Indonesian Rendang Paste With Pork And Potato

A morning with gloomy sky but the weather was warm and humid.

7:20am - facing the Kledang Hill.
On the way back, hubby bought a packet of economy fried beehoon with fried egg and sambal from the roadside stall.
That morning, I prefer to eat toast with jam.
After I finished the apricot spread, I opened the orange and ginger spread. I love these because of the fruit chunk in the spread.
That morning I harvest some chives buds.
For lunch, we had noodle (mee sua) with the leftover black chicken herbal soup.
Something was wrong with one of my brinjal or aubergine plant.
The leaves started to turn yellow.
This plant which is from the same pot is normal, so I discarded the one with the yellow leaves.
We received 5 steamed buns from our neighbour which we kept in the fridge for the next day's breakfast.
This hibiscus is happy with the warm weather, has been flowering none stop.
I stock checked the instant pastes I had and decided to use the above Indonesian rendang paste to cook rendang using pork and potatoes.
I also added in turmeric (kunyit) leaves, thinly shredded to the rendang.
Blanched baby choy sum and home grown chive buds, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
Appetizing dinner for 2 people.

Stuffed Fish, Pickled Fruit, Turmeric Rice & Black Chicken Herbal Soup

A morning without any sign of sunrise. We started our walk at about 7am.

Facing west, the Kledang Hill.
Gloomy sky.

I sought my neighbour's help with the Chinese character.
The Chinese character means Sincere.
This one means filial.
On the way back, we stopped to buy fried noodle and pig's skin+long bean curry.
Economy fried noodle + curry + milo for hubby.
I picked and ate the long beans in the curry.
Toast + apricot jam + black coffee for me.
Midday sky at 12:50pm.
A friend came to pass me a tub of turmeric+coconut oil rice.
And a small tub of fruit pickle or acar buah in Malay.
It so happened that my neighbour bought 2 stuffed fish for us.
Heated up leftover steamed sour plum sauce pork rib.
Delicious and filling lunch for 2 people.
~~~~~
The friend who sent me the turmeric rice and fruit pickle forwarded the following photos from her garden.
Is this a Bromeliad/Guzmania?
Hope someone can help to identify this plant.
No rice for dinner since we had taken rice for lunch. Instead we had noodle.
Ending this post with an evening sky at 7:48pm.
But the good man - what a different story!
For the good man - the blameless, the upright,
the man of peace - he has a wonderful future ahead of him.
For him there is a happy ending.
Home Cooked Meals With Winged Beans & Red Okra.
When I first planted winged beans or the four angled beans in my garden, it took quite a while for the plants to produce beans. They started blooming flowers but most of the flowers dropped off probably due to the heavy downpour. After a while, the beans started to appear and every morning I get to harvest a handful of beans. The freshly plucked tender beans taste good and they can be raw as salad (ulam) eaten with spicy prawn paste (sambal belacan).
I missed the rendang dish which I used to enjoy eating before my retirement. So one day, I decided to cook my own beef rendang dish. A rendang dish is meat cooked in coconut milk and spices. It is a dry curried meat dish cooked until the meat is tender and have absorbed all the flavour of the spices.
Yummy beef rendang dish and blanched winged beans.
My beef rendang dish recipe is a very simple one. If you are interested, there are many simple rendang recipes on youtube, Rendang can be eaten with bread, plain white rice or rice cooked in coconut milk (nasi lemak), etc.
Winged beans can be eaten raw (ulam) but hubby prefer cooked beans. These beans were blanched in hot boiling water with salt added and eaten plain with the rendang dish.
We couldn't finish the rendang dish and the left over was kept for the next day's dinner. Left over rendang taste better than freshly cooked rendang.
Freshly harvested tender and crunchy winged beans and red okra, ready for another day's dinner.
Winged beans and red okra from my garden.
Blanched winged beans and red okra (turned pale green when cooked). This dish was served with crunchy fried garlic and garlic oil and oyster sauce drizzled over the dish.
Fried a few fishes for dinner.
My son brought back a whole tub of fresh fishes from his fishing trip.
One morning we saw black chicken sold in the mini market. I haven't cooked black chicken soup for a long, long time. I bought one black chicken to boil a simple soup with goji berries (kei chee) and red dates.
This morning I managed to snap some clear pictures of the winged bean flowers.
Once the sun is up, the pictures won't turn out nicely.
If we take time to notice, every flower has its own beauty.
Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation:
seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it,
according to their various kinds."
And it was so. The land produced vegetation:
plants bearing seed according to their kinds and
trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.
And God saw that it was good.
