Nasi Lemak, Chinese Crullers, Chempedak & Mini Mooncakes

On this particular morning, at our regular coffee shop, we saw packets of nasi lemak for sale on the counter. Someone is supplying pre-packed nasi lemak to the shop.

Hubby ordered a packet of nasi lemak (RM2) and a glass of hot Chinese tea (70 cents).
Some fried anchovies, peanuts, a quarter hard boiled egg, sambal and rice with coconut milk.
I ordered unsweetened black coffee and some Chinese cruller, ma keok and hum chim peng (Chinese doughnuts) which I bought from another shop on our morning walk. These are selling at RM1.20 per piece. Another stall is selling RM1.30 per piece.
Walking home after breakfast at about 8:05am.
8:10am.
For lunch, we had chempedak fruit. It is a seasonal local fruit and has a strong smell when ripen. Hubby bought 3 fruits at RM7 per kilo and they all ripen at almost the same time.
The flesh is thick with small seeds and very sweet. We ate it fresh. Some prefer to fry it with flour batter.

Mooncake or Mid-autumn festival falls on the 10th September, in about a month's time.
We received a gift box of cute mini sized mooncakes.
2 boxes inside the red box.
The mini mooncakes were separately packed.
4 different types: white lotus snow skin mooncake, pandan lotus spiral mooncake, lotus traditional mooncake and red bean Shanghai mooncake.
Since we have tasted these mooncakes, there is no need to buy mooncakes.

Heritage treasures from Penang.
An old building on the right and a modern high rise building on the left.
I didn't go near to take a closer look but it looks like it is still occupied and not abandoned. I can see 2 air-conditioner units and plants well taken care of.

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken.
We are perplexed because we don't know why things happen as they do,
but we don't give up and quit. We are hunted down,
but God never abandon us. We get knocked down,
but we get up again and keep going.

Peach Gum Longan Sweet Drink, Egg Prata & Sambal Chicken

This was eve of the Mid-Autumn or Mooncake Festival. The morning was cloudy.

Morning sky at 7am.
Sunrise behind dark cloud at 7:07am.
7:10am.
On the way back from morning walk, walked to the Mamak shop to buy egg prata (roti telur).
Quite a lot for 1 piece of prata with egg and onion (roti telur).
I cooked oat for myself, added almond slices, walnut chunks and cranberries.
A friend came over to give us 2 mooncakes.
Red bean paste filling (left) and pandan flavour paste filling (right).
We took a long time to finish these 2 mooncakes.
I boiled sweet drink with peach gum with cane sugar and I added in dried persimmon slices and a can of longan. Gave some to neighbour.

I was not in the mood to cook so we went out to the Indian stall to buy dinner.
We bought fried noodle, egg prata (roti telu) and 2 sambal drumsticks (ayam masak merah).
We like this fried beehoon, usually sold out very early.
This egg prata or roti telur has no onion and is smaller than the one we bought in the morning from the Mamak shop.
I like this sambal chicken drumstick (ayam masak merah).
It was a rainy evening and I couldn't resist buying 2 pieces of fried chicken from the next stall in the same restaurant.
Evening sky at 6:55pm.

The heavens are telling the glory of God;
they are a marvelous display of his craftmanship.
Day and night they keep on telling about God.

Beef Burger & Stewed Duck With Lotus Root

This was last Friday. We have a mixture of clear sky, white clouds and dark clouds.

Morning sky at 7:35am.
After morning walk, we drove out to buy breakfast. Further down our street, we saw a roadside stall in front of a house. We stopped to check what they are selling and we ended up buying the following:
Economy fried beehoon with a fried chicken drumstick for hubby.
2 curry puffs for me.
I didn't want any noodle because I want to enjoy my toast with marmalade jam.
Simple breakfast for 2 people.
For lunch, hubby went out to buy beef burger.
We each had one, no sharing.
Lots of vegetables (RM4.50)
Long time haven't eaten burger, don't know how to take the first bite. Lol!
In the end, have to use a plate. With a fork and knife, I cut the burger into halves.
After that, cut into smaller pieces, easier for me to eat without getting messy.
In future, I must tell hubby to add cheese for me.
Received this box of mooncakes from my neighbour.
This they bought from another friend.
Plus a box of these soft biscuits or mooncakes without filling.
Inside the red box were these 2 assorted nuts mooncakes.
These were freshly baked.
These will taste a bit dry when they are fresh.
They will soften after a few days.

Home cooked dinner
Stewed duck with lotus root.
This dish is known as "puppy duck" (kow chai ngap in Cantonese). The original recipe is without the lotus root. Adding the lotus root is my version. I learned to cook this dish many years ago from my sister's domestic helper.
Blanched Romaine lettuce, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
Yummy-licious dinner.
Evening sky at 7:11pm.

Every morning tell him,
"Thank you for your kindness,"
and every evening rejoice in all his faithfulness.

Chili Pan Mee, Peanut Corn Pancake & Mooncakes

This was a Saturday with a lovely morning. I took a snapshot before I started my morning walk.

Sunrise at 7:05am
7:10am
7:15am
Can you see the birds on the tree?
They are chirping their morning greetings to one another.
~~~~~
After morning walk, we drove out to the Kg. Simee market.
I bought 1 kg duku (RM5).
2.5 kg longkong - RM8 per kg
Both longkong and duku are sweet but longkong is juicer than duku.
Then I stopped to buy 2 pieces of thin peanut+corn pancakes.
Next, we drove to buy chili pan mee for breakfast.
We were late, so we have to wait in the car for about 30 minutes.
While waiting in the car, hubby and I ate the pancakes.
Filling: margarine, sugar, crushed peanut and corn cream.
Since we have the pancakes, I ordered only 1 set of chili pan mee.
Vegetable soup is provided.
This is our favourite chili pan mee.
Later in the morning, we received a package addressed to hubby.
Inside was a pink metal box with 2 mooncakes, individually wrapped.
The price printed on the wrapper - RM22.80
Shanghai mooncake with lotus paste + 1 salted egg yolk
Pandan with Black Sesame mooncake (RM21.80)
We didn't know who ordered these mooncakes from JMM Cookies, Ipoh.
We only found out the next day that it was from hubby's ex-colleague after receiving a call asking him whether he has received a package.
During this rainy season, wild mushrooms have started to appear in my garden.
That afternoon, we were blessed with 2 home made mooncakes.
Snow mooncake (left) and lotus+salted egg yolk mooncake (right).
This snapshot was taken when we visited the KL museum in Dec., 2018.
It is true that I am an ordinary, weak human being,
but I don't use human plans and methods to win my battles.
I use God's mighty weapons, not those made by men,
to knock down the devil's strongholds.
