Growing Yam Bean or Jicama In My Garden

A friend gave me some yam bean or jicama seeds. Initially, I was half hearted but later I decided to sow some seeds in a small pot. Within a few days, the seeds sprouted. I forgot to jot down the date that I sowed the seeds.

I use black polybag bags to grow the yam bean or jicama seedlings. I placed them outside in front of my house because I have no more space in the side garden.
Flower buds of yam bean or jicama plants.
It has light purple flowers.
I don't know when exactly I show harvest for yam bean or jicama. Maybe one of these days, I will dig out the soil to check if there is any sign of yam bean in the soil.

Breakfast on a Sunday morning before going to church.
I don't want noodle, so I ordered a sweet bun sandwich.
Sweet bun with luncheon meat and fried egg.

Dinner on Sunday evening.
We had chapati.
I ordered a chicken drumstick or (ayam masak merah) and hubby ordered chicken varuval.
Dhall curry for me and chicken curry gravy for hubby.

A friend shared the following photos of a monkey she saw when she was on her morning walk one morning. Photos credited to Shirley T.
She and her husband was on their morning walk when they saw this monkey crossing the road. They noticed that this monkey has very long tail.
I used Google Lens to identify this monkey. According to Google Lens, this is the Phayre's Leaf Monkey. Instead of crossing over to the other side of the road, on seeing my friend and her husband, the monkey decided to sit down on the road.

Show me the path where I should go, O Lord;
point out the right road for me to walk.

Lunch At Restoran Fan Chen Mei, Bercham

After our visit to Gunung Lang Recreational Park which I shared in yesterday's post (please click here if you are interested), we had lunch at Restoran Fan Chen Mei, 3a, Persiaran Medan Bercham 3, Taman Bercham Baru, Ipoh. We were the first customers and we occupied the biggest table. There were 7 of us. We were early and we have plenty of time to go through the menu. Our friends finally settled for the following dishes.

Ordered 2 types of soup. One is the double steamed coconut chicken soup. I didn't snap photo of this soup.
The 2nd soup is this spicy sour fish maw soup Foo Chow style.
Tofu with minced pork.
Stinky beans with minced pork and sambal belacan.
The beans were tender and everyone enjoyed this dish.
Steamed fish (I don't know the name of this fish).
Fried soy sauce prawns.
Everyone enjoyed the delicious lunch. Hubby's friend and family will be returning to this restaurant the next evening with his siblings.

The following photos were taken at the Gunung Lang Recreational Park.
There are many monkeys on the other side of the lake but this one stood out from the rest. It wasn't afraid of people and came quite close to us.
It was watching hubby and probably expecting food from hubby.
Good thing it didn't disturb us because we were not carrying any food items except for some bottle of drinking water.
It didn't mind when I pointed my phone camera in its direction.
Finally, it decided to give me a good pose by looking directly into the camera. Thank you, my little friend.

All In One Day

Last Saturday, we had breakfast with friends and later we met up again for lunch. Our friends wanted to try the snacks at the "Tai Shu Keok" meaning "Under the Big Tree" place which is famous for all the stuffed ingredients (yong liew) and noodles, roast pork, and lots of other snacks.
 Lots of choices.
We also pre-ordered these "Neen Koh" or the deep fried glutinous rice cake with yam and sweet potato.

That evening, we had an unexpected visitor. Hubby was sitting in the first hall facing the side window. All of a sudden, he saw a big monkey coming down from the awning roof onto the garden wall.
Hubby called out to me and I rushed out but before I could get my hand phone camera ready, the monkey started to cross the road to the opposite side. It then climbed up the electric pole and walked along the electric power cable.
Hubby followed on foot to check where the monkey was going. This monkey is bigger than the monkeys we usually see in the park.
It went right up to the end of the road and went out of sight.
It could have gone into the little garden where the owners planted some bananas and other fruit trees.
A short while later hubby saw the monkey walking on the side wall of our garden. It took a bite off my long okra and threw it back into my garden (probably not to its taste) and then pluck off a small white bitter melon from its vine and disappeared behind our house. So far this monkey was seen on 2 separate occasion by hubby. I do hope it doesn't come back again to pluck my fruits and vegetables.
After having taken the late lunch of snacks, we didn't want any dinner. But our friends invited us out for a light supper which we obliged. On the way, we went to the "Concubine Lane" to take a look as we have not been there in the evening.
Most of the shops were closed and a few were in the midst of closing up for the day.
The night scene is totally different from the day scene especially compared to the croweded weekends.
After a short walk and some photos, we went back to the car. We drove to Woolley Food City for some light supper.
We ordered 2 bowls of mixed fruits ice shaving for 2 couples to share.
And 2 plates of fried noodles Penang style for 2 couples to share. The fried noodles was good and we ended up ordering an addition plate to share. That were the 3 meals we shared together for that day.

Afternoon Tea, Misty Afternoon & Monkeys.

It was a cool day and we were out in the open enjoying the cool fresh air. We were armed with our cameras ready for anything that caught our interest. We enjoyed the mist around us while in the highlands.
The time was about 3 pm.

A view of the road below (left) and the bungalows (right) with the green fence in the middle.
A photo shot before going in for our afternoon tea.
I was dreaming of coffee.....

Beautiful red and yellow flowers in harmony with each other.
Afternoon tea was served at 3.15 pm.
We had freshly baked scones, coffee & tea
We can have the scones plain or with the butter and jam provided. Some of us requested the less sweetened orange marmalade from the kitchen.
After tea, some watched TV, some played games on our smart phones, while some munched on snacks. And some took cat naps. Can you guess what I did?
By about 4.30 pm we were all out in the open air again. We happened to be standing near the fence next to the garage when we heard rustling on the tree tops.
We spotted monkeys! Big and small monkeys swinging from trees to trees! They were having a fun time and we enjoyed watching them.
Not easy to get clear shots of the monkeys because of the mist.
Some were very shy. Every time I tried to get a good focus on one big monkey, it managed to get out of focus. Sigh!
These monkeys have very long and thick tails,
This particular monkey was not shy. It was taking its own sweet time feeding on a tree top.
It was feeding on the young leaves or fruits of the tree.

Thanks to our friend who got some good close up shots of the one feeding on the tree top. All the while, it was watching us.

I wondered what was on its mind. "These funny humans haven't seen a monkey before?" We watched until they were out of our sight but we could still hear them moving among the trees.
Then we took a walk downhill and then uphill to another rest house.
The time was about 5 pm. We need to burn up some calories before our next meal!
Grandson & Grandparents
We saw many seedlings of the Giant Agave plants. Will it grow in the lowland? Anyway we collected a few for our friends to try to grow in their big compound.

This is what I have asked of God for you:
that you will be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love,
and that you will have the rich experience of knowing Christ
with real certainty and clear understanding.
For God's secret plan, now at last made know, is Christ himself.
In him lie hidden all the mighty,
untapped treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
