Lunch At Rajes Restaurant, Ipoh

Today is the last day of year 2020.

As we usher in the new year, here is wishing all my blogging friends and readers,

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021!

Last Sunday, we started off with a free breakfast. I received an early morning call informing us that breakfast was waiting for us at our regular coffee shop. After we have had our walk, we went to enjoy our breakfast.

Our friend bought us each a packet of steamed glutinous rice with diced pork. And she also bought some Chinese donuts for us.

First time having lunch at Rajes Restaurant at Jalan Tun Perak, Conally Road, Ipoh. A friend sent through Whatsapp some images of delicious looking food served in a restaurant. According to her hubby who has eaten there, the food is good. So, after a few days, hubby and I went there for lunch.

The following are pictures are some of the cooked food on the counter top. There are so many delicious choices to choose from. So, let me and my camera feast on the food first before I decide on what to order.
Fried fish and chicken on trays lined with banana leaves.
Seafood curries - squid and crab curries.
Clay pot chicken curry @ RM12.
Mutton and chicken curries.
Different types of mutton curries.
Different types of curries, sambal and cutlets.
This is one of my favourite - chicken varuval.
Finally, we order white rice, chicken varuval, mutton kurma and cabbage to share. For drinks, we ordered a glass of iced lime juice and a glass of plain water. Total cost of lunch came to about RM20 plus.
~~~~~
No cooking for dinner because we were still feeling full from the lunch.
So, we had a late dinner with boiled sweet potato in sugar water (tong sui) which I boiled earlier in the morning.
And ate some of the above cheese bread given by our neighbour.
If you love your neighbor as much as you love yourself
you will not want to harm or cheat him, or kill him or steal from him.
And you won't sin with his wife or want what is his,
or do anything else the Ten Commandments say is wrong.
All ten are wrapped up in this one,
to love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Rock Village And Something Old & Useful.
One morning, a friend called me to ask where was I? I replied that I was in my garden. Then she told me that she was on the way to my house with another friend. I then hurriedly stopped my gardening and rushed to take my bath.
When they reached my house, I hopped into the car and we were taken for a car ride and later for brunch. Surprisingly, driver drove through this part of the village near my area which I have not been to. I was told that some people referred to this village as the "Rock Village" in Cantonese.  To prove it, she pointed out these rocks to us.
 There are big rocks beside the narrow road.
Rocks in front of the villages houses.
 Trees growing in between the rocks.
 Banana plants growing in between the rocks.
 Rocks on both sides of the narrow road.
Rocks on both sides of the narrow road.
Today I am joining the Tuesday Treasure meme.
 My late mother in law left behind her sewing machine. Even though it is an old sewing machine, it is still working very well. My hubby replaced the old wooden cabinet with a new one. It can only sew straight stitches and it works with a foot pedal. It is a "Singer" brand sewing machine.
She sews for the poor and generously helps those in need.
She has no fear of winter for her household,
for she has made warm clothes for all of them.
She also upholsters with finest tapestry;
her own clothing is beautifully made -
a purple gown of pure linen.
A Visit To Our Local Clinic.
Few months ago, I accompanied my hubby to the local government clinic near our area to seek treatment for his chronic cough. There were days when he hardly cough but once his throat started to get itchy, he will cough non stop.
 Reached the clinic just before 8 am.
 Hubby went in to get his queue number.
I took the opportunity to walk around and outside the clinic.
The clinic is built in a resident area for the convenience of the local residents.
 Waiting area for the queue number to be called.
There is also a mini mart next to the waiting area.
 Hubby's number was called and he was given room #7 to see the doctor.
 There were quite a number of patients before him, so hubby has to wait awhile.
A blood pressure gauge for the public to monitor their own BP.
Elevators 1 & 2.
Patients are to give doctor's prescription to the person at the pharmacy counter.
Wait till the patient's name is called to collect the medication.
Sometimes there is not enough of parking spaces for the public and they will have to park outside the clinic's compound.
I left hubby and took a walk outside the clinic.
I didn't walk far, just outside the compound of the clinic.
Opposite the clinic is a small field and residential houses.
Saw this tree with lots of small green fruits hanging from its branches.
I don't know what fruits are these, whether they are edible or not.
This is a very fruitful tree.
 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,
while every branch that does bear fruit
He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
Enjoying Indian Breakfast @ Buntong Village, Ipoh
On Monday morning, my friends and I had Indian breakfast at Buntong Village. It has been a long time since we last had Indian breakfast. The place that we had our breakfast is a small canteen just outside the fence of Sekolah Kebangsaan Guru Kalgidhar (Guru Kalgidhar Primary School), next to the Buntong Village Police Station, Jalan Sungai Pari.
We all are to meet at my house at 9 am. When everyone has arrived, we got into 2 cars and reached the canteen at about 9.30 am. I have not been there for a long time. The last time was a few years ago, I came with my ex-colleagues. We used to sit at the table placed by the roadside. The canteen looks so much neater and cleaner now.
Mrs S who is one of our friend, is a regular customer of this place, showed us the way where we can sit down comfortably to have our breakfast. There were six of us, so we got ourselves a big table, shaded with a big parasol to keep off rain or dried leaves and twigs from the big shady trees. At first it was quite comfortable, shady and with natural breeze but after I started drinking my hot black coffee, I started to sweat.
This place also serves as a canteen to the school. While we were waiting for our food, the school bell rang for recess. The food for the school children were placed on the other side of the fence.
This is one of the food items being sold there. I do not know the name of this food and I have not tasted ithis before.
These are Idli, to be eaten with curry gravy. I have tasted this before.
These are Wada or Vade. It is savoury and can be eaten by itself or with curry gravy. This I like especially when it is still hot or warm. I usually eat this by itself or with nice coconut or tomato chutney.
The ones at the back is Appam. It can be eaten by itself, or with coconut milk or with curry gravy. I think the piece which was over darkened was rejected. The ones toward the front is Thosai. This is usually eaten with curry gravy. Besides the above food, the canteen also sells fried noodles and other items, etc. Below were our orders for 6 people.
I do not know what these are called. They are 8 little fried balls. I think I ate one but I can't remember how it tasted like.
These are the different curry gravy. Our favourite is the sambal sardine gravy on the top left. On the top right is another tasty curry gravy. On the bottom left is the coconut chutney gravy and bottom right is the parapu gravy.
A piece of Thosai for our youngest friend. She said it was really tasty.
1 piece of Appam each, Total 5 appam. Appam is sweet, can be eaten by itself or with curry gravy. My friends are all such small eaters. 1 Appam is enough for them but not for me.
After eating 1 piece of appam, I felt like I have not eaten at all. So I ordered 1 piece of wada or vade. This was still warm, slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This can be eaten on its own or with curry gravy.
I ate this with all my favourite curry gravy, specially with the sambal sardine gravy. After I ate this, at least I felt a little bit satisfied for the time being. Our drinks - 3 black coffee, 2 hot tea with milk, 1 iced tea with milk and 6 wada/vade packed for take away. Total breakfast costs MYR 18 for 6 people.
The LORD will guide you always;
He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
