Yam Rice & Peppery Soup, Durians & Mangosteen

The following photos were taken on our morning walk.

Sunrise at 7:09am.
Sunrise at 7:10am.
Sunrise at 7:23am.
Hubby knows I love yam rice. On this particular Wednesday, he took me to this food court called Pusat Makanan Enam Enam in Bercham.
The stall selling the yam rice is inside the food court.
I picked some fish and meat balls to be cooked in pepper soup. I also ordered a bowl of yam rice.
You can choose from the many varieties available.
There are many pieces of yam and other ingredients in the rice.
Hubby also ordered a bowl of yam rice.
For the soup, he picked pork belly, stomach and intestine to be cooked in pepper soup. They also have plain clear soup if you don't want the pepper soup. You can also pick vegetables for the soup.
I ordered a small plate of vegetable acar from the roast meat rice stall.

After lunch, we went to buy durians. I don't know the place or the name of the shop. All I know is that there were baskets full of durians placed in front of the 2 shops. The durians were sold at RM5, RM8, RM10 and onwards per kilo. This was about 3 weeks ago. That day, we bought around RM50 worth of durians.
Upon reaching home, we opened all the durians. We ate all we want and packed the rest in containers to be place in the freezer to be enjoyed later. The chilled durians taste like durian ice creams.
I also bought about 3 kilos of mangosteens at RM7 per kilo.
Mangosteen is one of my favourite fruits. Mangosteen is a seasonal fruit and we only get to enjoy it once or twice a year at the same time as the durian season. Unfortunately, mangosteen is no longer a cheap fruit.
The fruit is white, soft and taste sweet. Inside the white flesh is a seed. Be careful not to get the stain from the skin onto your clothing. Not easy to remove the stubborn stain.

If he sows to please his own wrong desires,
he will be planting seeds of evil and
he will surely reap a harvest of spiritual decay and death;
but if he plants the good things of the Spirit,
he will reap the everlasting life that the Holy Spirit gives him.

Delicious Durians In Penang

For this trip, our friend booked 2 rooms at Hotel Neo Penang for 1 night.

We reached the hotel just before 1pm.
Waited for our room keys.
There is a cafe next to the hotel lobby.
Opposite the hotel is this old coffee shop.
We were told that the economy rice (chap fun) here is very tasty.
Our rooms were on the 15th floor. I forgot to snap photos of the room. For RM130, we had a comfortable room with 2 single beds, TV, air-conditioned, kettle, tea and coffee sachets provided, in the room, hot & cold water, and hair dryer provided.
View from our room.
Dark clouds looming over the island.
Looking down from our room, we can see the roofs of the older buildings.
It is a mixture of old and new high rise buildings.
~~~~~
We rested for about an hour in our rooms and then it was time to go out again for our durian snack.
Durians in plastic baskets.
We went for the non bud grafted "kampung" or "village" durians.
I think we had about 3 fruits with mixture of different tastes.
The durians are of thick creamy textures. ome are sweet and some with a tinge of bitter taste. I love the ones with bitter taste. We were told by our Penang friend to just enjoy the durians and worry about the payment later.
The pretty lady opening the durian fruit with a durian opening gadget.
With this gadget, there is no need to use a knife and save the person a lot of effort.
Price list for the different types of durian available.
A banner with their contact numbers.
Opposite this roadside durian stall, there is a stall selling roti canai durian but it was not open at that time. We wouldn't mind ordering some of this bread to try.
So let us feast upon him and grow strong in the Christian life,
leaving entirely behind us the cancerous old life
with all its hatreds and wickedness.
Let us feast instead upon the pure bread
of honor and sincerity and truth.
Sambal Prawn Noodle, Durian, ABC Soup With Corn
This was a Thursday.
Took this sunrise shot at 7am before we start our morning walk.
We pass by this abandoned house every time we use this route.
Chinese art mural on the wall of a Chinese school.
On our way home, we stopped to collect our breakfast.
Economy beehoon with sambal prawns and potato.
Chilled durians for lunch.
My Bugs Bunny Kitchen Timer.
Got this for free when we visited a Home Decor exhibition years ago. This timer is very useful in reminding me if I have something slow cooking in the kitchen. These days, I tend to be forgetful.
ABC Soup
Ingredients used: Potato, carrot, tomato, onions, corn, and soft bone pork.
Blanched green vegetable (choy fah), drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
Thankful for this dinner and grateful for God's provision.
Linking to Monday Mural.
Oh, how grateful and thankful I am to the Lord because he is so good,
I will sing praise to the  to the name of the Lord who is above all lords.
This was a Saturday. Snapshots taken on our morning walk.
Sunrise at 7:22am
Parasitic plants growing on the tree. Can hear the birds chirping and singing but they were too small to be seen.
Breakfast bought from 2 different coffee shops, located back to back.
Left: Wat tan hor (noodle with egg gravy) for hubby.
Right: Curry noodle with stuffed ingredients for me and 3 pieces of "pulut udang" which is glutinous rice with dried shrimp and coconut filling wrapped with banana leaf.
This is how the "pulut udang' or glutinous rice with dried shrimp and coconut filling looks like without the banana leaf wrapping.
Angled luffa, snake beans and green brinjals harvested from my garden.
~~~~~
Lunch
Leftover porridge from the previous day's dinner.
We love ginger strips with our rice porridge.
This time have to do without chopped spring onions.
~~~~~
About 1:30pm, I received a call from my friend informing that the durian supplier has reached her house.
These are hill durians.
I ordered 20 kilos of durians.
All ready packed in pastic bags.
Selling at RM5 per kilo.
They may not look like the branded durians but I think hill durians taste much better than most branded durians. Plus, the price is so much cheaper than branded durians.
I love durians and one of my favourite is the hill durians. I opened up all the durians. placed them into plastic containers. They will go into the freezer. Once thawed, they can be eaten and they taste like durian ice cream. Hubby and I had a durian feast that afternoon and we have to skip dinner that evening.
