Smoked Duck & Yam Bean For Dinner

This was Tuesday, 8th day of Chinese New Year. It was raining the whole of Monday night until the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Morning sky at 7:10am.
The rain has stopped and we had our morning walk. We walked a big round and ended up at one of the coffee shop for breakfast.
Fried rice vermicelli with prawns and egg.
This is the first time I ordered from this fried noodle stall.
Hubby ordered rolled chee cheong fun with yam bean filling. He added 2 pieces of fish cake. He found the fish cake too salty for his liking.
Morning sky at 8:16am.
We walked home after breakfast. The sky remained gloomy for the whole day.
~~~~~
Dinner for 2 people.
I dug out the above package from the freezer. It was a smoked duck bone-in leg. I can't even remember where I bought it from.
I steamed the smoked duck and chopped it into pieces before serving.
Shredded yam bean cooked with garlic, dried shrimp, shredded carrot and garlic. Seasoning: salt, oyster sauce, light sauce.
This was our dinner with brown rice porridge.
Some smoked duck is very salty but not this one.
Will buy this again.
For a soul is far too precious to be ransomed by mere earthly wealth.
There is not enough of it in all the earth to buy eternal life
for just one soul, to keep it out of hell.
Fish Curry & Jui Hu Char For Dinner
More eateries are opening up for dine-in. After the "wait and see" period, many will also be ready to open up for dine-in early next month. But for this particular morning, hubby went out to buy breakfast because I was bored with noodles and wanted to eat oat porridge for a change.
Hubby bought pork noodle and some stuffed items.
This is my oat porridge topped with almond slices, walnut chunks and dried cranberries.
All the other colours periwinkles have disappeared except for this white periwinkles.
~~~~~
Our lunch with breakfast food.
Fried egg and bacon with wholemeal bread for me.
2 half boiled eggs, bacon and bread for hubby.
Periwinkles are self-propagating plants.
~~~~~
It was my sister's birthday. Since there is no birthday gathering, I ordered 2 portions of fish curry and sent one over to my sister for her dinner.
I took out half from my own portion for dinner and kept the other half for next day. This is our favourite fish curry.
Home cooked "jui hu char" which is yam bean (sengkuang), carrots, dried shiitake mushrooms, and dried cuttlefish. I can eat a big plate of this without having any rice.
The following are sunset shots taken outside my house on the 1st Sunday of October.
Papaya Soup, Yam Bean With Cuttlefish & Assam Curry Fish
On the way home from morning walk, hubby stopped at the coffee shop to buy Chinese crullers from one of the stalls to take home for breakfast.
Chinese crullers (2 yau chow kuai + 1 ham chim peng)
Left over fried tom yam noodle, heated up.
2-in-1 black coffee.
Breakfast for 2 people.
~~~~~
In my garden
2 round black purplish eggplants.
~~~~~
Simple lunch - just eat whatever is available in the house.
What we usually eat for breakfast became our lunch.
Bread for dipping into half boiled eggs for hubby.
I prefer toast with peanut jam and apricot jam.
~~~~~
Dinner
I cooked a small pot of yam bean (sengkuang) with carrot, dried cuttlefish, and etc. This is aka jiu hu char in Hokkien. Gave 1 tub to neighbour.
Soup: Papaya, carrot, corn, red dates, gojiberries, and soft bone pork.
Gave 2 portions of soup for neighbours.
1 portion for our dinner.
Neighbour ordered assam curry fish for us.
Delicious and satisfying dinner with steamed rice for 2 people.
Ending this post with an evening sky shot @ 7:30pm.
No spectacular sunset, just clouds.

Otak-otak, Chicken Wings & Prawns+Pineapple Curry For Dinner

It is fun to have a combined meal with friends. We have both parties doing the cooking and contributing the food to the meal. In this way the work is reduced by half and we get to enjoy each other's cooking plus company. We had the following items for one of our early combined dinner at 4:30 pm.

Our friend ordered this Otak-otak (grilled fish cake). I love otak-otak and maybe one day I will try to make this.

Fried rice from the same friend. We each had a small portion of this fried rice.The same friend made Fried Chicken Wings with a Air-Fryer cooker.

~~~~~
The following items were from my kitchen.
Prawns and pineapple curry.
A simple Jicama (sengkuang), carrot & dried prawns dish without the dried cuttlefish which I thought I had in the fridge but couldn't find it.
Home made Herbal Jelly (Gui Ling Gao) for dessert.
Since we finished dinner early, we went to one of the shopping mall for window shopping and walking exercise. Lots of lighted colourful lanterns ahead of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (Moon Cake Festival) which falls on the 1st October, 2020.
My pink multi-layered petals hibiscus. The colour is a faded pink because it was taken at late afternoon.
Linking to Garden Affair.
Have a Blessed Sunday!
For you have a new life.
It was not passed on to you from your parents,
for the life they gave you will fade away.
This new one will last forever, for it comes from Christ,
God's ever-living Message to men.
And now, brothers, as I close this letter,
let me say this one more thing:
Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right.
Think about things that are pure and lovely,
and dwell on the fine, good things in others.
Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.
(Philippians 4:8, The Living Bible-TLB)
