Lunch At Restoran Fook Kee, Sungai Siput, Ipoh

It was a Wednesday morning, end of April. We were looking forward to a foodie trip to Sungai Siput. The first after the pandemic restriction has been lifted. From my place, it is about 45 minutes drive, depending on the speed and the traffic on the road.

Morning sky at 7:05am.
We have plenty of time for our walk, watering of my garden and getting ourselves ready as the appointed time was 10:30am.
~~~~~
It was a smooth drive all the way.
As we entered the restoran to go to the air-conditioned room, we passed by these groundnuts.
We took one packet (RM4 to be charged to the bill) to try while waiting for the food to be served. We ordered the following dishes for 4 people.
We ordered a plate of fish paste noodle cooked with assorted ingredients.
Stir fried rice porridge with dried squid and etc.
This is my first time tasting stir fried rice porridge.
We like it and I hope to try to cook this one day.
Steamed mixed fish and meat balls with egg white as base.
Cuttlefish with water spinach (kangkong) and peanut sauce.
Stewed pork (wild boar) belly in clay pot.
We didn't finish this because the pork belly was still tough and not tender enough. I don't like to waste food, so I requested to pack for take-away for dinner.
All in, we paid RM100 for the lunch,
(inclusive of Chinese tea and plain water).
When we reached Ipoh, we stopped for cold dessert with ice shaving as the weather is hot and humid.
~~~~~
For dinner, I re-stewed the pork belly that was leftover from lunch. I searched my fridge and found carrot, home grown white bitter gourd and okra. I added them into the stew.
Ta da! Well balanced, all in 1 dish.
I also picked the remaining green amaranth from my garden and blanched them, using them as base for the stew dish.
No rice, just cooked dried instant noodle to go with the stewed dish.

The following photos were from a friend.

Her youngest son found the strays and brought them home to his mother.
She took them in and provide a temporary home for them.

The sweet mama and her 4 babies.
Both mama cat and her babies are now sheltered and well taken care of.

Garlic Ginger Prawns & Dong Po Yoke For Dinner

This was Friday 28th January. These few days, many will be busy marketing getting ready for the Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year. Those not celebrating also need to buy to stock up because most of the shops will be closed for a few days.

We passed by this seafood stall which is only available on Fridays. Just as expected, the prices of prawns and fishes have shot up. Good thing, I listened to the seller and bought the week earlier at a much lower price than these.
I went to collect my order from the pork seller and saw 2 chopping/cutting boards selling for RM88 per piece. My old chopping board has been with me for many, many years and it is time to replace it with a new one. I treated it by rubbing new cooking oil all over it a few times and let it rest for 2 days before I started to use it.
~~~~~
That afternoon, hubby and I had to go to town.
We stopped at the Stadium food court for lunch.
I ordered a small plate of cuttlefish with kangkong for RM10.
The next day at the food court near our house, hubby ordered a small plate cuttlefish without the kangkong for RM10. Both have their own special peanut sauce.
Cuttlefish With Peanut Sauce & Home Cooked Dinners
During this rainy season, my sweet potato leaves are growing fast. We couldn't consume fast enough and I have been distributing the leaves to my friends and neighbours. One of the ways of cooking sweet potato leaves is to blanch them and drizzled with garlic oil and soy sauce. Another way is to saute them with garlic and salt.
This is one of the many varieties of sweet potato plants.
Dinner #1
Sauteed sweet potato leaves with chopped garlic
Sprinkled with crispy deep fried chicken skin.
 I boiled chicken in coconut water together with the coconut flesh, red dates and goji berries. Yellow noodle for hubby.
 I prefer mine with mee sua (soft and fine wheat flour noodle).
This is one of our favourite snack i.e. cuttlefish and water spinach with peanut sauce.
There was a Family Fun Day event at the Polo Ground, Ipoh.
After breakfast, we stopped at the recreational park.
It was about 9:05 am and it was a sunny day.
It was a busy Saturday morning at the park.
The event had ended and many were preparing to leave.
It was hot and I stood under the shade of a tree to snap these photos.
These photos were taken against the sunlight.
After a few snapshots, we went back to our car and drove home.
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you
with inner strength through his Spirit.
Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him.
Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong.
