Late Lunch At Restoran Join Together, Menglembu, Ipoh

Whenever we want to have lunch with our friends who have a factory in Menglembu, we have to wait till 1.45 to 2.00 pm. They have to wait for their workers to come back from their lunch break before they themselves can go for their lunch.

Last Friday, we made a lunch appointment with them and we went to their factory to pick them up. They were going to introduce a new place to us, which they claimed that the food is good and the price reasonable.

By the time we reached the eatery, it was about 2 pm and we were the last customers. The eatery closes at 3 pm. My friend's wife did the ordering of dishes and to her disappointment, there were not many choices left. Most of the customers are regular customers and business was good that day.
These were the only fishes left. The cook deep fried the fishes. Then he cooked a preserved bean sauce and added the fish to the sauce.

Next was this steamed egg with some minced meat. In Chinese it is called "Suei Tan" (water egg). It may seems simple but not many people can master the art of steaming it to get a smooth, silky texture.

There was only this green leafy vegetable (choy sum) left.
Stir-fry with garlic.

And the last dish was a Lala shellfish (clam) dish, stir fried with garlic and onion green.

This is the cook in his simple kitchen facing the road. He has only 1 helper. He cooks noodles for breakfast and switches to cooking for lunch until he calls it a day by 3 pm. We had a very enjoyable and tasty meal and we will definitely be back for more. Good recommendation!
Total cost for our lunch = MYR 38.00 (approx. 9.45 USD)
(inclusive of 3 regular portions of rice for 4 people)

  10. At least you know your food is fresh since if they sell that much food they must get new supplies all the time. It still looks good, especially the shellfish! Yum!

    1. Hello Marleen, more water than egg, mixed, add a bit o salt then once water in steamer boil, steam over low heat till egg set. Do not over steam, the egg will turn hard and will not be smooth.
