Curry Noodle Breakfast & Chinese Cuisine Dinner With Friends

Yesterday morning (108th day MCO), we went out for our morning walk, stopped for a cup of coffee at our regular coffee shop, then walked back home. Upon reaching home, we drove out to town to meet up with friends for breakfast. Someone recommended this curry noodle stall, saying that the curry noodle is both tasty and cheap.

We located this stall in Ipoh new town and ordered 4 bowls of curry noodles. They have square wooden tables and long wooden benches, just nice for 4 people with social distancing.

A bowl of curry noodles with generous portion of bbq pork and roast pork costing less than RM5! This curry noodle is really cheap, looks good, and delicious. In Cantonese slang, I think it could be said as "peng, leng, cheng".

Dinner at Restoran Chuen Kah Fook, Falim for 6 people.

This is our first foodie group dinner gathering since MCO started in March.

Nyonya assam patin fish slices - sweet sourish appetizing dish.

Hebal chicken (half a chicken) with blended aromatic ginger (sa keong).

Blended aromatic Ginger (sa keong in Cantonese).

Stewed pumpkin and taro (yam) dish.

Green amaranth and century egg soup.

Total cost of dinner for 6 people = RM93.80

If all is well, we will be meeting up regularly from now on.

We passed by these free range chickens on one of our morning walks.

These days this is not a common sight in residential area.

Maybe, one of these days, I might fenced off a small area in my garden to rear some chickens. But first, have to convince my hubby to put up the fencing for me.

Reunion Dinner Chinese New Year Eve 2019

Happy Chinese New Year! Today is the 1st day of Chinese New Year 2019. Yesterday evening we had our reunion dinner. It was a simple home cooked dinner for a family of 4 people.

 I bought this Yee Sang (Chinese New Year toss salad) - small portion.

 Sweet sour fish fillet.

My son brought back a big Snapper fish which he caught on his fishing trip.

 Steamed chicken.

 Blanched baby kai lan with garlic oil, drizzled with oyster sauce and soy sauce.

Lotus root soup with pork rib, carrot, red dates and goji berries.

  I saw someone posting on Facebook about making an egg stand on its end. Out of fun and curiosity, I took an egg from the fridge and try it out on a table.  After a few tries, I was so surprised that the egg stood still without rolling over. This was very unusual. 

After a while, the egg started to sweat - due to change of temperature.

I left it on the table overnight to see if the egg rolls over. It was still standing when I checked on it this morning at about 6.30 am. It finally rolled over when I checked it again at about 8.00 am.

 Breaking of dawn on Chinese New Year eve. We went for our early morning walk as usual but the place was rather quiet minus the usual crowd.

The following picture is from the National Museum, KL.

1. The scent bottle on a chain is more than 200 years old. The bottle is decorated with fine gold filigree featuring a four-petaled flower motif.
2. Celepa - a gold tobacco box shaped in the form of a star. It has ten points like the petals of a flower. Was owned by a Sultan Zainal Abidin I of Trengganu (1725-1733).

Christmas Eve Dinner At Restoran Makanan Laut Piew, Ipoh.

M E R R Y     C H R I S T M A S

23rd December morning.

This tree was just a few metres from where I was seated. This is the only tree with bare branches while the others were covered with green leaves. I saw a bird hopping from branch to branch on this tree. I only have my smartphone camera and these are the best shots I could get.

Can you see the bird on the branch?

I dare not go too close for fear the bird might be scared off.

I think this is the partner of the other bird.

It was perched on top of the concrete poll.

23rd December evening

There is a restaurant which has been in business for more than 10 years in Taman Mas, Falim. That was what one of the servers told us and we only noticed it recently. On this particular evening, we were at this restaurant for the first time to try their cooking.

We ordered deep fried Black Pomfret topped with salted veggie in sweet sour sauce. We haven't eaten this dish for umpteen years. This dish was one of our mothers' home cooked dishes once upon a time. This is a very appetizing dish.

Stewed pork rib.

Stir fry sweet potato leaves with sambal belacan (spicy prawn paste). The leaves were very young and tender. I alone can finish this dish.

Dinner for 4 people inclusive of rice and plain water = MYR 54.20

24 December evening (Christmas Eve Dinner)

We enjoyed the dinner very much and that was when we decided to come back again the following evening for the Christmas eve dinner with family and friends.

 We ordered Butter Milk Deep Fried Mantis Shrimps.

 Curry Fish Head with assorted veggies.

 Sweet Sour Deep Fried Fish slices

 Deep Fried Chicken wings marinated with beancurd (nam yee)

 Steamed Egg 

Stir fry sweet potato leaves with fermented bean curd (fu yee)

Dinner for 10 people inclusive of rice and drinks = MYR 130

You can choose to sit in the air con or non air con place.
