Lunch At Bao Bao Golden House Restaurant

This was a Tuesday and it was morning walk as usual.

Sunrise at 7:10am.

On the reverse side, facing Kledang Hill.

Hubby and I had lunch with a friend who dropped by for a half day's visit. We decided to try a place which we haven't been to because I felt like having porridge. We have been here once before, that was before they changed ownership or the name of the restaurant.
We ordered the seafood porridge consisting of prawns, fish slices, clams and squids. This image is from the menu and we were expecting the porridge to be like this when it was served.
Surprise! The porridge was served and it was nothing like the image in the menu. But it was alright because the porridge was very tasty. Our friend insisted on ordering 2 side dishes.
#1 Asparagus with prawns.
Bitter gourd with pork ribs.
This yummy-licious lunch was a treat from our friend.
Ixora in my front garden.
For dinner, I cooked bak kut teh or herbal pork rib with pig stomach. The herbs came in a packet which I bought from our nearby Chinese herbal shop. For dinner, it was only bak kut teh and steamed brown rice. Kept back half portion for the next day meal.

Linking to Skywatch Friday.

Work hard and cheerfully at all you do,
just as though you were working for the Lord
and not merely for your masters, remembering that
it is the Lord Christ who is going to pay you,
giving you your full portion of all he owns.
He is the one you are really working for.

  1. I truly have never heard of seafood porridge!
Here porridge is "new" per se and always sweet.
    Oh, to friends!
    And flowers, of course...
Pig stomach?! Former German chancellor Helmut Kohl used to freak out guests with this, LOL.
But then Ingo loves Italian pig-feet. Just seeing that makes me run!

It kinda reminds me of war-times when you eat anything to not starve.
Sorry, I would need to be very, very hungry to eat this - Ingo would be right in with you!
Great skies - still dark here...

  2. Thank you Nancy. The seafood must be covered by the rice congee. I love to eat asparagus. Not many restaurants serve this asparagus dish. Your home cooked stomach Bak Kut Teh must be so delicious! Stomach is difficult to clean, right?

    1. The pork seller will clean the pig stomach for an extra charge. After that, easier for me to clean it.

  3. the porridge must be flavorful from all the seafood in it! presentation-wise, can't expect them to present neatly with the seafood all dug out and arranged as per menu picture.

  9. Lol on the actual dish. Can't trust the photo.

With all the seafood goodness, bet the porridge was good and tasty.

I love asparagus. Fried with prawns is nice but stir fried with lots of garlic is good enough. Not cheap, hardly buy asparagus.

  13. Interesting sea food porridge. We had our last clam chowder I got a Costco a couple weeks ago. One that is in freezer is crab and corn chowder. We eat it when our daughter isn't at home as she is allergic to shell fish. I've not been on a walk for a week due to cold weather and close to freezing. Have a good weekend.

I'm glad the food turned out good even if it didn't quite look like the menu.

  19. Haha picture vs reality! They could have arranged on top but probably there wouldn't be as much seafood as in the picture... no argument possible when all are dunked in.
