Yummy Curry Noodles & Freckled Pomelo

Before the MCO, we used to frequent Pusat Makanan Ye Sing for the curry noodle.

One morning, since we were in the same vicinity, we stopped to takeaway the curry noodle.

We had separate tiffin carrier for the noodles and broth. Ingredients: Noodle, bbq pork, roast pork, chicken, pork skin, long bean, beansprout) 

Hubby doesn't like mint leaves, so I get to have extra mint leaves.

Here are my skinny corn plants.

Yesterday, I harvest the last 2 ears of corn because the silk has turned black.

This is what I get after removing the husk. The corn were not fully formed. I also harvested a red okra from a new plant.

While we were at the pomelo stall, we bought 2 pomelos for own consumption. Pomelos are much sought after during Chinese New Year season. Popular as gifts and for prayer items.

We bought 2 pomelos with freckled skin. Most important the inside must be nice and juicy. We bought 2 for RM10 each.

The fruit is nice and juicy, but not very sweet.

Do you remember the above old bus tickets? I haven't taken the public bus transport for a long time, so I don't know whether these tickets are still in use.

Home Grown Purple Corn & Millipedes

It was sometime end of last year, I went to the plant nursery to buy garden soil for a friend and at the same time to pick up a few sachets of edible seeds. Among them was a sachet of purple corn seeds. I couldn't remember the price of the sachet of purple corn seeds and when I germinated the seeds. There were only 5 to 6 seeds inside the sachet. Out of these only 2 seedlings made it.

This was taken on the 4th January, 2021. I placed both seedlings in 1 big pot.

This photo was taken 21 days later (from the 1st photo), There were 3 ears of corn. As you can see, even the silk is purple in colour.

I waited till the silk turned dark, almost black before I harvested the first ear of corn.

It is not big and rounded, so I didn't expected much from this ear of corn.

I peeled off the husks to reveal the corn on cob.

This is the 2nd time I planted purple corn and this is deep purple corn. The 1st time I planted purple corn, it was not fully purple. It was a mixture of light purple with different shades of beige and yellow. If you are interested, you can click here to read the post.

It is not fully formed, with some parts without any corn kernel on the cob. Since I only have this single corn on cob, I ate it raw as it is and it is sweet and juicy.

My sister-in-law (hubby's sister) wanted to buy Tambun pomelo and have the pomelo sent by courier to her house.

Hubby got in touch with his contact and here we were collecting the pomelos. At that time, these men were unloading freshly plucked pomelo from the lorry (truck). The pomelos were weighed, labelled, wiped clean, and placed into different baskets.

Since we were there, I bought 2 pomelos for my sister and also 2 for myself. Hubby and I love to eat pomelos.

Searching For King Size Pomeloes.

3 days before the Chinese New Year 2016, I was on a mission to search for king size pomeloes. Hubby received a phone call the night before and received this mission. But he was busy so the mission was passed to me.

 The next day after having finished all my chores, I was ready to set out on this mission.

 I am always looking at the sky whenever I have clothes out in the sun for drying. From the look of the clouds, I pushed my clothes hanger on wheels to under my porch, just in case.

 Before the mission, I had breakfast with a friend. We had pumpkin boiled with barley drink and my friend ordered a pau or a steamed bun. I think the filling is red bean paste.

 My friend ordered the wanton mee, topped with some minced meat together with a bowl of wanton in soup.

 And I ordered this tasty Hokkien mee (prawn mee).
After breakfast, we set out on our mission.

This is one of the stalls we went to. They do not have king size pomeloes.

Took a snapshot of these pomeloes, sent and wait for reply.

My phone rang. "Not big enough!" said the caller.

The king size ones have all been sold and left only the average size.
Our mission was then cancelled.

We didn't leave empty handed after going all the way to Tambun town. We ended up each buying 2 small pomeloes at RM6.00 each. We love pomeloes so we don't mind paying a little more for the festive price. Normal times the price will be cheaper.

This is the sweet pomelo. I love the sweet sour ones too.

This one has smaller sacs. Not as juicy as we expected.
After eating all the deep fried Chinese New Year goodies, it will be good to eat more fruits to cool down the body. Many have complained of sore throat and cough.

If you obey all of my commandments,

I will give you regular rains,

and the land will yield bumper crops,

and the trees will be loaded with fruit long after the normal time!
