Siamese Laksa & Herbal Chicken Soup Noodle

We were out of the house by 7:00am for our morning walk.

Morning sky at 7:05
After more than a week of hot and humid weather, we finally had rain for 2 days and the weather is now much cooler.
~~~~~
We drove to Ipoh Garden for breakfast but found the coffee shop closed after the week long holiday. Since we have parked the car, we went to the opposite coffee shop for our breakfast.
I didn't know what I wanted to eat. I looked around and saw a stall selling Siamese Laksa. I haven't eaten Siamese Laksa for a long time, so I ordered a plate.
This was a bit different from what I had before because it has shredded chicken meat. Tastewise was alright. I finished the whole plate.
Hubby ordered a cup of hot coffee and a bowl of herbal chicken soup noodle. No complain about the food. The coffee here is RM2.40, which is 20 cents more than most places. Taste wise, the coffee here lose to those cheaper ones.
Hubby enjoyed his breakfast. The soup is tasty.
I was drawn to another stall and came back with the above items. 2 pieces of tapioca cake and 2 pieces of yam bean dumplings (chai kuih).
How many of you can remember these biscuits? We used to call these "belly button or navel" biscuits. We love to eat these when we were kids. I saw these in the biscuit tin when I stopped to buy some biscuits at the roadside stall.
As a kid, I used to bite off the hard coloured sweet icing and munched on the biscuit after I ate the sweet icing.
Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God.
He has always been alive and is himself God.
He created everything there is - nothing exists that he didn't make.
Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind.
His life is the light that shines through the darkness -
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Siamese Laksa & Lobak (Ngoh Hiang)
This was last day of September. We were ready to start our morning walk, but first I want to take some snapshots of the sunrise.
Sunrise at 6:59am
7:05am
This was our breakfast.
Nasi lemak from the Mamak coffee shop at RM1.50
I ate the quarter portion of hard boiled egg because hubby doesn't like hard boiled egg.
This was my breakfast. A bit of this and that consisting of 1 siew bao, 1 piece of chempedak cake and 3 pieces of cream crackers to dip into my Bru coffee.
While I was in my garden, I noticed this cucumber leaf with rain droplets arranged nicely around the edge of the leaf. The rest of the leaf was dry. Isn't it amazing?
Then I saw another leaf with the same arrangement.
The other leaves were all dry, without any water droplet on them.
The day before, I placed order for 2 packets of Siamese Laksa and a box of lobak or ngoh hiang for our lunch. I have been craving for both Siamese Laksa and Assam Laksa for a long time. This husband and wife team had a stall but have since stopped operating the stall. Now, they are cooking for takeaway once a week, only available for Thursdays and Fridays.
On this particular week, they had Siamese Laksa @ RM7 per packet.
Assam Laksa will be available next week.
I joined their whatsapp list in order receive notifications from them.
6 pieces of Lobak or Ngoh Hiang in a box at RM15.
I sliced 2 pieces to eat with the Siamese Laksa and kept the rest in the fridge.
~~~~~
Lobak for Dinner.
To heat up the lobak, I pan fried them while I steamed the rice.
Home grown purple and green brinjals and long green okra stir fried with sambal dried shrimp.
I sliced the 4 remaining lobak and we were ready to enjoy our dinner.

to sing praises to the God who is above all gods.

and every evening rejoice in all his faithfulness.

Nasi Ulam & Siamese Laksa At Jun Chillax, Ipoh

My friends were telling me that they enjoyed the Nasi Ulam and Siamese Laksa at Jun Chillax. So one evening when I was not cooking at home, we went to Jun Chillax.
 Nice underwater scenes on the wall.
 It was about 6.50 pm and there were 2 other couples already enjoying their meal.
Nasi Ulam (mixed herbs rice) - RM 8.90
No sharing because hubby is not a fan of nasi ulam.
 I ordered the nasi ulam set and it comes with a drink.
I can't remember the price of this set as I couldn't find the bill.
 Hubby ordered a bowl of Siamese Laksa @ RM 9.50
The laksa gravy was thick and taste good but the noodle was overcooked.
 A bowl of cendol ice for hubby.
 Nice water features just outside the entrance door.
From here, we went to attend a Saturday church worship service.

