Salted Chicken & Cucumber Cooked With Bean Curd Knots

When I woke up, I thought I heard drizzling but it was not.

Sunrise at 7:05, setting out on our morning walk.
I found the above and below photos in my folder which I took before they were removed after the Chinese New Year celebration. These red lanterns brightened up the grey sky.
The year of the Tiger, Chinese New Year 2022.
I miss eating roast pork but currently many people are queuing up for this. Many are back from outstation for the "Cheng Beng" festival and roast pork is one of the hot items for visitors and also for some, it is one of the items for prayer. "Cheng Beng" is when family members visited the graves of love ones to clear, sweep and pray. So it is better to wait till the "cheng beng" period is over to enjoy roast pork.

What we had for dinner.
Salted chicken from our neighbour. She brought back from Kampar.
Home grown cucumbers cooked with bean curd knots.
This was our dinner without any rice.
The night was quite cold, so we each had a cup of hot milo to warm up.

As long as the earth remains,
there will be springtime and harvest,
cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night.

Steamed Tilapia With Koay Teow & Home Grown Cucumbers

Have  you eaten steamed fish with noodle before? I haven't. When this eatery suggested this dish to us, twice we rejected. It was only after a friend recommended it to us saying that it is very good, only then we got curious and wanted to try. The opportunity came when I was not in the mood to cook, so we decided to have this dish for special dinner.

We drove out early, about 5:30pm to Restoran WSF 33, Jalan Bharu (parallel to Jalan Tokong), Taman Hoover, Ipoh. We prefer to eat and leave early to avoid the dinner crowd.
If you have been following my blog, you would have noticed that lately we have been here quite often to try out the different types of steamed fish. This is the way to encourage hubby to eat fish.
Part of their menu.
We couldn't get our friends to join us since it was a last minute decision, so we ordered only 2 dishes without rice.
Blanched vegetable (choy fah).
Steamed Tilapia (smaller size) with koay teow (flat rice noodle). The koay teow was separated into 2 portions; one on each side of the fish.
So instead of rice, we had koay teow (noodle) with the fish and vegetable. Ipoh is known for its soft, silky koay teow. For those who love fish and koay teow, you will enjoy this dish. Hubby paid RM37 for the 2 dishes.

From my garden.
These are my cucumber plants.
Cucumbers harvested from my garden.
Instead of buying fresh coconut water, I have been blending cucumber juice for hubby and I. Sometimes we have it plain, sometimes I add some salted sour plum (assam boi) to the cucumber juice for extra flavour.
Some of the produce from my garden.
The extra will be shared with friends and neighbours.

Home Grown Vegetables, Tai Pau Or Steamed Big Bun

On one morning last week, I harvested the following from my garden.

A cucumber and a tomato.
4 small white bitter gourds.
The last batch of long beans from the dwarf long bean plants. I have pulled up the aging plants to free the pot for some other plants.
Home grown from my garden.
Can you see the spots on the small tomato? When I cut the tomato, there will tiny worms inside the tomato. I hope that by wrapping the remaining tomatoes with recycled plastic bags will save the tomatoes from worms.
My neighbour gave us 2 big buns (tai bao) which I re-steamed to heat up for our lunch.
Inside the steamed big bun.
Update on the arrowhead shoots.
Sad to say that the arrowheads have turned yellow and it was a failed project.
~~~~~
Simple home cooked dinner.
I added 2 white bitter gourds to the remaining portion of stewed duck.
1 dish dinner with steamed brown for hubby and I.
I forgot where I saw this cat. It was sunbathing on the tar road and not disturbed by my presence.
the one is Justice and the other Righteousness.
Mercy and Truth walk before you as your attendants.
Blessed are those who hear the joyful blast of the trumpet,
for they shall walk in the light of your presence.
Cucumbers, Brinjals, Long Beans & Cauliflower From My Garden
Today's post is a mixture of bits and pieces or mish mash of photos I have taken.
Passing by 2 pigeons on one of our morning walk.
Waiting for this home grown plant to bear cauliflower.
Cucumbers hanging from the vine in my garden.
Green brinjals or eggplants harvested from 3 plants.
The above were harvested one day earlier.
One of the long beans is more than 25 inches long.
Every now and then, I have to check for these mealy bugs that hide under the brinjal leaves. I have to cut them off to prevent them from spreading to other leaves.
These black ants love to feed on the mealy bugs and also help to spread the mealy bugs to other plants. Someone recommended using washing dishes liquid detergent and water solution to spray on them which I have yet to test it out.
One evening I found this dragonfly clinging on the edge of a wooden frame on the wall.
It was showing its belly or the underside of its body. I tried to catch it to release it outside the house but it flew away and I couldn't find it. I found it dead on the floor the next morning. If it didn't fly away, I could have saved it.
Homemade Stuffed Green Brinjals & White Bitter Gourds
This was 1st December. I harvested the following from my garden.
Some white bitter gourds and green brinjals. This round the bitter gourds are on the smaller sizes. I will be using the above to cook for dinner.
The bottom of this bitter gourds doesn't look good so I decided to harvest it as well. But when I cut it up, the bitter gourd was not spoilt. It is probably due to the excess rainwater.
I used all the above to make stuffed green brinjals and white bitter gourds. Ingredients for stuffing: A mixture of minced meat, fish paste, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, and cornflour.
Blanched store bought pak choy, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
On morning after breakfast, we walked past a motorcycle repair shop and saw this Vespa motorcycle parked in front of the shop.
Hubby stopped to chat with the owner of the repair shop and conveniently I took these snapshot of the Vespa motorcycle. I don't know whether it is on display or was there for some repair work.
The heavens are telling the glory of God;
they are a marvelous display of his craftmanship.
Day and night they keep on telling about God.
Curry Noodles, Meat Balls, Fish Balls & Beansprout For Breakfast
This was last Sunday. We couldn't go for morning walk because there was a light drizzle.
No sunrise shot that morning because of the gloomy sky but I received a sunrise shot sent to me by a friend from Penang.
Bauhinia Kockiana blooms from my garden.
~~~~~
Breakfast with elder son at Curry Keng Restoran.
Both hubby and son ordered curry noodle (dry version).
I ordered curry noodle (wet version with curry broth).
I usually ordered flat rice noodle because I like the soft and silky smooth texture.
Side order: meat balls and fish balls in curry broth.
Side order: Blanched beansprouts.
Later, we will be meeting up with my sister-in-law and family for vegetarian lunch.
Back in my garden: Baby cucumber.
Because of the rainy season, my cucumber vines are not growing well.
Cucumber and long beans are first fruits.
Green brinjal from an old plant.
