Spicy Mustard Green & Stewed Pork Leg (1st Day EMCO Perak)

This was Saturday, 1st day Ipoh started EMCO. So, no morning walk for the time being.

Morning sky at 7:20am.
Morning sky at 7:23am.
~~~~~
Breakfast.
We received 6 steamed buns from our neighbour the day before. I took out 2 buns (with kaya filling) to steam for breakfast.
We also had toast with kaya for hubby and peanut butter for me.
I bought the smallest bottle.
I prefer super chunk peanut butter to the smooth spread.
We had black coffee.
~~~~~
Lunch
We had leftover spicy mustard green from the previous day's dinner.
Just nice for 2 bowls. We ate this for lunch.
~~~~~
Dinner.
Our neighbour bought 2 portions of stewed pork leg and gave 1 portion to us. I heated up the stewed pork leg and added in the remaining sweet pea and fresh mushroom.
Together with the stewed pork leg, chopped garlic and cut chilies were packed together. Hubby added dark sauce to the garlic.
I prefer the cut chilies in soy sauce.
Blanched home grown okras and eggplants and topped with spicy chili dried prawns.
Dinner on a rainy evening.
In bygone days he permitted the nations to go their own ways,
but he never left himself without a witness;
there were always his reminders - the kind things he did such as
sending you rain and good crops and giving you food and gladness.
Fish Noodle With Wine & Spicy Mustard Green (Choy Keok)
Latest update: National wide for Malaysia effective from 1st to 14th June, 2021. I don't know whether it will be the same as the first MCO 1.0 imposed last year. We will have to wait for the authority to fine tune the sop.
Okay, back to my post. This was last Wednesday. We continued our morning walk as usual but we made sure we were early when there is hardly anyone on the streets.
Morning sky with the sun almost hidden behind the thick cottony clouds. I don't know if there is special name for this cloud.
~~~~~
For breakfast, hubby rode out on his motorcycle to buy takeaway breakfast from our regular coffee shop.
Our favourite fish noodle consisting of fish meat, salted vegetable (hum choy), napa cabbage, tomato, ginger strips, fish cake, rice vermicelli and cooking wine.
1 portion of fish noodle divided into 2 bowls.
4 pieces of side order (stuffed items) and black coffee.
~~~~~
About 10am plus, hubby and I went out to settle our banking and errands because we were anticipating another movement control order (MCO 3.0). I prefer to get things done without burdening my mind with undone things during MCO. Hubby was in the car waiting for me while I was in the bank and someone passing by pointed to our car's front tire (his side). He took a look and saw that the tire was flat! When I came out from the bank, hubby was busy changing tires.
A worker attending to my old faithful Proton Wira at the tire shop.
After the punctured tire was replaced by the spare tire, we drove to the nearest tire shop. They checked and found a nail in the tire. It was a hot and sweaty day and we postponed the rest of the errand to the next morning. We drove straight home to take a rest and a good bath.
~~~~~
What we had for dinner.
I haven't cooked spicy mustard green (choy keok) for a long time. After reading my friend's post on her "choy keok", I was drooling and I went out to get all the ingredients ready on hand. I couldn't get roasted pork leg, so I bought roast pork bones with lots of meat on it.
All in 1 pot.
Main ingredients used: Roast pork bones with meat, both fresh and salted mustard green (kai choy and hum choy), dried chilies, garlic and onions, tomatoes, tamarind slices, and etc.
Hubby and I had only this dish (2 bowls each) for dinner without any rice.
This was the leftover kept for next day minus 1 big portion for our neighbour and what we had for dinner.
~~~~~
Snapshots from our morning walk.
Captain Rooster.
It looks like he is the head of the flock.
He seems to be the biggest and oldest rooster among the other roosters
Wishing everyone a happy weekend!
Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Salted Chicken & Salad For Dinner
On this Tuesday morning, we got back in time to catch this lovely sunrise. I took these snapshots outside my house the moment we reached home.
