Assam Laksa With Instant Paste & Steamed Pork Rib In Sour Plum Sauce

It was a warm Sunday morning. There was hardly any breeze.

Sunrise at 7:09am

Another warm and humid day.
Toast and Bru coffee+nestum for me.
Wat tan hor and milo for hubby.
The hot weather seems to be good for this golden leaves plant.
Does anyone knows the id of this plant?

I bought a pineapple which was not ripe and very sour. I thought of using the pineapple for curry but changed my mind when I saw a packet of instant assam laksa paste which I bought to try.
I boiled the pineapple in some water and added in the instant assam laksa paste. I let it simmer for some time before adding in the canned mackerel or sardine fish in tomato sauce. I only used the fish and discarded the tomato sauce. I thought I had 2 small cans of sardine fish but it turned out that 1 of them was a fried mackerel in chili sauce. So, I ended up with less fish flakes in the laksa soup.
I use rice vermicelli (beehoon) for the laksa.
Using lots of pineapple gave the assam laksa soup a sweet taste.
I used AA1 number one Instant Asam Laksa paste.

The bottle of sour plum sauce will be expiring soon so I need to finish it as fast as I can. I used the sour plum sauce to steam pork rib for dinner.
Marinate for pork rib before steaming:
salt, sugar, chopped garlic, soy sauce, sour plum sauce and bird's eye chilies.
Ayam Brand fried mackerel or sardine in chili sauce which I accidentally opened thinking it was mackerel in tomato sauce. This is the first time we have tasted this and we like it.
Blanched baby choy sum, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
Appetizing dinner for 2 people.
We finished the fried mackerel in chili sauce and have leftover sour plum sauce pork rib which we kept in the fridge for next day.

  4. Perhaps we'll have sardines tomorrow, our no-meat Friday. I saw a can in the pantry the other day, Marina - I think we've run out of Ayam. Oooo...I love wat tan hor!!! Hard to find here and anyway, I'm not going out. #staysafe #staywell #stayhome Sighhh!!!

    1. Wat tan hor is hubby's favourite. I find it too filling. I have not tried Marina brand.

  5. Looks almost like an Indian-style dinner, and the pineapple apparently adds sweetness. The plant has pretty yellow leaves

  10. Oh, so very sour pineapple when boiled will give a dish sweet taste instead of sour. Good to know this. That pork ribs plum gravy looks like tauchu bean paste gravy. That yellow plant looks like a yucca plant. What do you think?

    1. Yes, no need to discard the sour pineapple. Use them for cooking. I am not sure if it is a yucca plant. I suppose I will have to find out from the plant nursery.

  15. When i saw the Quaker oatmeal bowl, it got me to looking at your other plates, i'd never noticed that many of them are very decorative and pretty.
