Constructing A New Non-Slip Concrete Pavement

Since the fixing of our dining room roof, we had one more project to be carried out. We had a pavement in front of our gate that was lined with 2 rows of floor tiles and the rest was cemented. After years of wear and tear, the tiles tend to be slippery whether it rained or not.

Hubby and elder son have slipped and fell because of the slippery pavement and others had near accident but thank God, didn't. Most of our friends are elderlies, so one can imagine the seriousness if one would to fall and hurt himself or herself.

Hubby arranged the date for the construction to be carried to coincide with the days that I will be in hospital for the chemo treatment because it was going to be very dusty and noisy. I was spared the noise and dust and the final concreting work was done while I was home from hospital. Below are some of the photos taken of the construction work by hubby.

Sunrise shot at 7:30am.
I can't remember where this photo was taken.
Hacking and breaking up the old concrete and tiles.

Levelling of the ground level.
Laying of reinforcement for the pavement to prevent cracks.
Ready for concreting.
We ordered pre-mixed concrete for the pavement.
At last, the finished new non-slip concrete pavement project.

For the 1st night stay, I had a roommate who later went for her operation. I slept alone for the 2nd and 3rd night before I was discharged from hospital.

If you want favor with both God and man,
and a reputation for good judgment and common sense,
then trust the Lord completely; don't ever trust yourself.
In everything you do, put God first,
and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.

2nd Chemo Was Postponed 5 Days

2 weeks after my 1st chemo, I was admitted to the hospital on the 3rd May for the 2nd chemo. Unfortunately, my blood result was not good and the doctor suspected that there might be a blockage in my liver. I was asked to fast and an ultrasound was done on my liver at about 2:40pm that day. A blood test was done again and the result turned out better than the previous one. After the ultrasound, it was too late to start the chemo drip and the next day was a public holiday and followed by the weekend. My chemo date was then postponed and rescheduled for the 8th May (Monday). I was then discharged and came home to rest.

I was re-admitted to the hospital on the 8th May (Monday) for the 2nd chemo treatment. The 2 bedded rooms were fully occupied and I was given a 4 bedded room. When at the hospital, I usually don't sleep well and will wake up at regular intervals to go to the washroom or to make myself a cup of hot drink.

This was the sunrise I witnessed from my hospital bed on the 9th May morning. My bed happened to be next to the window.
I am glad that I have something to look out to whenever I am not resting on bed or playing games on my phone.
This was 4:40am in the morning on the 10th May. I couldn't sleep, so I got up to look out the window and look some snapshots.
I was supposed to be discharged on 10th May night but due to delayed start of chemo drip, I was only discharged from hospital on the 11th May (the 4th day). I spent an extra night in hospital. When I got home, I managed to catch up on my sleep the next few days and nights. My next or 3rd chemo treatment is scheduled for 22nd May, 2023.

Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul.
They bring joy to my sorrowing heart and delight me.
How proud I am to bear your name, O Lord.

Son and Friends Had A Great Fishing Trip

On Tuesday, 2nd May, I went to hospital for my pre-chemo blood test. The next day, 3rd May, I was admitted to the hospital for my 2nd cycle chemo using the new chemo drug. The doctors were not happy with the result of the pre-chemo blood test and I was asked to fast to prepare for an ultrasound to be done to check whether there is any blockage in my liver. By 3pm the ultrasound was done and it was a relief to be told that there is no blockage in my liver.

By then I was told that it was too late to start the chemo treatment. The next day (Thursday) was a public holiday and it is not advisable to start chemo treatment on a Friday because there will be no doctors on duty on Saturday and Sunday. So I was told that I could be discharged and re-admit to the hospital on Monday.

Sometime last month, younger son and friends went for a fishing trip. They rented a fishing boat and below are some of the photos from their fishing trip and their plentiful catch.

These are the smaller fishes.
Younger son and friend bought this ice box when they were back in Ipoh last month.
A long fish.
Looks like they had a great catch this round.
Both caught the same type of fish.
Plenty of fishes to last for a long time.
Sometimes, they don't have a good catch but this round, the catch is good.
Both of my sons love fishing.
Then he said, "Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat,
and you'll get some!" So they did,
and they couldn't haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.

1st Cycle Of New Chemo Drug

Two days after our dining room roof was blown off, I was admitted to the hospital for my chemo treatment. This was supposed to be the 3rd chemo cycle but this round the doctors decided to change to new chemo drugs. For this new chemo treatment, I will have to go through 9 cycles, once in every 2 weeks. I will be on chemo drip continuously for about 48 hours, so I will have to be warded in the hospital for 3 days and 2 nights.

