Dim Sum Breakfast & Chicken Varuval For Dinner

Every morning, as we start out on our morning walk, one of us will ask the other what we would like to eat for breakfast. For this particular morning, hubby wanted to eat steamed big bun or "tai pau".
So, after our morning walk, we walked over to the dim sum restaurant near our house to buy "tai pau" and a few more items.
Steamed big bun or "tai pau" cut into halves for sharing.
I will take the half with the hard boiled egg.
I also bought fried prawn dumplings and a baked bbq bun.
I like varieties, so I bought a "nam yee pau" or steamed bun with fermented red bean curd pork belly filling.
Home grown okras or ladies fingers from my garden for dinner.
First time trying to cook chicken varuval (my own version) with whatever spices I have available. It taste good with white rice or Indian bread (capati).
Blanched beansprout, home grown Chinese chives and okra from my garden.
Dinner for 2 people on a cool evening.
Sunset shot at 7:15pm
7:17pm
7:18pm
A rainbow on the reverse side at 7:18pm.
One more shot before the rainbow faded away.
I spotted these 2 garden snails on the roadside on one of our morning walk.

Have two goals:
wisdom - that is, knowing and doing right - and common sense.
Don't let them slip away, for they fill you with living energy
and bring you honor and respect.
They keep you safe from defeat and disaster
and from stumbling off the trail.
With them on guard you can sleep without fear;
you need not be afraid of disaster or the plots of wicked men,
for the Lord is with you; he protects you.
(Proverbs 3:21-26, The Living Bible-TLB)

  2. No tai pao here - used to buy when I was in KL in the 80's, loved it so so so much! The baked bbq bun looks so good too! The nam yee pao looks like char siew pao. We do not have that here either.

  3. Your food looks sooo good.
Ingo ordered Greek food yesterday. It was so bad I had to bring it to the bin.
We love Greek food. (Before Ingo got sick) and he read by post about the new restaurant - no website yet, so he choose this sadly very bad one.
I enjoyed yours and your sunsets :-)

  13. So nice to have a tasty dim sum shop within walking distance of your house. I have not encountered nam yee bao around my place. Do you prefer the baked bbq bao or the nam yee bao? Which taste suit you more?

    1. I like different bao varieties. They are all nice in their own way, so no special preferences.

  16. Hello Nancy, I have been ill with some kind of stomach bug, or just over indulgence. I can't even look at food, but your almost purple sky shots are lovely, and you made such good shot of the snails.

  23. All you posts have motivated me not to be lazy and start taking walks since the gyms are still closed for so long here. I feel so much weaker and frail now. LOL

I will also start growing more vegetables again like you for fun and convenience.

Your varuval looks good. I had a regular recipe which I stopped making after the kids came along.
