Baked Chicken Wings, Corn Soup & Malabar Spinach

 This was one of the rainy days in the monsoon season.

Starting out on our morning walk at 7am.
7:05am
7:10am
7:15am
My breakfast at one of our regular coffee shop: croissant with butter+kaya and unsweetened black coffee. I was about to start eating the croissant when I suddenly remembered that I want to take a snapshot of my breakfast. Hubby ordered this usual: shredded chicken noodle (kai si hor fun).
Walking home after breakfast - 8:10am.
8:15am.
A friend coming to collect some pineapple baby plants from me.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner.
Baked chicken wings.
I cut each chicken wings into 3 parts. I kept the tips of the wings for boiling soup or for stew. I collect the drummets and mid-section and marinated them with salt, oyster sauce and sugar before roasting them in the oven.
Blanched malabar spinach which I bought from the roadside stall.
Delicious soup on a rainy evening.
Ingredients: 2 corn on cob, carrot, goji berries and pork ribs.
This was a no-rice dinner for hubby and I.
We glide along the tides of time as swiftly as a racing river
and vanish as quickly as a dream.
We are like grass that is green in the morning but mowed down
and withered before the evening shadows fall.
Fish Balls Noodle Soup, Roast Chicken Wings & Home Grown Vegetable
We set out on our morning walk late because we overslept.
Morning sky at 7:10am.
When we have walked enough, we stopped to buy the above Nyonya kuih. Tapioca cake on the left and glutinous rice with sambal shrimp and grated coconut wrapped in banana leaf on the right.
Then we walked to Bai Nong White Coffee for breakfast. We ordered a bowl of rice vermicelli in clear soup, fish balls and 2 stuffed bitter gourd for sharing.
~~~~~
Back home in our garden.
This is hubby's project. After watching some youtube videos, hubby came up with this idea of planting vegetables. As we don't have much space in our side garden, this vertical method will help us save space if the project is successful. He filled the pvc pipe with garden soil and took some of my vegetable seeds to sow in these openings that he made in the pipe.
Since hubby didn't install the self-watering system, he has to water the plants manually.
This is how it looks like now. These are green amaranth (yeen choy). Very encouraging to see the vegetables growing well. Thanks to the success of hubby's project, we can now grow more and different types of vegetables for our own consumption.
This is also green amaranth (yeen choy) which are planted in the ground in front of my house. Some of these are due for harvest and I cut enough for dinner.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner.
Plain blanched green amaranth (yeen choy). I was lazy to make garlic oil so I didn't use any.
I roasted 10 pieces of chicken wings.
The chicken wings were marinated with soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey and some sugar.
I cooked dried noodles. Since there is no garlic oil available, I used chili oil and soy sauce to mix the noodle.
This was our dinner. For appetizer, we had some pickled ginger from the fridge.
You're blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God.
He's food and drink in the best meal you'll ever eat.
Hor Hee Noodles, Baked Chicken Wings & Mushroom Potage Soup
We woke up to a lovely morning and we went on our morning walk. We walked to our regular coffee shop, stopped for our regular cup of coffee and walked back home. It was a short walk because we had a breakfast appointment with a close friend of ours.
Morning sky at 7:28 am
Morning sky with the sun at 7:38 am.
White Frangipani flowers by the roadside.
White eggplants or brinjals harvested from my garden.
~~~~~
Breakfast with friend.
Our friend took us to Restoran 1010 in Taman Kampar, Ipoh new town.
We ordered 3 bowls of Hor Hee noodles.
It has been ages since I last tasted a good Hor Hee noodle.
For extra oomph, I added the bird's eye chilies into my bowl of noodle. Thanks to my friend, I know where to find nice Hor hee noodles.
~~~~~
Afternoon snack.
Hubby went to Bercham to meet his friend and brought back 4 pieces of yummy snack for me. They were still warm and the inside still soft and gluey.
I love the sweet, soft and gluey "neen koh" sandwiched between taro and sweet potato and surrounded with crunchy batter.
~~~~~
Simple home cooked dinner for 2 people
Baked 5 pairs of pre-marinated chicken wings.
Baked chicken wings, Campbell's mushroom potage soup, and some leftover fried prawns from previous day's dinner. We couldn't finish the chicken wings and kept the remaining in the fridge.

He never needs the daily blood of animal sacrifices, as other priests did,
to cover over first their own sins and then the sins of the people;
for he finished all sacrifices, once and for all,
when he sacrificed himself on the cross.

We Had Chicken Wings For Dinner

We reached the park early but others were earlier than us. After our 3rd rounds, the sky was beginning to light up.
 7:00 am - dark cloud looming over us.
I took this snapshot with the spotlight on my left.
 About 20 minutes later, most of the dark clouds were gone.

For dinner, I had marinated 8 pieces of chicken wings the night before and kept them in the fridge.
 Roast chicken wings
 Soupy Malabar Spinach (home grown) with dried prawns and egg.
We had these 2 dishes for dinner - no rice, no noodle.
 Pink Showers (Mexican Petunia).

The following photos were taken at the National Museum.
 Rubber Tapping
All natural rubber originates in the Hevea brasiliensis. Rubber tapping is the process by which rubber is gathered. A tapper starts the trek around the plantation before dawn, as early as 2 am. The coolness of the early morning air encourages the latex to flow thus improving the yield. Tapping will continue until late morning. At each tree a special tapping knife is used to shave off the thinnest possible layer from the intact section of bark. Care must be taken not to cut too deep, nor too thick as this will reduce the productive life of the tree.
If done skillfully, this tapping panel will yield latex for up to 5 years. Then the opposite side will be tapped allowing this side to heal over. The spiral allows the latex to run down to a collecting cup attached to the tree. By noon or early afternoon, the latex will have stopped flowing. The tapper returns a few hours later and empty the latex into tin containers. The tins of latex will be carried back to a small collection centre before they are been transported to the factory. (Notes taken from National Museum).

He turned the desert into pools of water and
the parched ground into flowing springs;
there he brought the hungry to live,
and they founded a city where they could settle.

Enjoying Pretty Flowers & Simple Food

One morning I noticed that my yellow ginger or turmeric plant has flowered again. I have to move the pot to have the flower facing me.
 I bent down to take a good snapshot of the flower.
Can you see the different shades of colours?
 Can you see the above little floret?
Suddenly, I noticed that the cute little floret has "fangs".
 When we slow down and take time to observe the things of nature, we get to see the beauty of God's amazing creation.
 This bee was too busy doing what it knows best.
 It was almost covered with pollen in this red okra flower.
 3 days later, more pretty florets appeared on this yellow ginger or turmeric flower.

Some days, simple food is good enough for us.
One morning we had the following items for breakfast.
My choice - Putu mayam or Indian rice noodle with black coffee.
Putu mayam served with fresh coconut grating and brown sugar.
 Hubby's choice - Toast sweet bread with butter and black coffee.

We had late lunch and I prepared something light for dinner.
Roasted 8 pieces of pre-marinated chicken wings and some fruits for dinner. Picture showed only 5 wings because 3 were already eaten.

Oh, for wings like a dove, to fly away and rest!
