Grilled Stingray For Dinner

The rainy season is here and we have been having rain almost daily. Moderate rain is good for my plants and it helps cut down on electricity bill.

Morning sky at 7:06am.
On the reverse side, misty hills.
Simple breakfast consisting of Chinese crullers, ma keok and black coffee.
These angled luffas were harvested from my garden 2 days earlier and I gave some to my sister and a friend. 2 luffas is enough to cook a dish for 2 people.
2 days later, I harvested the remaining luffas from the garden before I removed the vines.
The final harvest of angled luffas.

Rice and peanut porridge for lunch.
I almost forgot about the last few small taros in the fridge. They were still good and can be eaten. I boiled the small taros and removed the skin. Then I poured the leftover gravy from a dish over the taro. Boiled all 3 salted eggs because they have been sitting in the fridge for a long time.
~~~~~
Dine-in dinner in a food court.
It was only 5:20pm and not many people around.
I thought of ordering the pandan rice but there were people queuing up. Hubby ordered curry noodle (no photo to show).
Hubby ordered grilled stingray so I decided not to order any food for myself. I made a cup of milo for myself before I went to bed.
Old fashioned grinding stones or pounding stones. Many of these are still in use. These were made from granite stones.
You cannot separate fools from their foolishness,
even though you grind them like grain with mortar and pestle.
Yummy Snacks For Lunch
This was on a Thursday about 2 weeks ago. We received a call from our friend inviting us out for lunch. A few places were suggested. Finally, we settled on Kedai Minuman Dan Makanan Taman Timur which we have not been for a long time. Whenever I visit this eatery, I will order my favourite snacks. In fact, we all love and enjoy these snacks.
I ordered 2 plates of pie tees to share. Pie tees is one of my favourite snacks. I have the pie tee mould but I am lazy to make the pie tee shells.
Crispy fried batter with rojak sauce and sprinkling of crushed peanuts.
Thin crispy pancakes with peanuts and canned corn filling.
Hubby ordered this unsweetened black coffee.
For dinner, we met up with the same friends at the Perak Stadium food court. On that evening, only a few stalls were open for business.
Hubby ended up ordering this yee mee with chicken and wine in a claypot. I took a few mouthfuls and it was tasty and flavourful.
I had a hard time deciding and finally ended up ordering this plate of yee mee. It looked good but it was disappointing because it had a weird taste. After hubby finished his noodle, I transferred the noodle from my plate into the claypot. The remaining soup took away the weird taste for me to finish the noodle. Someone was not willing to go home after dinner, so we ended up at Restoran Kam Wan Aneka Selera.
We ordered bbq fish (half a stingray) to share.
After this, everyone was satisfied and happy to go home.
White bougainvillea with variegated leaves from my garden.
Pink Mexican petunia blooms from my garden.
A friend blessed me with some cuttings and now I have plenty of cuttings to share with others.
Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord! How good you are!
Your love for us continues on forever.
Who can ever list the glorious miracles of God?
Who can ever praise him half enough?
Happiness comes to those who are fair to others
and are always just and good. Remember me too, O Lord,
while you are blessing and saving your people.
Let me share in your chosen ones' prosperity and
rejoice in all their joys, and receive the glory you give to them.
Hawker Food For Dinner @ Kafe Best Hillview, Ipoh
I was feeling lazy on this particular Sunday and I wasn't in the mood to cook. So we ended up having dinner with our friends at Kafe Best Hillview.
We were early, reaching at about 6pm and most of the stalls were getting ready for business.
Chinese rojak - small portion for 4 people to share.
We wanted to order different varieties to share.
Oyster omelette (or chien in Hokkien)
Bbq stingray fish (ikan panggang) with spicy sauce.
Prawn noodle (Hokkien mee).
For the purpose of sharing, we asked for an empty bowl.
Fried noodle Mamak style (mee goreng).
Sorry for the blur photo.
Evening sky at 7:12pm.
Once we finished our dinner, we left for home.
I sowed cauliflower seeds but this looks like Chinese kai lan from the look of the beautiful waxy leaves.
~~~~~
Few days later, we went to Gourmet Square at Ipoh Garden for dinner with our friends.
We ordered bbq stingray fish.
Our friend ordered 2 pieces of spring rolls (popiah).
1 piece fried and 1 piece non fried.
In fact, we ordered a few more varieties but I forgot to snap photos.
This was the Ipoh Cathay cinema in the old days.
The cinema ceased operation and is now turned into a business centre.
This photo was taken in the year 2015.
The bright and striking red colour on the building is very eye catching.

If I try to hide in the darkness,
the night becomes light around me.
For even darkness cannot hide from God;
to you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are both alike to you.

New Year Eve Dinner At Kafe Best Hillview, Ipoh

Happy New Year 2021 to all!

It was New Year Eve, the last day of year 2020 and to us, it was just like any other ordinary day. As usual, we got up for our early morning walk.

These days, we walk around this area where the shops are. The streets are lighted up and there is no need to worry about social distancing.
Morning sky at 7:50am - view of Kledang Hill.
Sunrise at about 7:50am.
Can you see the silver lining on the clouds?
We went to a nearby supermarket to buy some essential and bought the above 3 Susu Mangoes for RM5.90.
~~~~~
We had New Year Eve Dinner with our friends at Kafe Best Hillview. We prefer a place where we can enjoy varieties of hawker food at reasonable price.
We ordered 2 pieces of popiah (fresh spring rolls)
Mee Goreng (fried noodle Mamak style).
Ikan panggang (bbq stingray with spicy sauce).
Ayam satay (chicken satay with peanut sauce).
The chicken meat is cooked just nice, not overcooked.
Chinese rojak for dessert.
Since there is no plan for countdown for the New Year, we went straight home after dinner.
Bleeding Heart flowers by the roadside, in front of a house.
Lord, you know the hopes of humble people.
Surely you will hear their cries and
comfort their hearts by helping them.
Steamed Pork Rib With Taro For Dinner
After our early morning walk and breakfast, I usually start by sweeping the porch area before watering the plants in my garden.
I observed my Ixora plant is with buds and flowers.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner (Day 1)
I almost forgot about the taro that was kept in the vegetable compartment. Fortunately, the taro was still in good condition. I was thinking of a simple recipe to cook the taro and I recalled a recipe for steaming pork ribs with taro.
First, I marinated the pork ribs with chopped ginger and garlic, oyster sauce, soy sauce, salt and sugar, cooking wine, and tapioca flour for a few hours in the fridge. I spread out the taro cubes evenly in a streaming plate and placed the marinated pork ribs and whatever marinate sauce on top of the taro cubes. Steam over medium fire for about 40 minutes or until cooked and the taro softened.
Blanched home grown white brinjals and okras, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce,
Rice porridge.
This was my simple home cooked dinner for 2 people.
It was an early dinner at about 6 pm. At about 8 pm, we met up with our friends and we went for a light supper.
We went to the nearest food court and ordered bbq stingray. I only remembered to take this snapshot and forgotten about the rojak (fruits salad).
I took a snapshot of the pigeons on the power cable on our morning walk.

Simple home cooked dinner (Day 2)
Blanched home grown Malabar Spinach, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
Home made salted egg.
Leftover steamed pork ribs and taro from the previous day's dinner.
Pigeons above us. Took this snapshot in Taiping town.
Feeding time for the pigeons, also taken in Taiping town.

Instead, feed your enemy if he is hungry.
If he is thirsty give him something to drink and
you will be "heaping coals of fire on his head."
In other words, he will feel ashamed of himself
for what he has done to you.
