Aglaonema 'Gold Dust' is another variety of the Chinese Evergreen plant. I have one pot growing in my garden.
At one time, my Aglaonema 'Gold Dust' was infested with mealy bugs.
Mealy bugs infestation is a common problem to Aglaonema plants.
Here are 2 closed up view of mealy bugs on my Aglaonema leaves.
I cut off all the infested leaves and left behind the very young and tender leaves.
My pot of Aglaonema 'Gold Dust' looked so miserable I thought I was going to lose it but one by one the leaves started to grow.
More and more leaves appeared and it was back to its bushy form again.
The new leaves are free from mealy bugs. They are now healthy and glossy.
With reference to the plant in my garden, the leaves can grow to about 10 inches long excluding its stalk and 5 inches at the broadest.
And the leaf together with its stalk can grow to a height of 16 inches.
This pot of Aglaonema 'Gold Dust' is under my porch and away from direct sunlight. This plant makes good indoor plant but have to be exposed to bright light for it to be healthy and bushy.
It is easy to care for except for the mealy bugs problem. I water it once a day. I try to feed it fertilizer once in 2 to 4 weeks.

You plant looks so healthy now, you sure took good care of it. I had a similar one in my house a few years ago and it got infested and I was afraid it would spread to my other plants and iI threw it out...
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.
Hugs,
JB
Thank you, Julia. I took a risk and quickly cut off all the infested leaves. I am glad it survived and the infestation didn't spread to other plants. Happy New Year to you too!
DeleteA nice pot of healthy plant. I prefer to plant leaves than flowers.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Irene. Flowery plants need more care than leafy plants.
DeleteGreen-I love green. We got some snow yesterday, and today they say ice, and now it really looks like winter. You are lucky not to have to deal with the snow, and to still have green and a year round garden. Hope you have a wonderful end of 2015 and 2016 starts off in a wonderful way! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Erika. I used to think snow is fun but now I know that winter can be difficult and hard times. Keep warm and Happy New Year to you too! Hugs!

DeleteIs there any way to prevent those mealy bugs other than just cutting off the leaves and hoping they don't come back? We also get some white matter on the underside of leaves that I don't know what to do about.
ReplyDeleteIf it is not an edible plant, you can spray pesticide on them. If it is just a few spots, use water jet to shoot them off, hopefully they will not return. But they won't go off forever, they are insects and may return. If they are widespread on the plant, I will have to discard the whole plant to stop it spreading to other plants.
DeleteThey are a good plant the 'Gold Dust'. We had one that grew well down the side of our house, not there anymore.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret. Happy New Year!
