Today's post is a mixture of bits and pieces or mish mash of photos I have taken.
Passing by 2 pigeons on one of our morning walk.
Waiting for this home grown plant to bear cauliflower.
Cucumbers hanging from the vine in my garden.
Green brinjals or eggplants harvested from 3 plants.
The above were harvested one day earlier.
One of the long beans is more than 25 inches long.
Every now and then, I have to check for these mealy bugs that hide under the brinjal leaves. I have to cut them off to prevent them from spreading to other leaves.
These black ants love to feed on the mealy bugs and also help to spread the mealy bugs to other plants. Someone recommended using washing dishes liquid detergent and water solution to spray on them which I have yet to test it out.
One evening I found this dragonfly clinging on the edge of a wooden frame on the wall.
It was showing its belly or the underside of its body. I tried to catch it to release it outside the house but it flew away and I couldn't find it. I found it dead on the floor the next morning. If it didn't fly away, I could have saved it.
Linking to Saturday's Critters.

I have never seen a bean this long! How do you cut a mealy bug off? I have read to touch them with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alchohol.
ReplyDeleteI will just cut off the infected leaves. I don't have alcohol in the house. Maybe I should try spraying with dishes washer liquid with water solution. Hope it works.

ReplyDeleteI´ll have to (and will) buy cauliflower soon. And wee. Your beans! Ingo´s Grandma grew beans, too. They were little compared to yours (sadly I never liked the salad she made from them, Ingo must NOT read your blog today! He will be on memory lane and do just that! And then be sad I won´t join in...)
Poor dragonfly, how sad.
Shhhh....about the bean salad. Lol! The safest is bean omelette.
DeleteWhat a great harvest!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angie.
DeleteYou plant cauliflower too? Wowwwww!!!! I'm impressed! I was under the impression that it only grows in cold countries.
ReplyDeleteI loved the ones I had in the UK, so sweet, so fragrant. The ones I buy here are bland, not really nice - not fresh I guess. I often see the vegetable sellers cutting away the black layer on the outside of the cauliflower. Eyewwww!!!!!
I saw the seeds for sale so I bought a packet to try. And surprisingly, it was successful and I harvested 3 cauliflowers from my garden. Nicer when they are fresh from the garden.
DeleteYou have a wonderful range of veggies in your garden. Stay safe! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Valerie. Hugs and stay safe too.
DeleteIt is wonderful you grow so many veggies, I love eggplant. I hope you can get rid of those mealy bugs. Great shot of the pigeons and the dragonfly is pretty. Sorry, it did not survive. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen for hosting. Take care and have a great week.
DeleteWow! The cucumbers on your plant look very big. Good harvest of all your vegr despite the mealy bugs. Hope you find a solution to prevent those mealy bugs from spreading. I think the dragon fly would also die even if you put it outside because it may have reached its lifespan. Will you be taking your booster vaccination soon?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mun. I hope the dish washing liquid with water solution will work.
DeleteA lovely crop from your garden! We have the same ant/bug problem here.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get rid of the ant and bug problem for good.
Delete...fresh from the garden! The only thing that I can pick is celery from my garden.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried growing celery.
DeleteThat's a great harvest. We use Neem oil and detergent mix (5 ml each in a litre of water) for mealy bugs.
ReplyDeleteSo I need to get some neem oil first before I start the war with the bugs.
DeleteI wish I have green fingers and could grow and harvest vegetables in my garden. Better get started to grow own vegetables at home.
ReplyDeleteEverything is so expensive and prices of vegetables have gone up too.
DeleteThe dragonfly really was pretty. I know you felt sad but I'm sure there are many more outdoors! Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you and take care. Sending you sweet hugs too.
DeleteBeautiful pictures and a great crop, even the bugs and the lovely dragonfly.

DeleteYour plants are going well..poor dragon fly..that's life. That is a long bean..
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret.
DeleteNice pigeons! We haven't walked for a couple days as it was windy and rainy last evening and Phil was tired. We were gone this afternoon and got home way after dark. Hopefully a walk will happen tomorrow p.m. I like all the vegetables you've grown! Quite the long bean! We went to see the Christmas The Chosen :the messengers movie this afternoon. It was so good to watch. Well work it! Great music, stories and movie!! Take care!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Beckyl. We haven't been to a movie for a long, long time. Take care and stay warm.
DeleteGood vegetable harvest 😀. Your kitchen garden looks productive 😁! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shirley.

ReplyDeleteHope that you had a wonderful weekend! We went to a couple of fun Christmas parties :)
Away From The Blue
Thank you, Mica. No partying allowed so things are rather quiet here.
DeleteAll the vegetables you grow impress me, you are a wonderful gardener!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mimi. I do enjoy gardening.
DeleteYour vegetables look amazing! So sad about the dragonfly, but at least you tried to save it.

Thank you, Julia.
DeleteTus verduras sr ven estupendas. Te deseo una feliz semana.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa.
DeleteNancy to kill mealybugs, I use a small swab soaked in alcohol and run it over it. As long as they are few
ReplyDeleteThank you, Norma. I will use your suggestion the next time I come across the bugs.
DeleteIt's such a nice feeling getting vegetables from ones own garden. How the end of life for a dragonfly evolves isn't always in our control. You're such a loving person. In nature it is now fertilizer for your gardens. It's life. Always love your posts.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yvonne. Have a beautiful day.
