Growing Cotton Plant & Other White Flowers In My Garden

One day, a friend brought me a plant that she has grown in a small pot for me.

This is the cotton plant that my friend gave me. 

When I received the plant, there were 3 green bolls.  I have not seen this plant before and I thought the green bolls were flower buds. From the internet, I found out that they are referred to as bolls and not buds or pods.

Then after about a week, the green bolls cracked open and revealed the white cotton inside. One by one, all 3 green pods cracked open and the white cotton exposed.

Cotton plants love full sun but it can be grown indoors too.

Cotton plants can easily grow from seeds.

I must remind myself not to over water this cotton plant.

According to my friend, cotton plants have flowers. I am looking forward to see the flowers.

Large yellow flowers will appear in 45 days from sowing. Flowers wither off and form bolls which crack open to form fluffy cotton in about 130-150 days from sowing.

This is the 2nd white orchid flower from this plant.

This white flowers can last for about 5 days.

My Spider Plant (Chlorophytum Comosum) Is Blooming!

It was about a year ago that I did a post on my Spider Plants in my garden. If you are interested, you can click here to read the post. The post was written in May, 2016.

Recently, I noticed that one of the plants had flowered. I was watering the plants and immediately, I stopped and took our my smartphone camera to take some snapshots of the flowers.

 The flowers are small and white in colour.

 The flowers may be small but they are very pretty.

 The close up photos are not very clear but on a closer look, it has 5 stamens with yellow tips.

 The flower has 6 white petals. 

This is the first time I got to see the flowers of my Spider Plants.

 Now I need to find a suitable place to hang up my Spider Plant pot so that I get to enjoy the pretty flowers.

Growing Spider Plants (Chlorophytum Comosum) in my garden.

I have 2 types of Spider Plants growing in my garden. Both plants started with plantlets obtained from my friends. Both are variegated plants. Its scientific name is Chlorophytum Comosum. Some of the common names are Spider Plants, Airplane Plant, Ribbon Plant, etc.

The leaves of this Spider Plant have green and white stripes.

 The white in the center and green on both sides. The leaves are long and narrow.

 Spider Plants are suitable for hanging pots. Plantlets will grow from the main plants and hang down. 

 Some of the plantlets will dry up after some time and need to be cut off.

 This is another type of Spider plant. I received this plantlet from a church friend.

This one has broader leaves than the previous Spider plant showed above. 

One day I noticed a shoot growing out from it.

This Spider Plant has green and yellow or white stripes on the leaves.

Spider Plants are very easy to grow and take care.

They grow well in well drained garden soil.

It is best kept from direct or full sunlight.

It is named Spider Plant because the plantlets look like spiders.

 This is the mother plant. Most of the yellow stripes have changed to white stripes.

 The yellow stripes can be seen on the plantlets.

Sometimes, the tips of the leaves will turn brown or black but will not harm the plants.

Some of the leaves have more yellow or white than the green.

I woke up this morning and found some leaves from the Croton plants blown to the ground. There was very strong wind and heavy rain last night.

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.
