Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun, Braised Yee Mee & Assam Fish Curry

According to the sop, we are allowed to go out for outdoor activities from 7am onwards. We are not complaining but we do miss going out before the sky lights up before the lockdown.
Sunrise at 6:37am
Even though we are up early, we still have to wait and watch the clock. It is better to follow sop to avoid getting a fine.
6:40am
~~~~~
After morning walk, we drove out to a nearby town to buy breakfast.
We bought Hong Kong chee cheong fun which is rice flour batter steamed with bbq pork and prawns and roast pork. The sauce was packed separately.
With the sauce and sambal paste added to the noodle.
Then add the crispy shallot and sesame.
Roast pork - RM10, next to the chee cheong fun stall.
Lunch
There is a new noodle stall in our area.
Hubby went to buy wat tan hor but was not available that day, so he ended up buying braised yee mee .
The extra sambal from breakfast pairs well with the braised yee mee.
Purplish black pear shaped eggplant or brinjal in my garden.
Eggplants are prone to pests especially the mealy bugs that stick to the underside of the leaves. To control them, I trim away the affected leaves.
That evening, I harvested 1 eggplant and 3 long beans to add to the curry dish.
Home cooked assam fish curry with mackerel (ikan kembung), pineapple, eggplant and long beans. The eggplant is nice and fleshy.
I pan fried the remaining luncheon meat with bacon (4 pieces).
Sauteed green vegetable with garlic and salt to taste.
Homely dinner for 2 people.
Found this pretty spider clinging onto a branch outside my house.
Can someone please help to identify this spider?
My ex-colleague and friend shared with me the following photos.
A bird nest with 2 eggs in my friend's garden.
Photo credited to Marie.
She doesn't know the name of the bird but she told me that it was a medium sized bird with white head. The snapshots were taken in May. The eggs have been hatched and the little birds have flew away leaving behind an empty nest.
Like a bird that fills her nest with young she has not hatched
and which will soon desert her and fly away,
so is the man who gets his wealth by unjust means.
Sooner or later he will lose his riches and
at the end of his life become a poor old fool.
Papaya Soup, Yam Bean With Cuttlefish & Assam Curry Fish
On the way home from morning walk, hubby stopped at the coffee shop to buy Chinese crullers from one of the stalls to take home for breakfast.
Chinese crullers (2 yau chow kuai + 1 ham chim peng)
Left over fried tom yam noodle, heated up.
2-in-1 black coffee.
Breakfast for 2 people.
~~~~~
In my garden
2 round black purplish eggplants.
~~~~~
Simple lunch - just eat whatever is available in the house.
What we usually eat for breakfast became our lunch.
Bread for dipping into half boiled eggs for hubby.
I prefer toast with peanut jam and apricot jam.
~~~~~
Dinner
I cooked a small pot of yam bean (sengkuang) with carrot, dried cuttlefish, and etc. This is aka jiu hu char in Hokkien. Gave 1 tub to neighbour.
Soup: Papaya, carrot, corn, red dates, gojiberries, and soft bone pork.
Gave 2 portions of soup for neighbours.
1 portion for our dinner.
Neighbour ordered assam curry fish for us.
Delicious and satisfying dinner with steamed rice for 2 people.
Ending this post with an evening sky shot @ 7:30pm.
No spectacular sunset, just clouds.

Coconut & Egg Jam (Kaya) & Dinner At Sin Hup Kee Restaurant, Ipoh

We are already at 174th day MCO and MCO will continue until the end of the year. More or less, we have almost gotten used to this new way of life such as gathering only in small group.

Beige or yellow hibiscus.
Normal or not normal, I continue to enjoy the flowers in my garden.
Taking advantage of a sunny day, I washed my son's blanket.
~~~~~
Since I won't be cooking dinner, I planned to make kaya (coconut + egg jam). Hubby volunteered to help me stirred the kaya.
This is how I cooked the kaya with hubby stirring the kaya.
For those who is interested in how I cook the kaya, here is the simple recipe:
Ingredients
10 eggs,
500 gm sugar (if you prefer a sweeter taste, you can use 600 or 700 gm),
500 gm thick coconut milk
about 1/4 tsp salt
6 pandan (screwpine) leaves cut into 1.5 inch length.
* Thicken coconut milk: I bought a kilo of coconut milk, chilled it in the fridge. Then I scooped out 500 gm from the top thicken milk and kept the rest in the freezer for cooking other recipes.
** Pandan leaves extract: Wash 6-7 pandan leaves, cut into short lengths, pound the leaves to extract whatever juice from the pulp. I prefer to use natural pandan leaves extract.
Method:
Boil water in a pot over medium fire.
Gently beat 10 eggs in a stainless steel pot with hand whisk or wooden ladle.
Add the sugar in 2 to 3 batches to the egg and keep stirring the mixture.
Stir until the sugar has melted.
Place a towel in the slow boiling water in the pot.
Place the pot of egg + sugar mixture on the towel in the pot.
Keep stirring the egg + sugar mixture and add the cut pandan leaves.
Stir for a few minutes.
Add the 500 gm coconut milk + pandan extract, keep stirring all the time.
Keep stirring until the mixture starts to thicken.
It will take about 2 to 2.5 hours to get the desired texture or thickness.
Hubby and I took turns to stir the kaya mixture.
I prefer using this method because I like my kaya with smooth textures.
My pandan flagrant kaya or coconut+egg jam.
After all the hard work of stirring the kaya, we just couldn't wait to taste the freshly made kaya. Once cooled, we spread the kaya on bread. It was worth the work and time used to make the delicious pandan fragrant kaya or coconut+egg jam.
Evening sky at 7:00 pm. Going out for dinner with friends.
Assam curry with black pomfret at Restoran Sin Hup Kee, Ipoh.
Flavourful chicken with thick soy sauce - their signature dish.
Stir fried belacan sweet potato leaves.
We had a wonderful and satisfying dinner with our friends.
You constantly satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.
Wonderful Birthday Dinner & Dessert
This was before the nationwide movement control announcement. Together with some friends, we had dinner at Sin Hup Kee Restaurant, Ipoh. It was suppose to be our dinner treat to celebrate my birthday but my friends insisted on picking up the tab for dinner as well as dessert.
 Tofu with angled loofah.
 Assam curry fish (black pomfret)
 Minced pork with salted fish patty.
 Romaine lettuce with fermented bean curd.
After dinner we adjourned to Ice-Cream Lab, Jalan Sultan Iskandar.
This is our first time except for a friend who has been here before.
The ice cream is specially made according to customer's order or preference. Customers have to wait because there is only one ice cream making machine.
  Here is a short video showing the ice cream machine.
 Types of ice cream toppings.
 Picture on the wall.
 Picture on the wall.
 A friend ordered this piece of cake for 5 of us to taste.
 This is a 3 scoops vanilla ice cream but 1 scoop was given to a friend.
 2 scoops of blueberry ice cream for the birthday girl and hubby.
This is the best way to pass the time while waiting for the ice cream.
Lord, if you keep in mind our sins,
then who can ever get an answer to his prayers?
But you forgive! What an awesome thing this is!
That is why I wait expectantly,
trusting God to help, for he has promised.
