Rice Noodle (Lai Fun), Fried Tom Yam Rice & Nai Pak Choy

 We woke up to a foggy morning after a night of heavy downpour.

7:22am.

Kledang Hill partially covered with fog.

On the reverse side, no sign of sunrise.

Gloomy morning at 8:30am.

We drove out to town for breakfast at Jalan Centrepoint 2, Taman Hoover, Ipoh.

We ordered 2 bowls of rice noodle soup (loh shu fun), served with beansprouts, spring onion and sesame seeds.

Fried stuffs to go with the noodle.

Fried fish balls and fish paste in soup.

Breakfast for 2 on a cool morning.

Back home in my garden: Baby figs.

Harvested the above nai pak choy for dinner.

Plain blanched nai pak choy with home grown raw tomato.

Home made: Fried tom yam rice with tom yam paste, onions and dried shrimp.

Simple and satisfying dinner for 2.

Kopisan Lai Fun In Gopeng

We woke up early on a Tuesday morning. We started our morning walk early and finished early.

It was a nice day and since we didn't have much to do, hubby decided to drive to Gopeng (hubby's hometown) for breakfast. We haven't been to Gopeng for a long time. When in Gopeng, we usually go for "lai fun" for breakfast in Kopisan village. "Kopisan" in Cantonese means coffee hill.

Kopi = coffee, san = hill or mountain.

Part of the mural was shaded by shadow, part with the sunlight on it.

The noodle shop is opposite this wall mural.

Here, customers have to pick whatever ingredients we want and then queue to pay at the payment counter. I did the ordering and paying, and hubby went to get a table and order drink. Surprisingly, at 8:30am, there weren't many customers.

Lai fun (rice noodle) with fish paste and pig's head skin for hubby. (Sorry, Pig's head skin may sound gross to some of you.)

Plain "lai fun" (rice noodle) in clear soup with fish paste for me.

I picked some fried stuff consisting of fried meatballs, fried stuffed bean curd skin and 3 pieces of special fried items which is hubby's favourite.

I was told that the ingredients in these special fried item consist of fried anchovies, crispy fried lard, and etc. etc.

No wonder there weren't many customers eating there. We understand the increase in price but we realized that the quality of the soup has dropped. After breakfast, we drove around to see if there is any new changes.

Some of the older village houses have been torn down and rebuilt like this one here. More of these new houses are replacing the older houses.

Next, we drove to Gopeng town to look see, look see.

Then we saw this stall here.

Oh! It is a durian stall.

Most of Gopeng's durians are from the nearby hills. I love hill durians especially those brought down by the natives. Even though we just had breakfast, we stopped to buy one durian and ate it there and then. It was selling at RM10 per kilo and the durian we bought was RM15. Feeling satisfied, we drove back to Ipoh.

Rice Noodle or Kopisan Lai Fun For Breakfast

This particular day started with a lovely morning.

It has been a while since we last ate Kopisan Lai Fun  or white noodle, so we drove out to Jalan Centrepoint 2, Taman Hoover, Ipoh.

These are our favourite deep fried items.

These are fish balls, stuffed tofu and fish cakes.

Plain rice noodle or lai fun in clear soup with beansprout and toasted sesame seeds.

This is a must have chili sauce as dipping sauce.

A satisfying breakfast for 2 people.

The following photos were from one of our visits to the Antong Coffee Mill in Taiping before the pandemic.

This is all done in the old traditional ways, not like those using modern machinery and everything looking spick and span. This is the oldest coffee mill and it was founded in 1933 and is now managed by the 3rd generation of the family.

Kopisan Lai Fun, Hor Hee Noodle, HK Chee Cheong Fun & Popiah

This was a Thursday morning. It was drizzling so we cancelled our morning walk. We drove out to town for breakfast at GP Kopisan, Off Jalan Tokong, Ipoh.

Fish balls and fish cake slices.

Fried goodies.

2 bowls of rice noodle (lai fun) with some sesame seeds and spring onion.

This chili dipping is a must , it makes a great difference.

Breakfast for 2 people.

Dine out dinner.

Some friends recommended this hor hee noodle at a food court. Finally got to try and I ordered the above.

We ordered mung bean noodle (tung fun). It looks nice but it fell short of our expectation after all the recommendation. 

We also ordered steamed Hong Kong chee cheong fun.

And a piece of spring roll (popiah).

This trishaw snapshot was taken in June, 2016 when we visit the Antong Coffee Mill in Taiping. The cyclist driver of this trishaw sits behind the passengers. Some designs has the cyclist driver sitting besides or in front of the passengers.

Kopisan Lai Fun For Breakfast & Steamed Fish For Dinner

This was another cloudy day. I have no complain because the nice cool breeze was good for morning walk.

Rice Noodle for breakfast (Kopisan lai fun in Cantonese).

This rice noodle originated from the Kopisan village in Gopeng. These days, there are a few outlets in Ipoh and we can enjoy this rice noodle without having to drive all the way to Gopeng. The travelling distance is about 23km and a leisure drive will take about 40 minutes from my house.

We ordered 2 bowls of rice noodle in clear anchovy (ikan bilis) soup, served with toasted sesame seeds and spring onion.

Some stuffed ingredients (yeong liew in Cantonese) to go with the noodle.

The above fried item can only be found in the lai fun stalls that originated from Kopisan. It is crispy on the outside and soft inside. One of the ingredients in this item is the crispy and fragrant fried pork lard.

Balsam plants and cockscomb plants in front of my house.

Cockscomb plants are self-propagating and they need very little care.

Simple home cooked dinner for 2.

There are days I will plan what I want to cook for dinner but some days, I will just cook whatever is available in the fridge.

Egg and onion omelette.

Napa cabbage and carrot.

Steamed grouper fish with lots of ginger strips, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce. I prefer not to keep fish too long in the freezer because we can easily get fresh fish every Friday morning.

Men have trained, or can train, every kind of animal or bird

that lives and every kind of reptile and fish,
