A friend shared this eatery with me on Whatsapp and later another friend had lunch at the same eatery and shared photos of the food they ate with me. I was keen to try so we went for lunch 2 Mondays ago. The name of the eatery is Tan Cha Kee at 104C, Jalan Chung Ah Ming, Taman Hoover, Ipoh.
There is no big signboard of the eatery on the outside. I used Waze app to show me the exact location of this eatery. You will need to go up the stairs on the right side.
We were seated and received the menus. At that time there were other customers having their lunch, so I didn't take any photos of the interior.
This was brought to our table. The hot water in the enamel mug is for sterilizing, to clean tableware.
I ordered plain drinking water @ RM0.80 and it came in the beige colour enamel mug.
If I am not mistaken, hubby ordered honey lime water @ RM4.50 and it was served in the blue enamel mug. Using enamel mugs and plates seems to be the current trend.
Hubby ordered herbal chicken rice at RM14.90. There is a steamed whole chicken leg (free range chicken), rice, 1 hard boiled egg, cucumber slices and some blended ginger. The herbal chicken is flavourful. You can even order a whole herbal chicken for take away if you are interested.
I ordered chicken rendang with ramen noodle @ RM14.90.
There is ramen noodle, whole chicken leg rendang, 1 fried egg, fried peanuts, cucumber slices and some shredded pickles. Since hubby don't eat hard boiled egg, I took the hard boiled egg and gave me the fried egg. Overall, it was a satisfying and filling lunch.
After the other customers left, I started to take some snapshots of the interior.
When my friend came with his family, they were given a room.
The decoration makes the place looks like an old fashioned tea house in the old days.

Take notice, you senseless ones among the people;
you fools, when will you become wise?
Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
Does he who formed the eye not see?
Does he who disciplines nations not punish?
Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?
The LORD knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile.
(Psalm 94:8-11, New International Version-NIV)
The food looks great. I am wondering why you would need to steralize your own flatware.
ReplyDeleteThis is the common practice for restaurants. It is good that this place follows this practice. Just hot water to rinse the utensils.
DeleteThe honey lime water sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteI nearly bought an enamel mug the other day (but I feel hot too hot,so... bad idea), I let go.
Your food looks very yummy. And a nice place, too.
True, enamel mug not suitable for hot drinks.
DeleteVery nice, the use of the enamel mugs. Here, it is required by law imposed by the town council - hot boiling water is provided as soon as customers sit down at a table, to sterilise the crockery. They usually use stainless steel here or ceramic mugs. The chicken rendang leg looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteAha!!! The rooster plate! The owner of the instant kampua mee company here gave me a set that day - a plate and a bowl. Nice! I did blog about it!
DeleteHere, not every place provides hot boiling water to rise sterilize the crockery. If only our local council implements such ruling, it will be good.
DeleteI too like the rooster crockery. You are very blessed to receive them as a gift from your friend.
DeleteLove the old style mug. Good for warm drink. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteLike the concept of this shop.
These days, most cafes are using the concept.
Deleteso nice they provide the sterilizing mug!
ReplyDeleteI am glad they did.

DeleteInteresting place but I could not navigate those stairs in my condition. Gigi hawaii
ReplyDeleteThe stairs will be difficult for some people.
DeleteI like the enamel mugs, and your food looks wonderful. And I am hungry! Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Valerie. Hugs. Have a great day.
DeleteWith it being hard to find, it looks like a well kept secret!
ReplyDeleteBut somehow people will find it because it is featured in the Facebook.
DeleteThank you Nancy. The price of the food at Tan Cha Kee Cafe, Ipoh is reasonable. I like both hard boiled eggs and deep fried eggs as long as the yolk is fully cooked. Will you be back again for another food item on the menu?
ReplyDeleteMaybe yes if my friends want to go.
DeleteLindo restaurante. Me dio ganas
ReplyDeletedel fideo. Te mando un beso. https://enamoradadelasletras.blogspot.com/
Thank you, Citu.
DeleteThe food does look appetizing. Not sure about enamel mugs, very old fashioned and often used in the bush for billy tea here.
ReplyDeleteEnamel mugs no longer used in homes but seems to be the trend of cafes.
DeleteI like the interior of that place.
ReplyDeleteThank you, William.
DeleteIch liebte das Essen als ich ihr Land bereiste.
