Breakfast In Kg. Tawas & Home Cooked Dinner With Friends

A friend recommended a place where we can have breakfast. Twice we have been but the place was closed. So on the 3rd time, the place was open and we got to try the noodles and stuffed items. This eatery is named Gerai Makanan Hoi Teen in Kampung Tawas and is facing the main road.

Hubby and I shared the above bowl of noodle with pork tripe with daikon soup.
Our side order #1: broccoli, green chili and brinjal stuffed with fish paste.
Our side order #2: Fried stuffed bean curd sheet and fried dumplings.
Our friends shared the above noodle with roast pork and long bean curry.
Their side order #1: Fried stuffed bean curd.
Their side order #2: Stuffed tofu, okra, bitter gourd and meat ball.
~~~~~
Our turn to play host.
That evening we had home cooked dinner in our house.
Time to harvest the green amaranth (yeen choy) from my garden.
The rain has helped the vegetable to grow well.
Stuffed home grown white bitter gourds.
No chili sauce in the house so instead we had roasted sesame dressing as dipping sauce for the stuffed bitter gourd.
Blanched green amaranth and okras with 3 types of egg gravy.
(salted egg, century egg and chicken egg)
This time the egg white was a overcooked.
Soup ingredients:
White bitter gourds, carrot, red dates, goji berries and pork rib.
~~~~~
The following food and durian were contributed by our friends.
Chee cheong fun from Teluk Intan.
Bbq stuffed pork intestine.
To complete our dinner, we had durian for dessert.

If you want favor with both God and man,
and a reputation for good judgment and common sense,
then trust the Lord completely;
don't ever trust yourself.

White Bitter Gourd Soup & Steamed Okra + Brinjal

We are still having lots of rain, hopefully no more floods or damaging thunderstorms.

Sunrise at 7:35am.
We usually have sunny morning and rain later in afternoon or night.
~~~~~
Due to too much water, the bitter gourds were getting yellow tips so I had to harvest them earlier. The only way to consume them fast is either to make stuffed bitter gourd or use them to boil soup.
Since I had soup bones in the freezer, I decided to make bitter gourd soup which happens to be one of hubby's favourite soups.
We also had steamed long green okras and green brinjals (eggplants), topped with chili oil and soy sauce. This was our home cooked dinner for 2 people.
Hubby likes the colourful Coleus. He has been collecting different types of Coleus from kind and generous aunties that we pass by on our morning walk. The following are the Coleus in our collection.
These colourful leaves make up for their tiny flowers
The voice says, "Shout!"
"What shall I shout?" I asked.
"Shout that man is like the grass that dies aways,
and all his beauty fades like dying flowers.
The grass withers, the flowers fades beneath the breath of God.
And so it is with fragile man. The grass withers, the flowers fade,
but the word of our God shall stand forever."
Deep Fried Fish Slices, Bitter Melon Soup & Steamed Clams
I used the remaining two-third of the frozen fish that my neighbour gave to cook for two days' dinner.
In order to cover the "fishy" smell of the fish slices, I marinated the fish slices with salt, sugar, and curry powder. Just before deep frying, I tossed the fish slices with potato flour.
1st day's dinner
This was 1st day's dinner for 2 people.
Omelette.
Crispy on the outside.
Sweet and sourish Thai chili sauce dipping for the deep fried fish slices.
Karela or small bitter melon soup boiled with carrot, red dates, gojiberry and pork rib.
~~~~~
2nd day's dinner
There were leftover omelette and fried fish slices from the previous day's dinner.
Just add 1 new dish - Steamed clams.
Good that we were able to finish all the dishes without any wastage.
~~~~~
From my garden.
My calamansi plant is flowering again.
The flowers give off a nice fragrance and the bees are back again.
I don't know what type of bees but they are small in size.
Dead flies will cause even a bottle of perfume to stink!
Yes, a small mistake can outweigh much wisdom and honor.
Stay Home, Stay Safe, Eat & Grow Fat!
Yesterday, 21st day MCO with 7 more days to go. Will the MCO be lifted after the 7 days or will it be extended again? Most likely, we will have to stay home for another 2 weeks till end of April. May God bless the decision makers with wisdom to decide. Meanwhile, let us continue to play our part by doing whatever is necessary to protect ourselves and others from the virus. Stay home, stay safe, eat and grow fat.
Bitter Gourd Chicken Soup & Chives Egg Omelette For Dinner
Bitter gourds or bitter melons are consumed for the many health benefits. These gourds or melons have cancer fighting properties, can help to reduce blood sugar, decrease cholesterol, reduce weight, and etc. Since the weather is so hot, it will be good to make soup with my home grown bitter gourds. For dinner one evening, I cooked the following 2 dishes.
 Bitter gourd and chicken soup.
First, I boiled red dates, goji berries, carrot, and chicken. I lower the fire to simmer until the soup is almost ready before adding the bitter gourds to simmer till soften. Add salt to taste.
 Chives and egg omelette.
 Wheat flour noodles or meesua with some spring onions.
 Scoop hot soup and ingredients over the noodles.
Hubby doesn't like meesua, so I cooked dried noodle for him. Nice dinner consisting of noodle with bitter gourd chicken soup and chive egg omelette.
 I don't know how I could miss noticing this big bitter gourd. By the time I noticed it, it was fully ripe and no longer edible. I kept the seeds for sowing future new plants.
 Every morning I water the plants but I didn't notice this! This was one of the biggest gourds.
These items were on display at the National Museum. I have the same type of ceramic plates with the same flower design.
A 14-day movement control nationwide will take effect from 18th - 31st Mac until further notice in order to curb the spread of the virus. Everyone is responsible to play his or her part during this time of pandemic crisis. Let us unite and pray.
Be alert and of sober mind.
Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
looking for someone to devour.
Resist him, standing firm in the faith,
because you know that the family of believers throughout
the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
