These Purple Globe Amaranth plants were very common during my childhood years in the village. These days we seldom get to see these plants growing in house gardens. Other names for Globe Amaranth are Globe Flower, Gnome Purple Globe Amaranth, and Gomphrena globosa.
On our previous trips to Fraser's Hill, we saw many of these plants growing in the garden. We collected some seeds to sow in our garden.
The seeds I sowed didn't sprout but my friend was successful in hers. So she blessed me with some seedlings.
The first tiny globe appeared!
This seed-grown plant is a hardy plant and doesn't need much care.
The flower is round and purple. It is a bushy plant with everlasting papery flowers.
The plant can grow to a few feet tall.
Purple is the most common colour. There are also pink, white, etc.
These globe flowers can be dried to make everlasting flowers bouquet.
I placed the plant where it can get a half day sun.
It can be grown in any type of soil.
Can you see the traces of white in the midst of purple?
These flowers can be dried and can be added to potpourri.
I am now growing a new batch of Purple Globe Amaranth from the seeds collected from this plant and I am looking forward to more globe flowers in my garden.
