Mooncakes Gift Sets & Weddings.

Even though the Mooncake or Lantern festival is over), I want to share this post with you. We used to buy mooncakes for the family. Then as the years go by, I only buy the mooncakes with multi-nuts for my own consumption. After that I stopped buying mooncakes. The same for this year, I didn't buy any mooncake but I was blessed with 2 mooncakes gift sets.
A lady friend came to my house bearing this pretty box.
Inside were 2 flaky skin mooncakes.
She knows I love to eat yam/taro, so she ordered these mooncakes with yam paste filling for me. One mooncake without salted egg yolk. The other one has a salted egg yolk but I forgot to snap a photo to show.
I also received another gift set from my neighbour. They are jelly mooncakes.
One has yam paste filling and the green one has longan fruit filling. Since hubby is not interested in these mooncakes, I enjoyed them all. Thanks to my friend and neighbour for their yummy mooncake gifts.

This month, I attended 2 church weddings. I didn't take any photo for the first wedding but I have some to show for the second wedding. Since I didn't ask permission, I won't be showing close up photos of the married couple here.
I love church weddings.
Seated inside a church in Ipoh, waiting for the wedding ceremony to start.
 Pretty decorations.
Taking their marriage vow.
"O Jehovah, the God of my master," he prayed,
"show kindness to my master Abraham and
help me to accomplish the purpose of my journey."

Invitation To A Fund Raising Event In Ipoh

Last Saturday morning, we attended a fund-raising event where my friend was helping out. My friend had bought quite a number of coupon booklets and she invited us to attend and she also gave us some coupon booklets for this event. Just in case I might forget, she even send a message one day earlier to remind me to attend the event.

We reached the place at about 8.30 am, all the while thinking we were early. But we were surprised that others were already there before us and we had to park our car quite a distance away.

The first stall that greeted us was a satay stall. We first took a walk round the place to look at all the stalls. On the second round, hubby went to buy the satay.
While hubby was at the satay stall, I passed by this stall full of flowers. I just need to snap a photo of these fresh flowers.

I saw a stall selling vegetable acar and I bought a packet. I was told that this acar was ordered from the Pasir Puteh market and it was very delicious. A couple sharing the same table with us also bought this vegetable acar. They complained it was very spicy but admitted it was very delicious.

BBQ Chicken (satay chicken) with cucumber cubes and big onion wedges.

Spicy peanut sauce (satay sauce) to eat with satay chicken.

Bought 2 pieces of fried chicken wings from my friend's stall to try. It was very tasty and later went back to buy 8 more pieces to take home for lunch.

I saw someone eating nasi lemak and I went looking for the stall. This was the nasi lemak that I found and bought. It had enough of sambal and the fried anchovies very crispy. All the above food were our breakfast for hubby and I. After breakfast, we went another round to snap photos.

This was the place we sat and ate our breakfast. The organizer and team had prepared a very comfortable place for us to have our food.

The place with the yellow and green balloon was the games corner.

I supposed these must be the prizes for the winners of the games.

Over here were the snacks, dried foodstuffs, breads and cakes stalls.

Very creative and beautiful handcrafts for sale.

Pillows, boosters, floor rugs, etc. for sale.

Scarfs, handkerchiefs, sarongs, etc. for sale.

We were invited to have a simple free medical checkup. First, we had to sign up, our heights were then taken and then measurement of our body mass index. Next was the needle prick to test for blood glucose. I never, never liked needles!
Lastly, testing of blood pressure, so far, so good, thank God for good health.

Finally, on the way out we stopped at our friend's stall to buy a type of home made jelly called Guilingao with the remaining coupons. Oops!!! Forgot to take photos of the Guilingao! So very sorry, no photos of herbal jelly. After tasting the home made herbal jelly, I think I am going to ask my friend's hubby to teach me how to make the herbal jelly.

And I want to say a big "Thank you" to my friend for inviting us to this event.

Do not be wise in your own eyes:
fear the LORD and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

Dim Sum Brunch At Yuk Sou Hin Restaurant, Weil Hotel, Ipoh

Thanks to the invitation from the newly opened Weil Hotel in Ipoh, we were indeed privileged to sample a thoughtfully designed and prepared menu for a delectable brunch at Yuk Sou Hin, a non halal Chinese fine dining restaurant.

