Prawn Curry Noodles At Kedai Kopi Yan Won, Pusing

This was a Tuesday morning, last week of April.

Birds were flying over us but I only managed to capture this lone bird.

After morning walk, I watered the plants, quickly took my bath and waited for our friends to take us for breakfast in Pusing town. The coffee shop is Kedai Kopi Yan Won, #40, Jalan Besar (main road), Pusing. This is my 2nd visit to this place.

We ordered some fried bean curd sheet for sharing.

We ordered 4 places of prawn curry noodle (dry version). The curry gravy is thick and creamy and not spicy. Those who cannot take too spicy will love this.

Hubby and I ordered prawn curry with wonton noodle.

After breakfast, we walked to the wet market which is behind this eatery. On the way out from the market, we stopped at a roadside stall to buy glutinious rice dumpling (bak chang).

I bought 1 pillow bak chang (glutinous rice dumpling).

There are 2 sizes. This big one has salted egg yolk @ RM7.

I re-steamed the dumpling.

Hubby and I shared this dumpling for lunch.

Filling in the bak chang: shiitake mushroom, pork belly, salted egg yolk, black eye bean and red bean. I like the combination of red bean and black eye bean. Looking forward to the next trip to Pusing to buy this pillow bak chang again. Yums!

The warm and dry season is back.

My bougainvillea will be in full bloom again.

Fried Dumplings, Gaozi, Home Grown Veggies For Dinner

I was watering my plants one morning when I noticed a butterfly on my periwinkle plants. It seemed to like the white periwinkles and it didn't fly away even when I was standing quite near taking all the snapshots.

It is not often I get to take photographs of butterflies without them flying away.

After I had taken enough of snapshots, I continued watering my plants.

Hubby went to visit his friend in Pusing and came back with some kuih.

These are glutinous rice flour kuih with different types of filling.

The above were harvested from my garden. They were red and green okras, and white brinjals/eggplants/aubergines.

Steamed red and green okras, and white eggplants. Drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.

Deep fried sui kao or dumplings.

My friend brought the gaozi skin and I prepared the filling.

I boiled lotus root soup and we placed the cooked gaozi in the soup.

2 types of dipping sauce for the gaozi and fried sui kao.

Dinner (without rice) for 4 people.

We each had 1 sui kao, 3 gaozi and a bowl of soup.

We kept the extra gaozi and fried dumpling for the next day's dinner.

1. Pan grilled stingray fish and squid (wong kai lun) with sambal paste. 2. Angled luffa. 3. Fried sui kao. 4. Soup with gaozi. For 2 evenings, we had friends over for dinner and they enjoyed our home grown veggie.

Ban Mee For Lunch With Friends In Pusing Town

My sister invited me to accompany her to Batu Gajah as she had an appointment to meet someone and after that, to visit a friend and her daughter in Batu Gajah. We drove our own car and met up in Batu Gajah.

9.30 am

It was a cool morning with the mist covering part of the mountains.

 Once our mission is accomplished, we drove to the friend's house.

 Our friend cut a fruit which she brought back from Cameron Highland for us to taste. This fruit is totally new to us or could it be a vegetable. Could this be an eggplant?

 It doesn't taste sweet no juicy. The design on the skin is nice and this is how it looks like on the inside.

When it was time for lunch, our friend and her daughter took us in their car to Pusing for Ban Mee at Kedai Kopi Tong Fong, opposite the Police Station.

I ordered the longan with white fungus sweet drink.

I ordered this pinched Ban Mee (wheat flour noodle). It is a simple and tasty home made type of noodles. After lunch, we went back to our friend's house to get our cars. But first, I have something to collect.

I stayed behind to collect some plant cuttings.

 So nice of my friend to give me cuttings of these multi coloured Japanese roses. 

  Besides these, I also received many other cuttings.

 I asked for an orchid cutting but she blessed me with the whole bunch.

 Happy with all the plant cuttings, orchids and cactus, I drove home.

It must have been raining while I was in Batu Gajah.

I reached home just after the rain stopped.

Historic Batu Gajah & Simple Lunch @ Restoran Ming Feong, Pusing

After coming out from the hospital, we got into my car and drove down the small road to make a U-turn to go back to Batu Gajah town. The place where we made the U-turn is just in front of St. Joseph Catholic church, at the end of Jalan Changkat.

I parked my car by the roadside for us to take some pictures. I have been here a few times before but never thought of taking pictures of the interesting places in Batu Gajah. So we took this opportunity to do so, not knowing when will be our next trip here. After all, the weather is cool and we have all the time to spare.

This is my friend who went with me for the hospital visitation. In her working days, she has been here many times and this is the first after so many years of absence. Something has caught her interest. She is trying to get a better view without the fence blocking her.

So, this is what my friend is trying to capture with her camera. It is a new block in the compound of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

After we passed the hospital on our left, on the same side is the Batu Gajah Podium. In front, there was a stall selling some fried snacks.

Just after the Podium, I noticed this bright golden leaves plant. It is so striking and I must take a picture of it. Can someone tell me the name of this plant?

Opposite the Podium, on our right is this majestic building.

This is the Kinta District Administrative Complex of Batu Gajah.

The government offices of Kinta District of Batu Gajah are located here.

It is beautifully painted and grand looking.

One last picture. The drizzle has started again and we both got back into our car. It was way past our lunch time and we realized that we were very hungry.

We did not know of any place in Batu Gajah to take lunch, so I drove to Pusing town. I came to this restaurant before but it is a first for my friend.

This is a very old restaurant, quite popular in Pusing. Noted for its signature braised duck dish (kow cai ngap in Cantonese).

We didn't order the braised duck because the smallest portion is half a duck. That will be too much for only the two of us.

We ordered a small plate of fried wanton. 10 pieces of fried wanton served on a big plate with a small plate of chili sauce. Very tasty and the skin very crispy.

And this, giggle...so sorry, I realized I have not taken a picture of this yet...at least still have some noodles and half a fresh prawn left. Ha ha..this is Fresh Prawns with Braised Fried Noodle (Sang Har Mun Yee Meen in Cantonese), single portion. This is also their signature dish - tasty!

This is flat rice noodle with egg gravy (wat tan hor), single portion - good!

A plate of sweet potato leaves stir-fried with garlic. Very tender, good!
