It was a Wednesday morning, end of April. We were looking forward to a foodie trip to Sungai Siput. The first after the pandemic restriction has been lifted. From my place, it is about 45 minutes drive, depending on the speed and the traffic on the road.
Morning sky at 7:05am.
We have plenty of time for our walk, watering of my garden and getting ourselves ready as the appointed time was 10:30am.
~~~~~
It was a smooth drive all the way.
As we entered the restoran to go to the air-conditioned room, we passed by these groundnuts.
We took one packet (RM4 to be charged to the bill) to try while waiting for the food to be served. We ordered the following dishes for 4 people.
We ordered a plate of fish paste noodle cooked with assorted ingredients.
Stir fried rice porridge with dried squid and etc.
This is my first time tasting stir fried rice porridge.
We like it and I hope to try to cook this one day.
Steamed mixed fish and meat balls with egg white as base.
Cuttlefish with water spinach (kangkong) and peanut sauce.
Stewed pork (wild boar) belly in clay pot.
We didn't finish this because the pork belly was still tough and not tender enough. I don't like to waste food, so I requested to pack for take-away for dinner.
All in, we paid RM100 for the lunch,
(inclusive of Chinese tea and plain water).
When we reached Ipoh, we stopped for cold dessert with ice shaving as the weather is hot and humid.
~~~~~
For dinner, I re-stewed the pork belly that was leftover from lunch. I searched my fridge and found carrot, home grown white bitter gourd and okra. I added them into the stew.
Ta da! Well balanced, all in 1 dish.
I also picked the remaining green amaranth from my garden and blanched them, using them as base for the stew dish.
No rice, just cooked dried instant noodle to go with the stewed dish.

Your food looks great as always, but the pics of those kitties stole my heart, so glad they were rescued! Hugs, Valerie

DeleteI never tried fried porridge before - I wonder what it tastes like. The sotong kangkong looks good - very generous with the kacang.
ReplyDeleteThe ingredients are all fried and cook . Next, pour in the porridge and stir and then serve.

Thank you, Paul. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day! Your use of the leftovers to make a whole new, delightful meal reminds me of how often i had to use leftovers when the family was home.
ReplyDeleteSweet mama cat, i hope she and all the babies will be spayed so they have no more kittens. It can be so difficult to find good homes for all of them.
My friend will take care and get them spayed once they are big enough.
DeleteThe food looks absolutely delish. Love the cat shots!
