Hyacinth Bean Soup & Steamed Pork Rib With Cauliflower

This was 2 Tuesdays ago. This was another one of the hot and humid days we are having here.

Beautiful sunrise at 7:06am.
Golden sunrise at 7:26am.
Morning sky at 7:27am.
Clear blue sky and white cloud.
Simple home prepared breakfast.
We had half boiled eggs, toast and jam.
Milo kosong for hubby and Bru coffee with nestum for me
For lunch, we had glutinous rice dumplings (bak chang).
These are the smaller bak chang and just nice for a not so heavy lunch.
The bak chang filling consist of mung beans, salted egg yolk and pork. We have been buying these at RM11 for 3 bak changs. We were informed that very likely they will have to increase the price due to the increasing prices of raw materials.

When the weather is hot and humid, my kitchen becomes like an sauna room. I have a mini fan in the kitchen but it doesn't help much. I will be sweating away and my t-shirt will be all wet. So, to spend less time in the kitchen, I tried to cook dishes with less preparation time.
Steamed pork rib with salted black beans with the cauliflower as base in a metal plate.
Soup:  Green hyacinth beans (pang pei dau), carrot, red dates, goji berries, and chicken bones. Cooking soup is easy. I just dump everything into a pressure cooker. Once it reached high pressure, I let it slow cook for 25 to 30 minutes over low fire. In this way, it taste like authentic soup cooked the traditional way and it also helps to save gas.
This steamed pork rib dish and the soup is an appetizing combination for a warm and sweaty evening.

I received the following photos from my friend.
She saw this monitor lizard in the drain outside her house.
Photos credited to Shirley T.
If I see this, I don't know whether I have the courage to take these snapshots.

Don't be impatient.
Wait for the Lord, and he will come and save you!
Be brave, stouthearted and courageous.
Yes, wait and he will help you.

Simple Western Style Breakfast & Pig's Stomach Soup

This was on a Saturday. The night before, the weather forecast showed that there was possibility of a morning shower.

Morning sky at 6:45am.
There was not even a slight shower but the morning sky was gloomy.
Morning sky with pink cloud at 7:05am, taken on our morning walk.
Clear blue sky at 7:45am.
By 8:08am, the sky turned dark.
We stopped at a roadside stall to buy some snacks.
I bought "nam yee" and "tau sar" biscuits.
~~~~~
Breakfast
We bought this luncheon meat with bacon for the 1st MCO.
I pan fried the luncheon meat, 4 eggs and heated up the baked beans.
After making the hot drinks, I toasted the bread.
Milo for hubby and coffee for me.
Purple and red bougainvillea in my front garden.
~~~~~
Dinner
I boiled pig's stomach soup with crushed white peppercorns, ginkgo nuts, onions and soft bone pork. This soup is good for keeping our tummies and bodies warm.
Sauteed sweet potato leaves with garlic and salt to taste.
I heated up some frozen sambal anchovis. Cut home grown green chilies with soy sauce as dipping sauce.
Satisfying dinner for 2 people on a cool evening.
Here is another piece of mural or wall art from the wall surrounding a nearby Chinese school.

You are my hiding place from every storm of life;
you even keep me from getting into trouble!
You surround me with songs of victory.
I will instruct you (says the Lord) and
guide you along the best pathway for your life;
I will advise you and watch your progress.

Home Made "Melt In The Mouth" BBQ Pork

This was last Tuesday. I captured a few morning sky shots before we started out on our morning walk.

Morning sky at 7:01am
Dreamy morning sky.
On the reverse side
One snapshot while walking.
~~~~~
Breakfast
2 half boiled eggs, 2 pieces of bread with coconut jam (kaya) and hot milo for hubby.
2 pieces of toast with peanut jam and apricot jam and hot milo for me.
~~~~~
Dinner
Home made "melt in the mouth" bbq pork.
Cook the pre-marinated pork belly (kept overnight in the fridge) together with the marinate sauce in non-stick pan. Added some water to dilute the sauce in the pan. Cook over medium fire until it started to boil, then let it simmer covered over low fire. Check frequently to make sure the sauce doesn't dry out. Turn to cook the pork on both sides. Once the pork belly is cooked and soft enough, off the fire.
Cut the cooled bbq pork belly and kept aside one portion for our neighbour.
Kept the bbq sauce in a separate bowl. If sauce is too thick, add some water and cook over a fire.
Sauteed napa cabbage + carrot with garlic and salt.
Getting ready for photography session.
Poured the bbq sauce over the bbq pork and let's eat!
To keep ourselves connected, my foodie friends and I will post and share photos of our meals on our Whatsapp chat group.
Mangoes for dessert.
Our day ended with this evening sky at 7:20pm.

Saturday's Ctitters
Baby grasshopper.
I saw a strange big ant on the trash bag which I haven't seen before. I used Google Lens app and it was identified as the Green Tree Ant. Information from the internet says that its sting is poisonous and can cause a strong allergic reaction that often leads to an anaphylactic shock. Before it could get away, I quickly flatten it. I hope its nest is not anywhere near my house. So far, so good, until now there has been no more sighting of this type of ant.

Don't brag about tomorrow,
since you don't know what the day will bring.
Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth -
a stranger, not your own lips.

Papaya Soup, Yam Bean With Cuttlefish & Assam Curry Fish

On the way home from morning walk, hubby stopped at the coffee shop to buy Chinese crullers from one of the stalls to take home for breakfast.

Chinese crullers (2 yau chow kuai + 1 ham chim peng)
Left over fried tom yam noodle, heated up.
2-in-1 black coffee.
Breakfast for 2 people.
~~~~~
In my garden
2 round black purplish eggplants.
~~~~~
Simple lunch - just eat whatever is available in the house.
What we usually eat for breakfast became our lunch.
Bread for dipping into half boiled eggs for hubby.
I prefer toast with peanut jam and apricot jam.
~~~~~
Dinner
I cooked a small pot of yam bean (sengkuang) with carrot, dried cuttlefish, and etc. This is aka jiu hu char in Hokkien. Gave 1 tub to neighbour.
Soup: Papaya, carrot, corn, red dates, gojiberries, and soft bone pork.
Gave 2 portions of soup for neighbours.
1 portion for our dinner.
Neighbour ordered assam curry fish for us.
Delicious and satisfying dinner with steamed rice for 2 people.
Ending this post with an evening sky shot @ 7:30pm.
No spectacular sunset, just clouds.
and who is still to come - the Almighty One."