Early morning sky at 6:45am.
For the past 2 weeks and more, the first half of the days were hot and sunny. By 3 to 4 pm, the sky will go dark. Then there will be strong wind and heavy downpour, scary thunderstorm. When I was admitted into the hospital for my 1st of 9 cycles chemo treatment, our roof was not fixed yet. It was a stressful whole week for us until the roof was fixed and our dining room was fully covered.
A plant that looks like a strawberry plant.
My stay in the hospital for my chemo treatment was pleasant and comfortable. I had to be admitted by 7am on the 1st day and by the time the chemo drip was over, I was discharged from hospital about 11pm plus, reached home and by the time I took my bath and went to bed was about 2am plus. I slept most of the next morning because I was feeling tired. By afternoon, I was feeling good and active. That was 5 days after the roof was blown off and our roof was not covered yet. Every time it rains, we couldn't sleep until the rain stops because hubby has to keep watch.

After 8 stressful days and nights, we breathed a sigh of relief when the roof was finally fixed. We can start to shift back our dining furniture back to the dining room. There was much cleaning to do for hubby and I helped in small ways that I can managed.

New Roofing Fixed And Internet Service Restored

It is good to be back again. What a relief to have a new roof fixed over our dining room and the internet cable restored again. Those were stressful and sleepless 10 whole days for me.

The weather has been hot for the past few weeks and there was bad haze in most major towns and cities. 17th April afternoon, I took my bath after I had lunch and was resting in the living room. The sky started to darken and rain started to fall. I was thinking to myself that the rain will wash away some of the haze and the weather will be cooler. But then, the wind started to get very strong and heavy rain was pouring. One of our neighbours mentioned that the wind was like crazy, coming from many directions. A few minutes later, there was a loud noise which I couldn't describe and we found out that our dining room roof was totally blown off. The dining room was in a total mess with fallen broken bricks and small pieces of concrete and dirt! We had to wait for the rain to stop before we can try to clean up the mess as best as we could.

#1
Our dining room used to be an air well. We had a roof fixed over it and turned it into our dining room. This photo shows the outside of the air well. When the roof was blown off, some of the broken bricks fell into our dining hall. I am thankful I was sitting at the dining table at that time when the roof was blown off.
#2
We have to move everything away from the dining room. Those days when we don't have a roof over the dining room, the mornings were sunny but the afternoon was dark, with strong wind and heavy rain. We had to be on the standby to sweep the rain water from entering other rooms in the house.
#3
There was a delay in getting the right contractor with the right price which we and our neighbours could agree upon because our roof is joined in one piece and we shared the cost for fixing the roof. The concreting work to repair the missing bricks and concrete for both houses costs RM1k.
#4
This is the row of houses behind our house. Our blown off roof landed on their roofs and damaged their roofs. That 17th evening when the storm happened, the local authorities came to visit some of the victims of the storm. We were told to make individual reports and each household affected was paid RM200. They also offer to fix our roofs for free. But hubby and our neighbour prefer to get our own contractors to fix a more stronger and permanent one.
#5
Finally, after waiting for more than a week, the workers started their work on our roof. The concreting work took 3 days. The fixing of the roof took about 4 days and hubby was glad that they did a good job. The roof job costs RM8k for both houses. So, in total, hubby paid RM5k to fix the roof.

When the roof was blown off, it must have cut off or snap our internet line. The cost for a new cable costs RM120. We have to wait for the roof to be completed before installing the internet cable. Finally after 10 whole days, we get back our internet service.
#6
The days while the work was going on, it rained every afternoon. Thinking back, we have never had such experience as the one we experienced because of the storm.
#7
The day when they finally covered up our dining room, we were really relieved. I can sleep without worrying about rain pouring down our dining room.
#8
While work was going, we closed the kitchen because it was not convenient to cook.
#9
This is our new ceiling for our dining room.
#10
Looks so much cleaner, nicer and definitely much cooler too.

Our new roof with almost 90% finished. With the long weekend holidays, the workers will return to touch up the remaining unfinished work tomorrow (Tuesday, 2nd May).

Looking back, no matter how difficult and challenging it was, God has given us strength to pull through and we came out victorious. All glory to God!

He is the strength of my heart; he is mine forever!