Sunrise at 7:15am
Sunrise and a lone bird on the power line.
Time to sweep the porch area and water my plants.
A pink hibiscus and flower buds by the roadside in front of somebody's house.
~~~~~
After reaching home, hubby went out on his motorcycle to buy breakfast.
He bought fried rice vermicelli with pork slices and prawns (prawns hidden underneath the noodle). I took a few mouthful of this noodle.
Leftover sambal sardine.
Sambal sardine on cream crackers for me.
This is my simple and yummy kind of breakfast.
A close up of the pink hibiscus we passed by on our walk home.
~~~~~
Dinner
My neighbour gifted us a salted chicken for our dinner.
To heat up, I steamed the chicken inside its wrappers.
Cucumber and tomatoes.
Boiled 2 medium sized potato.
1 big onion.
Roasted Sesame Salad Dressing for the salad.
I couldn't find Kewpie roasted sesame dressing in Billion Mart, so I bought the above Hellmann brand to try. A product of Philippians.
I didn't cook any rice. The above was more than enough for both of us. We kept half the salad ingredient in the fridge for next day.
Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent,
and they will receive an inheritance that lasts forever.
They will not be disgraced in hard times;
even in famine they will have more than enough.
Fried Noodle, Chicken Varuval & Fried Chicken For Dinner
Lately, I have not been spending much time in the garden. One reason is that I do not have the mood for gardening, and another is that the weather is very warm. I just do the watering and harvesting whatever can be harvested. Due to the neglect, the leaves of the eggplants have been seriously infected with pest. The only thing I did was to remove those leaves that were infested. While watering the plants, I noticed that the chives are flowering again.
The chives buds can be harvested and they are good for stir fries. The seeds can be collected to grow more chives but I already have 4 pots of chives which is more than enough for our consumption.
It is good to slow down and take time to enjoy the pretty tiny chive flowers.
~~~~~
Breakfast
Received a glutinous rice dumpling (bak chang) from a friend. Hubby and I shared the dumpling. Hubby had a piece of bread with coconut jam (kaya) and I had a piece of bread with sambal sardine.
A close up shot of this pretty Cup of Gold flower.
~~~~~
In this warm weather, my kitchen is like a sauna.
A good excuse not to cook dinner, so we had take-away dinner.
Fried rice vermicelli with sambal (Indian style).
We love this chicken varuval, bought from the same Indian stall.
We also bought a piece of fried chicken from the next stall.
Dinner for 2 people.
Evening sky at 7:10pm.
Looked very quiet outside.
Most families will be having their dinner at this time.
Lord, when doubts fill my mind, when my heart is in turmoil,
quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer.
Yong Tau Foo & Stewed Fish With Preserved Black Bean
This was the Sunday before Ipoh came under EMCO.
Morning sky at 6:50am. Another gloomy day.
~~~~~
Breakfast at home.
I made dry tossed noodle with dried noodle.
Spicy chili dried shrimp as condiment for the noodle.
Spicy chili dried shrimp from MKF Food Enterprise, Teluk Intan, Perak.
I bought it for RM7.00 from one of the shops in my area.
Yong Tau Foo from our neighbour given to us the previous evening which I kept in the fridge. To heat up, I lightly fried them in a non stick pan.
2-in-1 black coffee.
Jackfruit bought from the roadside stall on our morning walk.
~~~~~
Dinner
Stewed grouper fish with ginger, preserved black bean, and etc.
My neighbour ordered for their dinner and ordered 1 set for us too.
I cooked napa cabbage and carrot with garlic and salt.
Delicious dinner with steamed rice.
My Cleome or Spider plant has branched into 4 branches and they are blooming at the same time.
Take care to live in me, and let me live in you.
For a branch can't produce fruit when severed from the vine.
Nor can you be fruitful apart from me.
Yes, I am the Vine; you are the branches.
Whoever lives in me and I in him
shall produce a large crop of fruit.
For apart from me you can't do a thing.
