One night just before I went to bed, a friend texted me to ask whether I want to buy fresh fish because she had surplus supply. After a few text messages to and fro, it was agreed that I will collect the fish from her house the next morning.
Morning sky at 7am.
Sorry about the lamp posts and power lines that got into my photo. Not easy to avoid them when we are trying to snap sky photos in a residential area.

After breakfast, I went to collect the fish from our friend's house. Initially, I intended to buy a grouper fish which weighed around 2 kg. Later I changed my mind and bought 2 groupers. The fishes were already scaled and cleaned and all I have to do is to cut them into fillets and packed them separately to be kept in the freezer.
That evening, I used 2 pieces of fish fillets to cook fish congee or fish rice porridge for dinner. I cut the fillets into smaller pieces, marinate them with some light soy sauce and cornflour and set aside. I boiled the rice porridge over low fire and when it was ready, I added in the marinated fish pieces. After a few minutes when the fish was cooked, I added salt to taste.
Garnished the porridge with young ginger strips, drizzled some sesame oil and a few dashes of white pepper powder on the porridge before serving.
I boiled 2 homemade salted duck eggs from a new batch.
I also blanched home grown sweet potato leaves and drizzled with garlic oil and oyster and soy sauce.
Our homecooked dinner for 2 people.
I wanted to taste the new sambal dried prawn from Penang which I ordered through a friend. Took out a few spoons to taste. This will come in very handy when I don't know what to cook. It is also good for making sandwiches.

ReplyDeleteWe need these power lines to supply the electricity to our homes.
DeleteSounds like a good meal. I like fresh fish.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gigi.
DeleteVery tasty fish. I like the firm meat of grouper fish. Delicious meal! The sambal dried Prawn would go very well with your congee. Did you put them into your porridge?
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't mix the sambal into the porridge. I prefer to eat them separately.
DeleteLas verduras siempre me gustan. Besos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa.
Delete...so many selections that are new to me.
ReplyDeleteThese are common food for us.
DeleteI have never had a duck egg. How does the taste compare to hen's eggs?
ReplyDeleteNot much difference. Duck egg is bigger than hen's egg. We seldom use duck eggs like we use hen's eggs. I prefer duck eggs salted.
DeleteThe skies are lovely even with the wires, they are hardly noticed. The fish sounds like a good purchase, already cleaned and ready.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mimi.
DeleteNice dish and the wires are always a problem when taking photos.
ReplyDeleteNow, I am used to having wires in my sky photos.
DeleteInteresting dish and a new one on me! Take care Diane
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane. Take care and stay safe.
DeleteFor me the words fish & porridge do not belonf together just saying
ReplyDeleteNot everyone loves fish porridge.
