Ipoh Railway Station And The Surrounding Buildings

We were at the Ipoh Railway Station end of January to help buy tickets for a friend. Hubby went in to get the tickets and I took the opportunity to snap some photos of the surrounding.

This is the place where the rhythmic water fountain is. A nice place to relax and great for an evening stroll to enjoy the colourful water fountain. Behind the Ipoh sign is the Ipoh town hall.

Below the Ipoh sign, you can see wall sculptures of tin mining activities.

A stone brick cenotaph, unveiled in 1927 to honour men from the state of Perak who died in the Great War.

Across the road is the Ipoh high court.

Water Fountain At Ipoh Railway Station

One evening after our dinner with friends, we drove to the Ipoh Railway Station to help get tickets for a friend. We parked our car and got down to enjoy the cool night air.

#1 - Water fountain

The square or park in front of the railway station is usually crowded on Saturday and Sunday evenings. It was a Friday evening and the place was quiet. Great for watching the fountain display and taking of snapshots for my blog post.

Ipoh Town Hall Seen In Different Lights

Whenever I am at the Ipoh Railway Station, I will take the opportunity to walk around hoping to get some nice snapshots. I happened to be there last week, and I was early. It was about 6.25 pm and I saw a few young people posing and taking photographs. I took some pictures of the post office building and also the town hall building. Many times I have taken pictures of these buildings.

The Ipoh town hall is a beautiful and impressive building facing the Ipoh Railway Station. It was designed by the Government Architect, Arthur Benison Hubback (1871-1948) with Neo-Renaissance Victorian style, surmounted with colossal Greek and Roman columns. It was constructed by British East India Company in 1913 and completed the building in 1916.

Ipoh Town Hall.

Today, I want to share with you a beautiful building and it is our Ipoh Town Hall. Today, this building is still in use. This is the place where important and grand events are being held here, e.g. government events, public events and weddings. 

 This photo was taken at about 12 midday, on the 15.09.2015 (last year), just 15 days after the National Day celebration which was held on the 31.08.2015.

 Last year, May 2015, there was an exhibition at the Urban Transformation Centre by the city council and the following 2 photos were taken from there.

The Town Hall and the Old Post Office/building was located back to back. The building was constructed from 1914 to 1916 in the Neo-Classical style and designed by A.B. Hubback. The Malay Nationalist Party, the first political party formed in Malaya, held its inaugural congress here in the late 1945. The Post Office has since shifted to a nearby new building.

 This photo was taken at about 6.30 pm on the 14th Sept. 2015 during a very bad haze situation.

One year later. This photo was taken at about 6.30 pm, on the 20th Sept. 2016. I was at the Railway Station, facing the Town Hall waiting to pick up hubby, returning from his one day trip to Kuala Lumpur city.
