Foochow Kompia & Sightseeing in Sitiawan.

I woke up very early on Tuesday morning to water my plants and to get things ready for a short holiday in Damai Laut. All eight of us in 2 cars met up for breakfast in a restaurant in Menglembu. No photos to show what we ate for breakfast because I have already blogged about the food previously.

We had plenty of time and we took a leisure drive to Sitiawan. The first stop was to buy my favourite snack i.e. the local Foochow Kompia or Bagel.
Initially I bought 10 pieces for my friends to try. The snacks were fresh from the earthen oven and they were very crispy and fragrant with the onion filling.
The bagels or kompia are baked in this earthen ovens.
This snack is best eaten when it is fresh and crispy.  After eating their first piece, I have to buy another 10 pieces. We bought the last 10 pieces. If we want more, we will have to wait for the next batch from the oven.
From the snack shop, we took our friends sightseeing.
A friend and her daughter.
It was a hazy day and the sea view was hazy too.
 Dried or dead mangrove trees.
We spotted many tiny colourful crabs and edible sea snails crawling on the mud surface.
Tiny colourful crabs (purple circles) and some edible sea snails or mud creepers or balitong (orange circles).
A close up view of the edible sea snails / mud creepers / balitong.
This trip we saw a lot of live monkeys.
 Mini pond.

Unknown plant.

It is dangerous and sinful to rush into the unknown.

  1. My ex-colleague is from Sitiawan and he has brought this foochow kompia for us to try. The fillings taste very strongly of onions. They must be very tasty when you ate them fresh straight out from the oven, that's why you had to buy another 10 because it is just too tasty not to.

    1. It is best eaten when its fresh and hot. Some of my friends have tasted the non crispy ones and they didn't like it one bit. But after eating the fresh ones, they changed their minds. If I were to pack home, I will put in the oven to heat up but not as tasty as the freshly baked ones.

  12. Your last picture of the plant is gorgeous!! I, too, would have bought at least 10 of these yummy bagels! We have bagels in the freezer, but none that look this good.
