Shredded Chicken & Prawn Noodle Soup & Home Cooked Yam Rice

We haven't been to Restoran Thean Chun for a long, long time because it was always crowd before the Covid-19 movement control order was enforced. Customers will be standing behind those already seated to finish their food so that they could occupy the table.

When we were there yesterday with our friends, it was suppose to be the peak lunch hours. Surprisingly, we could easily get a table for 4 people.
We ordered egg custards served with plain water.
We ordered 4 bowls of kai si hor fun or shredded chicken and prawn noodle.
And a plate of chee cheong fun or steamed rice roll for us to share.
~~~~~
Having friends over for simple home cooked dinner.
Our friend cooked the above dish.
Main ingredients: Crispy pork lard, green chilies, onions, taucu or fermented soy beans.
I sauteed home grown snake long beans with roast pork.
I made yam rice for my friends to taste.
Ingredients: rice, yam cubes, dried prawns, dried shiitake mushrooms, roast pork, chopped onions and garlic, oyster and soy sauce, salt to taste, sesame oil and cooking oil.
Sambal belacan paste condiment - blessing from my friend.
 Best condiment for the yam rice.
~~~~~
From my garden
Cockscomb flowers and cactus plant.
 First attempt growing carrot. Hoping to harvest some carrots.
Can you spot the little white butterfly or moth with black spots?
It was fluttering from leaf to leaf. I have to quickly take these snapshots before it fluttered off again.

Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,
an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim.

Grow, Harvest & Cook Cute Stubby Okra From My Garden

There are now 6 stubby okra plants growing in my garden. The seeds were given to me by a friend.
Stubby okra plant growing in my garden.
The ones in black plastic bags were the daikon plants.
These okra plants are fast growing plants and their big leaves are blocking the sun from reaching the daikon plants. I had to shift out the daikon plants.
These stubby okras matured very fast.
They need to be harvested before they become hard and fibrous.
 I have to check on the stubby okras every morning.
Time to harvest this okra.
For more tender texture, better to harvest earlier.
I get to harvest these okras once every 2 to 3 days. They are good for cooking with sambal belacan (spicy dried prawn paste).
I made sambal belacan and packed in small containers to be kept in the freezer. Whenever I needed some, I just take out 1 container to let it thaw on the lower shelf of the fridge the night before.
 I used one portion of the sambal belacan to slow stir fry in some oil. Yums!
 Steamed stubby okras and eggplants to eat with the fried sambal belacan.
I also cooked curry beef because I was craving for some.
A spicy and satisfying dinner for hubby and I.

For the Lord says, "Because he loves me, I will rescue him;
I will make him great because he trusts in my name.
When he calls on me, I will answer;
I will be with him in trouble and rescue him and honor him.
I will satisfy him with a full life and give him my salvation."

Harvesting & Cooking Daikon (White Radish) Soup For Dinner

This is the 2nd and last harvest of my daikon or white radish. This last batch were slower in their growth and some didn't even form radish but overall, I am happy with the harvest.
I will be using the daikon to boil soup. I remember reading somewhere that the leaves can also be used together to boil soup but I was not sure, so this time I didn't use the leaves.
I removed the leaves and washed the diakons.
I used the leaves as compost for my plants.
The diakons forming a pyramid with the longest at 8 inches.
I also harvested some snake beans and a small white bitter gourd/
I stir fried the white bitter gourd and snake beans with chopped garlic and salt to taste.
And we can eat the stir fried vegetables with the above homemade sambal belacan or spicy dried prawns paste.
I used the harvested daikon to boil soup with roasted pork bone which has less fat than the roasted pig trotter. This time, I added goji berries and red dates and salt to taste. The soup turned out very tasty and was just nice for a warm evening.
After being dormant for quite a long time, I saw a white rain lily bloom when I was watering the plants.

So let it grow, and don't try to squirm out of your problems.
For when your patience is finally in full bloom,
then you will be ready for anything,
strong in character, full and complete.
