It was sometime end of last year, I went to the plant nursery to buy garden soil for a friend and at the same time to pick up a few sachets of edible seeds. Among them was a sachet of purple corn seeds. I couldn't remember the price of the sachet of purple corn seeds and when I germinated the seeds. There were only 5 to 6 seeds inside the sachet. Out of these only 2 seedlings made it.
This was taken on the 4th January, 2021. I placed both seedlings in 1 big pot.
This photo was taken 21 days later (from the 1st photo), There were 3 ears of corn. As you can see, even the silk is purple in colour.
I waited till the silk turned dark, almost black before I harvested the first ear of corn.
It is not big and rounded, so I didn't expected much from this ear of corn.
I peeled off the husks to reveal the corn on cob.
This is the 2nd time I planted purple corn and this is deep purple corn. The 1st time I planted purple corn, it was not fully purple. It was a mixture of light purple with different shades of beige and yellow. If you are interested, you can click here to read the post.
It is not fully formed, with some parts without any corn kernel on the cob. Since I only have this single corn on cob, I ate it raw as it is and it is sweet and juicy.
Purple corn silk and streaks of purple on the husks.

My sister-in-law (hubby's sister) wanted to buy Tambun pomelo and have the pomelo sent by courier to her house.
Hubby got in touch with his contact and here we were collecting the pomelos. At that time, these men were unloading freshly plucked pomelo from the lorry (truck). The pomelos were weighed, labelled, wiped clean, and placed into different baskets.
Since we were there, I bought 2 pomelos for my sister and also 2 for myself. Hubby and I love to eat pomelos.

I don't know whether the black millipede was attacking the red millipede or inter-mating.

DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe purple corn is pretty, sounds delicious. I am glad the millipedes are not harmful. It does look strange the black one is going for a ride on the larger red millipede. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Thank you, Eileen. Have a great week.
DeleteWe often see multi-colored ears of corn, but they are mainly used for fall decorations. I haven’t tried eating raw corn.

Yes, I think it is exotic.
DeleteI have never seen purple corn! Interesting! We did grow some corn last summer, and it grew well but our village grows corn in the community garden and sells it to pay for local projects. I will use the space for other vegetables this year. Our millipedes are very small (less than an inch) Yours look scary! Have a marvellously Happy day!
ReplyDeleteI am interesting in community garden but we don't have such projects in my area. Yes, these big millipedes look scary.
DeleteThe purple corn looks tasty when eaten raw. Hope you manage to harvest more purple corns. Love the pomelos. Which courier did you use to send them to your sister in law?
ReplyDeleteWe usually use CityLink but it has shifted a bit further away from us. This time we tried J&T, which is a new in our area.
DeleteI had no idea you have the climate to grow corn!!
ReplyDeleteOur climate is suitable for growing corn.
DeletePurple corn is unusual to me.
ReplyDeleteIt is very rare in our area.
DeleteMe encantó ver el maÃz. Besos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa.
DeletePurple corn looks pretty, i wish i could find it here.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the smaller millipede was just hitching a ride because he was too lazy to walk.
I think so too.
DeleteInteresting..........................
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo-Anne.
DeleteI have never seen purple corn. Have a nice Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThank you, and have a good week.
DeleteThat purple corn is very interesting. Growing up, we lived near the Navajo Indian reservation and they made blue corn tortillas out of blue corn. They were very tasty.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen blue corn. Would love to try to grow blue corn too.
DeleteCongratulations on your home grown corn - very impressive. We love Pomelo here in Thailand, we never had it before!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week
