Greetings From My Garden

We have mostly cloudy sky and rain for the past 2 days and this morning due to heavy rain, we didn't go for our early morning walk. Once the rain stopped, I went out to the garden to check out my plants.

 I found a wild mushroom beside a flower pot.

 Happy to see these little stubby okras.

 Long purple eggplants

 Daikon or white radish.

The last harvest and will take a rest before planting these again.

 Purple custard apple aka sugar apple.

 The birds were eating this fig before I went into the garden.

Might as well leave it to them to enjoy.

 This fig was half gone and now I have to wrap my figs in transparent plastic.

I used plastic which makes it easier for me to check on the figs.

 I managed to harvest a few of my figs.

 With the birds eyeing my figs, I cannot leave the figs to ripen on the plant.

 Once the green fig turns light yellow, it is time to harvest.

Both the birds and I are keeping a close watch on these figs.

 When exposed to the hot sun, the blue is a lighter shade.

Grow, Harvest & Cook Cute Stubby Okra From My Garden

There are now 6 stubby okra plants growing in my garden. The seeds were given to me by a friend.

The ones in black plastic bags were the daikon plants.

These okra plants are fast growing plants and their big leaves are blocking the sun from reaching the daikon plants. I had to shift out the daikon plants.

These stubby okras matured very fast.

They need to be harvested before they become hard and fibrous.

 I have to check on the stubby okras every morning.

Time to harvest this okra.

For more tender texture, better to harvest earlier.

I get to harvest these okras once every 2 to 3 days. They are good for cooking with sambal belacan (spicy dried prawn paste).

I made sambal belacan and packed in small containers to be kept in the freezer. Whenever I needed some, I just take out 1 container to let it thaw on the lower shelf of the fridge the night before.

 I used one portion of the sambal belacan to slow stir fry in some oil. Yums!

I also cooked curry beef because I was craving for some.

A spicy and satisfying dinner for hubby and I.

For the Lord says, "Because he loves me, I will rescue him;

I will make him great because he trusts in my name.

Fat Stubby Okra (Lady's Finger) - Harvesting The First Fruit.

I have planted normal green okra, long green okra, and red okra. Okra is also know as lady's fingers. One evening a friend passed me some okra seeds and she told me that this is the very short stubby okra specie. And she also gave me 2 short stubby okras to try. Definitely, I am interested and excited to grow this okra in my garden!

Can you also see some tiny white specks on the stems and leaves? These are the pests and to keep the bugs from destroying my plants, I washed the bugs off the plants with water on alternate mornings.

One morning, I harvested 3 long angled luffas and 1 short stubby okra from my garden.

It is about 3.75 inch in length and about 1.5 inch in diameter.

Since I was cooking sambal stinky beans with prawns, I added the one and only short stubby okra to the dish. Taste wise, it is more crunchy than the other okra species. Waiting for more short stubby okras to harvest.

I also used the angled luffa to cook this simple dish.

Just garlic, luffa and egg.

The dancing ladies orchid is blooming again. As the breeze blew and moved these yellow flowers, they looked are dancing ladies.
