Durians! Finger Licking Yummy-licious!

This was a Saturday. Snapshots taken on our morning walk.

Parasitic plants growing on the tree. Can hear the birds chirping and singing but they were too small to be seen.

Breakfast bought from 2 different coffee shops, located back to back.
Left: Wat tan hor (noodle with egg gravy) for hubby.
Right: Curry noodle with stuffed ingredients for me and 3 pieces of "pulut udang" which is glutinous rice with dried shrimp and coconut filling wrapped with banana leaf.
This is how the "pulut udang' or glutinous rice with dried shrimp and coconut filling looks like without the banana leaf wrapping.

Lunch
Leftover porridge from the previous day's dinner.
We love ginger strips with our rice porridge.
This time have to do without chopped spring onions.

About 1:30pm, I received a call from my friend informing that the durian supplier has reached her house.
These are hill durians.
I ordered 20 kilos of durians.
All ready packed in pastic bags.
Selling at RM5 per kilo.
They may not look like the branded durians but I think hill durians taste much better than most branded durians. Plus, the price is so much cheaper than branded durians.
I love durians and one of my favourite is the hill durians. I opened up all the durians. placed them into plastic containers. They will go into the freezer. Once thawed, they can be eaten and they taste like durian ice cream. Hubby and I had a durian feast that afternoon and we have to skip dinner that evening.

  3. I'd go for the curry noodles, look nicer than the wat tan hor. Oooo...the pulut udang looks good. Can't get that here - udang kering too expensive, I suppose. Durians? No, thank you. LOL!!!

    Durians are also grown in northern Australia but I understand they are not the best smell but the fruit if very good for you.

  6. I will go for the pulut udang in your breakfast! The glutinous rice looks so thick, soft and bit chewy. Yums! Wow! Lusting after your greens harvest. So much! Did you give part of it to your neighbour? I agree that hill durian is really good value for money. I will eat them too. Any durian, I will sapu cos I love to eat durian. Super yums!

  7. Wow, There are lots of durian! I love durian too. But for this current season, I only ate 2-4 pcs because we only bought 2 durians.

  8. Those are very fat and cute pulut udangs.

    While I have been having durian, I miss seeing them in the shell. Mine are all prepacked and sort of... sterile and boring.

    1. Thank you, Stacy. The prepacked durians save you the trouble of opening the durian shells. But I do enjoy the opening and prying of the shells of durians.

    1. It is difficult to describe durians. It has many flavours, sometimes sweet, sometimes slightly bitter, and some are tasteless, etc. You will have to taste it youself to experience what a durian taste like. Either you will love it or you will hate it.

    Long time did not go for morning walk. My man is lazy lately. He doesn't wake me up for morning walk for a week now. Lol.

  11. Waaaahhh......I will eat any type of durian even if it is hill durian or durian kampung. Really craving for it now and perhaps I shall buy online!

  18. Nancy, your sunrise images are very beautiful, I am struck by how copious your breakfasts are, around here they are less abundant: milk, coffee, toast, butter and jams.
    I read that durian has a very unpleasant smell, is that right?

  24. You have just given me a good idea to order Wat Tan Hor for my dinner tonight. I will ask them to add 2 eggs instead. Yums!

    I always like to eat wild and kampung durians for a change. Just like your Hill Durians, they would taste better than branded ones.
