A New Trellis For Our Bauhinia Kockiana Vines

This was the 2nd last day (30th) of May. It was a Monday. We had workmen to put up a metal trellis to support our Bauhinia Kockian vines in front of our house / porch. The first three pictures were before the metal trellis was erected.

These Bauhiana Kockiana vines acted as a screen for the front of our house from the outside.
The vines were propped up with the supports that were put up by hubby.
Hubby used metal and pvc pipes to prop up the vines. Due to the weight of the vines, it looked like the support was going to give way and might collapse any time. So hubby had some workmen to erect a metal trellis to support the flowering vines.

Putting up the last vertical support for the trellis on a hot day.
I took this photo from my sitting room.
The workmen took less than half a day to finish the work.
One last portion (right hand side) of the vines yet to be support by the trellis.
Once the trellis was completed, hubby will have to dismantle the old support from under the vines which will take a few days to complete.
Will need some time for the vines to start growing and see how it will look like in the near future.
Now, the front of my house looks much neater and the porch area is now much brighter.

Cooking for dinner.
I bought a fresh bamboo shoot from one of the roadside vegetable sellers. It is not easy to find fresh bamboo shoots in our area.
A big fresh bamboo shoot.
I sliced off the outer layer and discarded the hard part of the shoot, leaving behind the tender part of the shoot. Then I cut the bamboo shoots into strips. Then I blanched the bamboo strips in boiling water before cooking.
Ingredients: Blanched bamboo shoot strips, pork belly strips, chopped garlic, red fermented bean curd cubes (lam yue), dark and light sauce, oyster sauce, salt and sugar to taste and spring onions.
Noodle (mee sua) in white diakon and pork soup.
Ingredients for soup: white diakon, carrot, pork, red dates and gojiberries.

The following photos were taken at the Gunung Lang Recreational Park.
We saw a pair of white peacocks in a cage.
The other one was resting at the side of the cage.
It seemed to know that there were visitors and without warning, this peacock started spread out and showed off its beautiful snow white feathers. It was a pleasant surprise for us. The white feathers look like delicate lace material.

I will be your God through all your lifetime,
yes, even when your hair is white with age.
I made you and I will care for you.
I will carry you along and be your Savior.

Sweet, Sour & Spicy Pork Leg With White Radish

When I harvested the first 3 white radish or diakon from the vegetable patch, I used them to boiled soup with pork ribs. The second time I harvested, I gave all three to a friend. For the third time, I pulled out 6 except for 4 plants which I let them be in the vegetable patch.

With the white radish or diakon, I will be cooking the above sweet, sour and spicy pork. I haven't cook this dish for a long time. So after our morning walk on Wednesday morning, I stopped to buy a pork leg. I prefer the front leg which has more meat than fat.
We started our morning walk on Wednesday morning at about 6:50am.
Lovely pink sky.
Even the cloud is pink.

Home cooked dinner.
Here are the home grown white radish.
They are of different sizes and shapes.
Ingredients used:
1 pork leg, white radish, chopped garlic, chopped shallots, about 15gm dried chillies (soaked), tamarind slices or pickled sour plum, tamarind paste, tau cheong or fermented soy bean, dark soy sauce for colouring, salt and sugar to taste. When cooked, I divide into 3 portions. 1 for our neighbour, 1 for dinner and 1 portion kept in the fridge for next day's dinner. This dish gets more flavourful and tastier the next day.
I went into the garden in search for greens. I saw one single big green amaranth. I pulled out the green amaranth and harvest some chive flowers. I sauteed them together with garlic and salt to make up this dish. Anything is better than no greens.
I took a snapshot of this unique colour flower growing in front of a house which we passed by on our morning walk. I googled and the name of this flower is Tecoma Stans Orange Jubilee.

For it is a jubilee and is to be holy for you;
eat only what is taken directly from the fields.

Assam Laksa, Curry Noodles & Daikon Harvest

This was last Wednesday morning. It was a nice, cool morning.

Morning sky at 7:08am.
~~~~~
We had breakfast at Restoran Sunrise in Menglembu.
I had assam laksa and hubby had curry noodle.
We also ordered the above fried ingredients.
Quite a heavy breakfast after finishing the fried ingredients.
These white daikon were harvested from my garden.
I wanted to boil beef soup (ngau lam tong) but there was no beef in my fridge and we couldn't get beef in my area. So, I substituted beef with pork to boil soup the "ngau lam" style. I forgot to take snapshots of the soup which we had for dinner without any rice.
So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious,
how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!
Harvesting & Cooking Daikon (White Radish) Soup For Dinner
This is the 2nd and last harvest of my daikon or white radish. This last batch were slower in their growth and some didn't even form radish but overall, I am happy with the harvest.
I will be using the daikon to boil soup. I remember reading somewhere that the leaves can also be used together to boil soup but I was not sure, so this time I didn't use the leaves.
I removed the leaves and washed the diakons.
I used the leaves as compost for my plants.
The diakons forming a pyramid with the longest at 8 inches.
I also harvested some snake beans and a small white bitter gourd/
I stir fried the white bitter gourd and snake beans with chopped garlic and salt to taste.
And we can eat the stir fried vegetables with the above homemade sambal belacan or spicy dried prawns paste.
I used the harvested daikon to boil soup with roasted pork bone which has less fat than the roasted pig trotter. This time, I added goji berries and red dates and salt to taste. The soup turned out very tasty and was just nice for a warm evening.
After being dormant for quite a long time, I saw a white rain lily bloom when I was watering the plants.
So let it grow, and don't try to squirm out of your problems.
For when your patience is finally in full bloom,
then you will be ready for anything,
strong in character, full and complete.