Yuk Sou Hin Restaurant sets the tone for an authentic dining experience celebrating the best of contemporary Cantonese cuisine prepared by Master Chef Chung Ho Shi and his skilled team. Master Chef Chung has many years of work experience in Cantonese speciality and provincial Chinese cuisine.

From the lobby, we were ushered into a private dining room on Level 1. We were well attended to and the food introduction was clear and precise, all the time giving us ample time to take photographs before the food were being served to us individually. We bloggers have to feed our camera first.

Here is the brunch/lunch set menu. Let me introduce the food to you.

The first on the menu is a Dim Sum Combination of 4 items. From left to right:-
1) Prawn Dumpling, 2) Baked Crispy Honey Barbecued Pork Bun, 3) Siew Mai.
Steamed Prawn Dumpling - big, fresh, succulent and crunchy prawns wrapped in smooth and translucent paper thin skin.

Baked Crispy Honey Barbecued Pork Bun (Kam Pai Suet San Bao). To enjoy the thin crispy outer crust and the melt in the mouth softness, it has to be eaten when it is still hot. The filling is tasty and tender BBQ pork.

Tasty and fragrant Siew Mai with fish roe, first steamed and then pan-fried.

4th item of the Dim Sum Combination:- Steamed Vermicelli Roll with Scallop and Coriander (chee cheong fun).

Individual portion of Steam Vermicelli Roll (flat rice noodle roll). This soft and silky Steam Vermicelli Roll will not be complete without this delectable condiments to go with it.

The condiment comprises of small silvery fish, dried prawns, chili, garlic, shallots, etc.

Not to forget this addictive appetizer, consisting of guava, cherry tomato, fresh lemon rind and pickled lemon lime with taste buds awakening sauce.
Fellow bloggers getting to know one another in this small group.

Next on the menu is the Double Boiled Minced Pork Soup with Bamboo Fungus and Chinese Cabbage. The clear, soothing broth has been boiled to perfection, bringing out the natural sweetness from its ingredients.
Next, we have Master Chef's signature Smoked Duck with Lychee Wood and Tea Leaves. A pleasing aroma filled the room the moment the Smoked Duck was brought in. Special sour plum sauce to pair with the smoked duck.
This is one dish you must not miss. The skin is paper thin and crispy and there is hardly any fat left under the skin after the smoking. The meat is very tender, retaining its juiciness.
Next item is Baked Silver Cod Fish with Teriyaki Sauce.
This is good, I love this dish.

Pan-fried fish to seal its natural sweetness, sitting on pumpkin cubes, and topped with dry toasted carrot strips and sauce. Fish is very fresh and cooked just right!

Cute decoration - must take a photo of this.

Another item is the tasty Braised Ee Fu Noodles with Prawn. Specially imported noodles with big prawns - fresh, crunchy with a bouncy bite.

A great dessert to end our meal. We had Chilled Sea Coconut with Longan and Lemon Juice. It is sweet, sourish and very, very tasty.

Finally, our wonderful and satisfying meal came to an end with a group photo.

Car Roadshow & Thrilling Test Drive @ Tesco, Ipoh Garden

On Sunday, after church service my hubby and I went shopping at Tesco, Ipoh Garden. The weather was so hot, so it was nice to be in an air-conditioned place. At the entrance there was a MYVI car roadshow.
I got attracted to this blue car. Took out my mobile phone to snap a picture of it.

And also took a picture of this white car.

As we were pushing the trolley out through the entrance after we have finished shopping, we heard loud music coming from the car park area. As we walked nearer, someone handed this pamphlet to my hubby.

Saw this striking red structure at the end of the parking area. We walked closer and stood awhile to watch.

Saw some people getting into a 4x4 vehicle and it started to make its round. Then it went over these ramp where only 3 wheels will be touching the ramp and the 4th wheel will not be touching anything
Then the 4x4 vehicle started to climb up this red structure. Up and up it went.

Up it went until it reached the top, then it stopped and rested for a few minutes.

Then the vehicle came down and took a turn and reversed backward up this structure again. The drivers are really expert in handling these vehicles.

Not everyone dares to go for this test drive. But I did see some young girls going for the test drive together with the men. They must be very brave to do so. I overheard a man saying that he would be so scared, he would pee in his pants. I wondered how it would feel like to be inside the car, especially when the car is stationary up there at this angle. I didn't go for the test drive, so I wouldn't know.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.
Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged,
for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
