Menglembu. The curry noodle business has been handed down to the 3rd generation.

God has sent me to help his Church
and to tell his secret plan to you Gentiles.
He has kept this secret for centuries and generations past,
but now at last it has pleased him to tell it to those who love him
and live for him, and the riches and
glory of his plan are for you Gentiles, too.
And this is the secret: Christ in your hearts is your only hope of glory.

Lunch At Cafe Wonderland, Ipoh

First, I would like to apologize to my blogger friends who have not received my comments lately. Only recently, I found out by coincidence that my comments were not published on some of the posts that I have visited and commented. I don't know why or what went wrong. So sorry, if my comment does not appear on your posts.

The 1st time we wanted to visit Cafe Wonderland, our car broke down half way. The 2nd time saw a long queue waiting to be seated, so we went off to another place. Finally on this 3rd time which was on a Monday, there was no queue. We finally get to taste some of the food here.

Some of the food served here.
Hubby and I ordered the iced lemon water while our friend ordered iced coffee.
Hubby and I shared this bowl of assam laksa.
Our friend ordered this black or charcoal toast for sharing. This was his love at first taste.
This garlic bread also for sharing.
I took some snapshots while waiting for our food to be served.
Just enjoy the photos and decorations of this place.

The above is for Tuesday's Treasures.

We came across this strange plant at the parking lot.
It says here that this is the Screw Pine or Pandan Laut tree.
Screw pine (pandanus tectorius) is an evergreen tree that can grow 4 to 14 meters tall. It is supported by aerial roots that firmly anchor the tree to the ground. It also serves as a windbreak to protect coastal areas. Screw pine produces edible fruits resembling pineapples and its leaf fibers can be used for weaving.

This certain hope of being saved
is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls,
connecting us with God himself behind the sacred curtains of heaven.

Wat Tan Hor, Assam Laksa & Fried Fish With Nyonya Assam Paste

The day started with a nice sunrise.

Finished our morning walk early at about 7:30am.
Drove out to Yummy Food Garden in Menglembu Industrial area for breakfast.
Hubby ordered flat rice noodle with egg gravy (wat tan hor).
I ordered assam laksa. I have no problem eating assam laksa for breakfast.
Love the generous amount of fish meat in the laksa.
When I can't have the Penang assam laksa, this one will do for me.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner.
Fried grouper fish meat and topped with Nyonya assam paste.
Beansprout sauteed with home grown Chinese chives, chopped garlic and salt.
2 salted eggs.
We ate brown rice porridge with the above dishes.
Simple, satisfying and filling.
Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble!
Then your light will shine out from the darkness,
and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day.
And the Lord will guide you continually,
and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too;
and you will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring.
Assam Laksa Overloaded With Toppings & My Failed Potato Project
There was 1 last packet of ready made assam laksa paste which I bought from Penang. It was nearing expiry date, so better to use it before it expired. The paste is enough for 4 people so I informed my neighbour that I will be cooking assam laksa for them too.
My bowl of assam laksa overloaded with toppings with noodle out of sight.
This time I used fresh fish. I bought 4 big "ikan mambong" or mackerel for 4 people. I love lots of fish chunks in the assam laksa.
I also used fresh pineapple. The cucumbers were fresh from my garden. I didn't buy the special laksa noodle, so I used rice vermicelli (beehoon).
Our delicious assam laksa dinner.
Thanks to the ready made paste, this assam laksa is super easy to cook. Will need to stock up on the laksa paste again.
Today, I want to share one of my failed gardening projects with you.
Sometimes, I kept the potatoes too long and they started to sprout. Instead of throwing them away, I thought I could try to grow them in my garden.
Surprising, the sprouts grew well and look healthy.
Actually, I have tried a few times to grow potatoes but failed.
The plants grew to about 2 feet.
I was excited to see the plants started to have flowers. But my excitement was short lived. After a while, the plants started to turn yellow and died. Could it be our weather or the soil or too much water? I hope some experts could give me some tips on potato growing. If I get a sprouted potato, I may want to give it another try before I totally give up. I wonder if anyone successfully grown potato in our local tropical weather.
For there is hope for a tree - if it's cut down,
it sprouts again and grows tender, new branches.
Nyonya Curry Noodle, Herbal Duck Noodle & Assam Laksa
On this Sunday, we decided to attend physical church instead of online church. Even though the number of covid cases is still very high, we try to attend physical church once in a while. Most of the Sundays, we attend online church service.
Sunrise at 7:40am.
We were early and we drove out to town for breakfast.
It was a nice sunny Sunday.
Breakfast at Restoran Xin Xiang Er Nong.
My favourite pan mee stall was closed that morning, so I tried this Nyonya curry noodle which is different from the usual curry noodle. The curry broth is more watery and with more turmeric (yellow ginger) but I quite enjoyed the taste of the curry.
Hubby ordered his favourite i.e. herbal duck soup noodle and this time he got the wing part of the duck.
~~~~~
After church, I decided to cook assam laksa with the ready made paste bought from Penang. I have been craving for assam laksa for a long time.
Plus, I checked and the expiry date is quite near. This time I used canned sardine instead of fresh fish because there was none in the fridge..
I cooked enough assam laksa broth just for 4 bowls.
2 bowls for ourselves and 2 bowls for our neighbours.
I used the normal rice vermicelli and canned pineapple.
Cucumber and limes were home grown.
Ta da! Finally get to enjoy a big bowl of delicious assam laksa packed with lots of ingredients.
~~~~~
I didn't cook and hubby wanted fried noodle. Our regular fried noodle stall was closed and we ended up at the hawker centre.
Hubby ordered fried rice vermicelli from a new stall.
I ordered a piece of fried chicken for us to share because I was still full with the assam laksa that we ate for lunch.
One morning on our morning walk, we passed by this moringa tree with birds on its branches. How many birds can you spot?
A pair of birds on the power cable above us.
Not sure what type of bird. Mourning doves???
Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other
so that you may be healed.
The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power
and wonderful results.