Worship the Lord with the beauty of holy lives.
Let the earth tremble before him.

Breakfast For 3 At Restoran New Hollywood, Ipoh.

One Saturday morning, together with a friend we had breakfast in Canning Garden. We decided on Restoran New Hollywood because there are more choices.
Hubby and friend ordered the Mee Jawa.
I thought of trying the mee jawa but I wanted laksa too.
So this fickle-minded person finally ordered Siamese Laksa.
I gave it a good mix and started to enjoy the laksa.
Hmmm... so satisfying ...
After breakfast, we were here for a special event.
These young people led a vibrant praise and worship.

It is Tuesday once again.
The following photo of an ice-shaver is for joining Tuesday's Treasure and Image-in-ing.
While waiting for the school bus, my classmates and I used to help the ice stall auntie with the hand powered ice shaver. We made our own ice balls from the ice shavings and poured sugar syrup onto the ice balls. We enjoyed sucking the sweet syrup from the ice balls held in our palm. Those were wonderful days.

Don't ever forget those wonderful days
when you first learned about Christ.
Remember how you kept right on with the Lord
even though it meant terrible suffering.

Delicious Noodles & Critters.

It was a Sunday and as usual, we stopped for breakfast on our way to church. We drove to Taman Mirindi to enjoy the chicken soup noodle. I placed an order for a bowl of chicken soup noodle for hubby and I went to order something which I haven't tried from the fried noodle stall.
My plate of crispy fried fresh noodle with gravy came and we both shared the plate of noodle. It tasted good and we both enjoyed it. When hubby went to find out why the chicken soup noodle was taking so long, he was told to wait another half an hour. We didn't want to wait and off we went to church. Our tummies were half filled and we can wait till after church service to enjoy our lunch.
 After church, we drove to Pusat Makanan Ye Sing, a corner shop near Paragon Hotel, Kg. Simee. I ordered these delicious Siamese Laksa for myself.
 And hubby ordered this Hokkien fried fat noodle.
We both enjoyed a satisfying noodle-filled lunch!

I found these ostriches at the Pet Fiesta.
 I once visited the ostrich farm many years ago.

Yummy Siamese Laksa At Restoran Yum Yum, Ipoh.

Last Friday 2 of my retiree friends and I met up for lunch. My friend told me that only on Fridays this restaurant serves Siamese Laksa. Being a fan of Laksa and Siamese Laksa, I was more than eager to get a taste of this laksa. I remembered that my last visit was a long time ago and I have never tasted their laksa.

The hot sunny weather did not deter us from going out for the laksa. On our second round, we got a parking space within walking distance. It was about 1.35 pm when we entered the restaurant. All the tables were taken but the waitress led us to a big table where 2 ladies were just finishing their meal. Just the right timing!
This round, the 3 of us decided to order the Siamese Laksa set.
We came especially for this laksa.
 These crispies are for 3 sets of Siamese Laksa. The lime juice can be added for those who prefer their Laksa to be more sourish.
After squeezing the lime juice over my bowl of Siamese Laksa, I am ready to taste and enjoy. Siamese Laksa has coconut milk added whereas Assam Laksa is without coconut milk. The main ingredients in the laksa are steamed fish flake, spices, shredded veggies, etc, etc.
 Our dessert - Black glutinous rice sweet porridge or tong sui in Chinese.
Black glutinous rice with coconut milk, not too sweet, just right for us.
Laksa + dessert of the day = MYR 7.50  per set.
 1st side order - Yum Yum Brinjal (Eggplant) MYR 10.00.
 2nd side order - Deep fried aromatic sotong or calamari. MYR 17.50
 Decorations on the wall.
We enjoyed the food and also the beautiful company of friends.

Restoran Yum Yum is located at:
5, Persiaran Greenhill, Ipoh. Tel: 05-2537686.

Work happily together. Don't try to act big.
Don't try to get into the good graces of important people,
but enjoy the company of ordinary folks.
And don't think you know it all!
