Fried Noodle, Bak Kwa, Salad, Curry Puff & Home Cooked Dinner

This was 2nd day of Lunar New Year (CNY). Even though we woke up early, we didn't go for morning walk. We even had our breakfast late. Hubby went out to buy breakfast and I stayed home to make hot drinks.

Fried rice vermicelli from our friend's stall.
We shared this place of fried noodle.
~~~~~
Lunch: Bak kwa, tong sui and salad.
There were some sweet dried meat (bak kwa) in the fridge. I took out to bake in the oven.
This year I made 1 kg of sweet dried meat (bak kwa).
Chilled leftover red bean and longan sweet drink from the fridge.
I used the leftover yam bean strips and cucumber strips to make salad with roasted sesamed dressing.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner.
I fried this tail portion of the grouper fish. After frying the fish, I placed the fish on a plate and removed most of the oil, leaving a few spoonful in the wok. I then fried the ginger strips in the oil until golden brown and fragrant. Then I added some soy sauce before scooping up everything onto the fish.
Fermented bean curd (fu yue).
Hubby loves to add fu yue to his plain rice porridge.
I heat up the leftover pickled salted mustard green dish.
I boiled some plain rice porridge for hubby and hubby added the fu yue into the porridge.
I didn't want porridge, so I heat up a curry puff in the oven.
This was our home cooked dinner on the 2nd day of CNY.

Neon Tetra - Paracheirodon innesi (scientific name).
My friend's son (Joshua) shared his aquarium fish with me. These fishes are from the Amazon basin. They exist in large shoals and are one of the most popular aquarium pets as they are relatively easy to maintain. They are peaceful fishes. Good tank mates are other tetra species, Corydoras and Oto catfishes.

Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Treasure Pot With Noodles, & Red Beans With Longan Sweet Drink

For the eve of Lunar New Year, we had treasure pot or "poon choy" for dinner which was posted here if you want to see the post. Since the treasure pot was meant for 5 people, hubby and I only managed to take a third of it.

I woke up early in the morning on the first day of Lunar New Year. I took out the treasure pot from the fridge and added napa cabbage to the dish. Once the napa cabbage is cooked and soften, I off the fire. Then I cooked 2 bricks of dried noodle.
Treasure pot noodle or poon choy noodle for breakfast.
We managed to finished half of the amount from the pot and kept the remnant for lunch.
A hearty and filling breakfast on the 1st day of CNY, 2021.
I boiled red bean with longan sweet drink or tong sui for lunch. We each took a big bowl of tong sui and finished whatever was left of the treasure pot or poon choy.

Twisted or crooked green eggplant.
The first fruit from this plant in my garden before it was harvest.

Wisdom will save you from evil people,
from those whose words are twisted.
These men turn from the right way to walk down dark paths.
They take pleasure in doing wrong,
and they enjoy the twisted way of evil.
Their actions are crooked, and their ways are wrong.

Curry Ribs Wonton Noodle & Home Made Salted Mustard Green

This was Wednesday, 2 days before Lunar New Year. After morning walk, we stopped at one of our regular coffee shop for breakfast.

We ordered and shared a plate of wonton noodle with curry pork rib and minced pork dumplings (wonton). Then hubby bought a Chinese cruller or youtiao to eat with his coffee.
Papaya for pre-lunch.
My lunch: Took out 1 curry puff, warm up in the oven.
Lots of filling: a quarter hard boiled egg, chicken, and potato.
Hubby's lunch: Mamak rojak (pasembor) and iced unsweetened black coffee.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner.
There was a tub of home made pickled (salted) mustard green (hum choy) in my fridge. I almost forgot about it. I took half to cook with minced pork, tomatoes and chilies.
Fried 2 slices of grouper fish.
We had plain rice porridge with the fried fish and salted mustard green savoury dish. It was a very appetizing dinner. I kept half the salted mustard green in the fridge for the next day's dinner.
Salt is good for seasoning.
But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again?
You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves
and live in peace with each other.
Prawn Noodle For Breakfast & Prawn Curry For Dinner
This was Tuesday, 3 days before Lunar New Year. We started our morning walk at about 6:45am.
