Coffee With Butter & Breakfast In Pusing

When I was a little girl, my father used to take me along for his regular cup of coffee. He will place me on the back seat and I will hug him around his waist, making sure my little feet will not get caught in the back wheel as he cycled to the coffee shop. At the coffee shop, he will then lift me up onto the chair next to him. He will pour some of the hot coffee from his cup onto the saucer to cool and passed it to me.

What is so special about the coffee? That hot coffee was served with a piece of butter in it. That was many years ago and I have totally forgotten about the coffee with butter until recently. Someone shared a video about his foodie outing in Pusing and mentioned the coffee with butter. Hubby and our friends were interested and off we went to Pusing for breakfast on the last Thursday of April which happened to be a public holiday. This was before the implementation of MCO 3.0, nationwide lockdown.

We managed to find this Loong Foo Kopitiam, located at Jalan Keretapi Lama, Pusing. We were seated at a table for 4 people. 1 kopi-o ice and 1 kopi-o kosong (unsweetened) for the ladies.
2 hot coffee with butter for the men.
I took a few sips and it was really good getting the taste of butter in it. This coffee with butter is best enjoyed when the coffee is still hot.
Our lady friend ordered a bowl of curry noodle with some stuffed items.
I cannot resist assam laksa, so I ended up with a bowl plus some stuffed items.
Beef brisket with daikon soup noodle for the 2 men.
After breakfast, we took the back lane to the Pusing wet market.
We stopped to buy our favourite taro or yam from a roadside stall.
Pillow shaped glutinous rice dumpling with wrapping removed.
We also bought the above glutinous rice dumpling, wrapped in the shape of a pillow from a roadside stall.
After steaming the rice dumpling to heat it up, the leaves wrapping was removed to reveal the inside of the dumpling. It was packed with ingredients. Hubby and I shared this dumpling plus soup for lunch.
I took out the leftover chicken herbal soup from the fridge to heat up. One bowl for hubby and one bowl for me. This heavy lunch lasted me until past dinner.
Friends came over to have dinner at the nearby food court. Hubby ordered the above, meatballs and garlic bread for his dinner. No dinner for me because I was still full from having a bigger portion of the glutinous rice dumpling. That showed that my digestion has slowed down.
I took a snapshot of this antique kid tricycle on one of our visit to Concubine Lane.
My new Coleus plants are doing well in my garden and I was able to share some cuttings with friends.

Our earthly fathers trained us for a few brief years,
doing the best for us that they knew how,
but God's correction is always right and for our best good,
that we may share his holiness.

  3. Coffee with butter sounds decadent but so good!

I'd have picked assam laksa too, though the cube of pig's blood in the curry does make it look very authentic.

    1. Sorry Stacy, it is not pig's blood in the curry. It was a piece of stuffed purple eggplant that looked like pig's blood.

  5. What is that sauce on top of the meatballs? Coffee with butter sounds yummy, I have not tried it before, but won't it be kind of oily with butter?

    1. I think it is mushroom sauce. Have to drink the coffee with butter while it is still hot. Not good once it is cooled.

  16. I've not heard of butter in coffee. Not even when I lived in England for 2 years. I've been making alot of soup lately. Your coleus plant is pretty. My geranium plant came back this spring. One I was given last year is starting to bloom. I finally put it in a small red pot. The succulent plant in it died cuz it was where it got too much rain. Nice story about coffee with your dad. Have a good day🌹🐰🌺🙏

  17. You must be very young then to be able to fit at the back metal seat of the bicycle. Butter in coffee, we have it here in kl as bullet proof coffee but the butter is melted into the coffee before serving the coffee not like yours where the butter is still in a chunk. When the coffee has all been drunk, are there still any unmelted butter left in the cup?

    1. The coffee was very good when it was hot but it doesn't taste good when the coffee is no longer hot. Yes, the butter was not fully melted.

  23. Such warm memories that you have of your father taking you out for a cuppa! I remembered my grandfather telling me about how his father used to put ghee in his coffee. I thought it was so strange! I have heard of bulletproof coffee which is coffee blended with butter.
