Lunch At Tan Cha Kee Cafe, Ipoh

A friend shared this eatery with me on Whatsapp and later another friend had lunch at the same eatery and shared photos of the food they ate with me. I was keen to try so we went for lunch 2 Mondays ago. The name of the eatery is Tan Cha Kee at 104C, Jalan Chung Ah Ming, Taman Hoover, Ipoh.

There is no big signboard of the eatery on the outside. I used Waze app to show me the exact location of this eatery. You will need to go up the stairs on the right side.
We were seated and received the menus. At that time there were other customers having their lunch, so I didn't take any photos of the interior.
This was brought to our table. The hot water in the enamel mug is for sterilizing, to clean tableware.
I ordered plain drinking water @ RM0.80 and it came in the beige colour enamel mug.
If I am not mistaken, hubby ordered honey lime water @ RM4.50 and it was served in the blue enamel mug. Using enamel mugs and plates seems to be the current trend.
Hubby ordered herbal chicken rice at RM14.90. There is a steamed whole chicken leg (free range chicken), rice, 1 hard boiled egg, cucumber slices and some blended ginger. The herbal chicken is flavourful. You can even order a whole herbal chicken for take away if you are interested.
I ordered chicken rendang with ramen noodle @ RM14.90.
There is ramen noodle, whole chicken leg rendang, 1 fried egg, fried peanuts, cucumber slices and some shredded pickles. Since hubby don't eat hard boiled egg, I took the hard boiled egg and gave me the fried egg. Overall, it was a satisfying and filling lunch.
After the other customers left, I started to take some snapshots of the interior.
When my friend came with his family, they were given a room.
The decoration makes the place looks like an old fashioned tea house in the old days.

Take notice, you senseless ones among the people;
you fools, when will you become wise?
Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
Does he who formed the eye not see?
Does he who disciplines nations not punish?
Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?
The LORD knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile.

Dinner With Friends At Kedai Minuman Villa

We are now at 146th day of RMCO (recovery movement control order). When the situation begins to look good, new cases will appear and we don't know for how long we will have to observe the requirement of the sop. On our early morning walking rounds, we see used masks discarded everywhere especially on the roads and on the sides of the roads. This is unsightly and bad for the environment. This is why hubby and I have switched to the use of fabric masks which can be washed after every use.

For breakfast, we had takeaway fried economy fried rice vermicelli Indian style with lots of sweet and spicy sambal @ RM 2.00 per packet. Hubby had unsweetened black coffee and herbal tea for me.

As I was watering my plants, I noticed a wild mushroom all alone by itself. I didn't expect to see any wild mushroom as the current weather is warm about 30 to 33 deg Celsius.

~~~~~
We had the following for lunch. These were all from my fridge.
2 steamed pork buns given by our friend.
The above were leftover from previous day's dinner. To heat up the above, I used a nonstick frying pan.Since I was using the nonstick frying pan, I might as well fry the above remaining sweet meat. These can be eaten as a snack.
A simple lunch for 2 people. We kept the sweet meat to be eaten as snack.
My neighbour bought 2 combs of bananas last Sunday. She gave me a comb and kept one for herself. It has been more than a week and until now the 2 combs of bananas remained green. We will wait another week to see what happens.
Dinner eat out with friends at Kedai Minumum Villa, Jalan Dato Tahwil Azhar, Ipoh.
Yes, we live under constant danger to our lives
because we serve the Lord,
but this gives us constant opportunities to show
forth the power of Jesus Christ within our dying bodies.
A Foodie Trip In Search Of Gopeng Hill Assam Laksa & Beggars Chicken.
We have heard of this place up in the Gopeng Hill that serves Assam Laksa, Beggar's Chicken, grilled chicken, and etc. My friends and I were curious and decided to scout out this place. We had to pass through Gopeng town, then some kampungs (villages) to reach this place called Kg Pintu Padang. We have to drive up the narrow uphill road before we saw a little sign "Gopeng Hill Assam Laksa". We drove passed the gate and we were the first customers for that day.
A little place with nice scenery in the middle of a spacious hillside ground
This is the accommodation and the kitchen area, surrounded by greens, and fruit trees.
It was 11:00 am and they were in the midst of their cooking.
Here, they serve various kinds of Hakka cuisine.
That morning, we saw a mother with her daughter and a helper at work in the kitchen.
The mother cutting beancurd sheet. According to her, she used to be a rubber tapper. She stopped work as a rubber tapper after her foot injury and now, she operates this hillside eatery.
These beancurd sheets are cut into smaller squares before deep frying.
These will be served together with the assam laksa.
On the right, her daughter was cooking something in the kuali.
She was cooking stewed sweet, sour and spicy pork trotter.
We didn't get to taste this because it was not fully cooked yet.
Since we didn't place any orders with them, we asked what was available for us.
We were told that they have extra Beggar's chicken or Herbal chicken.
The chicken was still hot and the daughter needs to wear cotton gloves to unwrap the outer layer of aluminium foil used for wrapping the chicken.
Firewood is used for cooking Herbal Chicken and Grilled Chicken.
"Smile! Ladies smile!
As usual, busy snapping photos while waiting for the food to be served.
This place was mentioned in the local newspaper, and many from far and near have visited this place.
They even have a price list and contact number.
Please call to place your food order.
We ordered 2 bowls of Assam Laksa to share.
Sweet and sourish Assam Laksa served with crispy beancurd sheet.
We also ordered some Hakka yong tau foo or stuffed tofu and some deep fried wontons.
While we were eating, more cars came in through the gate.
This is half the Herbal Chicken, sweet and tender.
We found free range chickens on the grounds.
And there are dogs to watch over the place.
"Oh no, she wants to take my photo"!
"I am shy, please go away."
Arrived Home Safely & Dinner With Friends In Menglembu.
After reaching home, there was so much to be done. Our holiday was over and we are back to our normal life. There was unpacking and putting our clothes into the washing machine to wash. Floor needed to be swept and mopped. And after all had been done and I have rested, I went to check out my garden.
I have left my garden in good hands and the plants were well watered. Thanks to our friends, my plants are both happy and healthy! Thank you, dear for volunteering to water my plants!
 The Dancing Ladies in full bloom.
Another orchid - these pretty dainty flowers also in full bloom.
 And this Pigeon orchid also blooming again
 My one and only white brinjal turning yellow (maturing), waiting to harvest the seeds.
 Another brinjal plant growing well and looking healthy. Waiting to see if it is a white or a purple brinjal plant because I have sowed both.
Came back just in time to harvest the last 3 cherry tomatoes from an old, dying plant.
The yellow hibiscus in full bloom.
 So happy to see the flowers and all the new buds.
There was nothing in the fridge for home cooking, so we had dinner with friends at Restoran Makanan Laut Piew, Menglembu.
 Double steamed herbal chicken - half a chicken for 4 people.
Fried black pomfret with sweet sour topping of salted veggie (ham choy), tofu, etc.
Stir fried sweet potato leaves with prawn paste (sambal belacan).
The day ended with this lovely sunset.
And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing:
Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right.
Think about things that are pure and lovely,
and dwell on the fine, good things in others.
Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.