This shadow shot was the first shot with my smartphone that morning.
On our walk home, we passed by this Jasmine shrub in front of a house.
This Pinwheel Jasmine or Crepe Jasmine flowers do not have any fragrance.
~~~~~
Breakfast
We drove out to Yummy Food Garden buy breakfast. I was looking forward to having assam laksa for breakfast but when I reached, I was told they do not have assam laksa during lockdown, instead they have prawn noodle and shredded chicken noodle (kai si hor fun).
I ended up buying prawn noodle even though I have not tasted it before. I am glad because the prawn noodle was very tasty and is worth going back again.
Delicious and satisfying breakfast to start off the day.
~~~~~
Dinner
There was leftover curry from the previous day's dinner.
I added in some tofu puffs to the curry because we have finished all the prawns. I cooked 1 salted duck egg and steamed some white rice.
Simple home cooked dinner for 2. Salted egg goes well with curry.
When it goes well for good people, the whole town cheers;
when it goes badly for bad people, the town celebrates.
Steamed Buns, Twisted Green Eggplant, Prawn Curry
This was on a Monday, the same week as the Lunar New Year. We didn't go walking on this particular morning, so we didn't pass by our friend's stall. When she didn't see us, she called to ask hubby to collect our breakfast from her. She bought steamed buns and she also bought our share for us.
2 steamed buns (hubby has eaten one earlier) and left one for me. Our friend also gave us a packet of crispy crabstick snack that she fried.
My breakfast: 1 steamed bun with pork filling and hot Nescafe.
~~~~~
Simple lunch
This pack of biscuits (tau sar pheah) was on my table. I was curious to taste the biscuits.
There were 5 pieces, I ate 2 pieces for my lunch.
Hubby had been in the hot sun trimming the plants in front of our house. He requested for herbal tea, so I placed a herbal teabag to steep in hot water for him.
That evening I harvested the first green eggplant from the garden. This eggplant turned out twisted, hopefully the rest will turned out straight. This one and only plant was given to me by a friend.
~~~~~
One dish dinner.
I bought this curry fish paste to try. Instead of using fish, I used prawns.
This curry consists of prawns, cabbage, home grown long beans and 1 green brinjal.
Our one dish dinner: prawn and vegetables curry with steamed rice.
I saw this motorcycle displayed in a Malacca hotel where we stopped to have lunch.
Pink and white hibiscus by the roadside. This snapshot was taken on one of our morning walk.
Show me the path where I should go, O Lord;
point out the right road for me to walk.
Lead me; teach me;
for you are the God who gives me salvation.
I have no hope except in you.
Herbal Duck Soup Noodle, Bak Kwa & Rice Porridge
This was one Sunday before the Lunar New Year. After finishing our morning walk, we took our car to buy take-away breakfast. We haven't been to this shop for a very long time probably because it is not on our regular route.
Sunrise at 7:40am
This is the shop: Restoran Sin Kooi Yuen.
The lady boss and her sister used to help her mother with the noodle shop in the Buntong wet market before she started her own shop here at shop #17, Jalan Raja Perempuan Mazwin, Taman Tinggi, Ipoh.
2 sets of wonton noodle - dry version.
We brought along our stainless steel tiffin carrier to takeaway the food.
We didn't want any wonton (dumplings) because we wanted herbal duck soup.
2 sets of wonton noodle with herbal duck soup and home made hot coffee.
~~~~~
Later in the morning, I made a small portion of bbq dried pork (bak kwa) for home consumption. The minced pork was pre-marinated overnight in the fridge.
Before I made the bak kwa, I boiled tapioca sweet drink or tong sui.
When I gave the tapioca sweet drink to my friend and neighbour, my neighbour gave me a papaya in return. My neighbour has become my regular supplier of fresh papaya.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner on a warm evening.
The weather is hot so I decided to boil rice porridge with roast pork bones and peanuts.
Garnishing for the porridge: Ginger strips and chopped home grown spring onion.
Sauteed home grown long beans with garlic and salt.
Leftover food: Taro with mushroom and dried prawns.
We were able to finish everything, including the leftover food.
Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him to help you do it, and he will.
