Pickled Home Grown Ginger & Pickled Belimbing Buluh

Woke up this morning and checked the weather forecast. It said it will be a cloudy day and didn't mention about rain. After morning walk and breakfast, I watered the plants in my garden. About 10am, the sky became dark and 15 minutes later, it rained but only for a short while.

Morning sky at 7:16am.
We stopped at our regular coffee shop for breakfast.
Fish meat noodle with napa cabbage, tomato wedges, 1 fried fish cake, ginger strips and Chinese cooking wine added. The current price is RM9.50.
Croissant sandwich @ RM6.80
Croissant with ham and fried egg.
We shared the above breakfast and we each had a cup of unsweetened coffee. After breakfast, we walked home.
Last week, I dug out my home grown ginger rhizomes.
I used them to make ginger pickles.
The ginger rhizomes cleaned and the skin removed, and ready for slicing.
Here is my pickled ginger. I also added in some home grown bird's eye chilies.
I replanted the young ginger plants and now I have 2 pots.
I had the above belimbing buluh (bamboo starfruits) in my fridge, blessing from our friends. Since I had extra vinegar and sugar syrup, I also pickled these belimbing buluh. They can't keep too long in the fridge and will go black/bad after about a week.
This is our friends' bamboo starfruit tree in front of their house.
Bamboo starfruit flowers and fruits hanging from the branches and trunk of the tree.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
There is no law against these things!

Home Grown Ginger & Chicken With Raisin Wine Soup

Last month I harvested one pot of ginger and now I still have one more pot in the garden.

Recently, I noticed a ginger flower from one of the ginger plants.
 This is not the first time I have see edible ginger flower but this is the first time I get to see the colour of the flowers.
The flowers came from the ginger plants in this shallow pot (about 6 inches depth).
A few days later, I saw another ginger flower that came out from the side of the pot.
Some of the ginger rhizomes have appeared above the soil level.
I am looking forward to make pickled ginger with some of these rhizomes and the rest will be used for cooking.

Home cooked dinner
I used a lot of ginger to cook chicken with wine soup.
Since I have 3 bottles of home made raisin wine, I used 1 bottle to cook the above chicken soup. This soup is good for warming up the body during cool, rainy days.
Ingredients used: Ginger slices, red dates, goji berries, chicken, a bottle of raisin wine and some salt to taste.
I love mee sua (noodle) with the chicken and wine soup.
Share the chicken + wine soup with my neighbour who enjoy it very much.
The above is a Chinese art mural drawn on the wall surrounding the compound of a Chinese school.

Linking to Monday Mural.

You are my hiding place from every storm of life;
you even keep me from getting into trouble!
You surround me with songs of victory.
I will instruct you (says the Lord) and
guide you along the best pathway for your life;
I will advise you and watch your progress.

Home Grown Ginger & Lobak With Instant Noodle

This was the 9th day of Chinese New Year. Our sons have gone back to work.

Morning sky at 7:40am.
That morning, I harvested ginger from one of the 2 pots. I also harvested 2 green brinjals (eggplants) and 1 long ladies finger (okra).
All these ginger were from 1 single pot.
I washed the ginger, wrapped with kitchen paper tissue, place in a plastic bag and kept in the fridge until I want to use them for cooking.
~~~~~
For dinner, I took out the frozen ngoh hiang (lobak) to thaw before I reheated them in the oven.
I cooked plain instant noodle for 2 people.
I also added blanched napa cabbage and some long beans (from my garden). I seasoned the plain instant noodle with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
Ngoh hiang, napa cabbage and instant noodle for our dinner.
That morning we went out to the bank in Ipoh old town. This is the Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation's (OCBC) main branch.
The Straits Trading Building has been listed as one of the Heritage buildings in Ipoh.
 Information concerning the Straits Trading Building is carved on the above marble plaque.
OCBC's main branch occupies the Straits Trading Building.
6th Saturday Under MCO
Yesterday was the 6th Saturday under MCO and also the 39th day MCO. Most of the day was cloudy and by late afternoon, there was a bad thunderstorm with strong wind blowing, rumbling thunder and lightning. There was flash flood in some parts of Ipoh and there was a case of a car buried under a fallen big tree.
View of the Kledang Hill (west side) at 7:18 am.
Sunrise on the opposite side (east) at 7:19 am.
Goji berries or wolf berries plant from my garden.
I don't know how long I will have to wait for it to bear berries.
Different types of cactus I brought back from our last holiday in Cameron Highland.
Dark clouds on the east side at 7:50 am.
Clear sky over Kledang Hill (east side) at 7:50 am.
Hubby went to buy breakfast from the steamed rice noodle (chee cheong fun) stall. We called up one day earlier to place our order to avoid the long queue.
Our breakfast orders packed ready for pick up.
Chee cheong fun with a mixture of sauces for me (small portion).
Chee cheong fun with crispy onion, onion oil, sesame seeds and soy sauce (dry version) for hubby (small portion).
Side order #1: pig's skin and tofu puff curry.
Side order #2: Crunchy bean curd sheet.
1st time under MCO, hubby gets to enjoy his favourite chee cheong fun.
Lunch
A friend blessed us with 2 sweet buns.
I sliced the buns into 4 slices each and spread home made kaya (egg and coconut milk jam) and strawberry jam (blessing from a friend) on them.
~~~~~
Sweet and healthy snack in between lunch and dinner.
I cut 2 mangoes for hubby and I.
Hope to buy again on my next trip to the fruit stall.

Harvests from my garden
I need some ginger for cooking, so I dug out some homegrown ginger from my garden.
I harvested malabar spinach, long beans, and red okra for dinner.
I used some of the harvested ginger to cook the above stewed dish which consisted of pig's trotter, chicken feet, duck feet, dried shittake mushrooms and Chinese cabbage.
Blanched malabar spinach, long beans, and red okra, drizzled with garlic oil and soy sauce.
Dinner for 2 people.

For the Lord is King and rules the nations.
Both proud and humble together,
all who are mortal - born to die - shall worship him.
