Curry Stingray And Steamed Clams @ Restoran Yan Ming, First Garden, Ipoh

There were days when we found ourselves very free and relaxed, but there were also days when we found that there were so many events happening on the same day. I started one of those busy days (Thursday) with a breakfast date with some old friends, whom I have not seen for many months. After breakfast, I spent some time in the garden trimming and watering the plants.

I went back to the house when the sun got too hot for gardening. While resting, I checked my emails, Facebook and read the news. It seemed like I had just sat down a short while only, when my phone sounded the alarm to remind me that I have to get ready for another appointment with some of my ex-colleagues. Sometimes, we pensioners can be very busy people, right? I thank God for all my friends and ex-colleagues that we are still keeping in touch and able to enjoy each other's company. I forced my lazy bones to get up from my chair. How not to feel lazy and sleepy when the weather is so hot? I better hurry to get ready so as not to be late for my appointment.

By the time I reached home it was late and I had no mood to cook dinner. At the back of my mind, I was planning to fry the 2nd batch of arrowhead chips (nga ku) that night. I suggested to my hubby to have our dinner early so I can start early and finish frying the arrowhead chips early.

We made a second visit to Restoran Yan Ming after having enjoyed our previous dinner there few days ago.
My hubby ordered Steamed Clams (Lala). The clams were steamed in a big stainless steel plate. We could easily count the clams - MYR 12 (approx. 3.38 USD).
I meant to order something light but when I saw the table in front of me enjoying a pot of curry, I suddenly had a craving for curry and I ordered the same curry. We should have cancel the steamed clam dish and just have this curry dish alone. The clay pot curry itself is more than enough for two fo us. This is curry stingray with assorted vegetables and ingredients - MYR 26 (approx. 7.33 USD).

Cost of dinner MYR 39.70 (approx. 11.19 USD)
(incl. 2 small portion white rice + 1 glass plain water)

We enjoyed the dinner, in fact we finished the whole pot of curry but I ended up feeling terribly thirsty the whole night. Could it be the curry or the weather or could it be the standing near the hot stove frying the arrowheads chips that made me so thirsty.
After I have finished frying the arrowhead chips and washed and tidied up the kitchen, I made for myself a glass of honey and added some apple cider vinegar to it. After drinking this, I felt so much better.

"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters;
and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to Me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
(Isaiah 55:1-2, New International Version-NIV)

  1. That pot of curry looks so flavourful. The curry sauce will enable many people to eat many bowls of rice.

    1. I was tempted to go for extra rice because of the curry sauce.

  2. Honey and vinegar, is this a good remedy? What does it cure, I am interested! And what are the proportions, half and half? Maybe you will tell about it and put the recipe on a blog post! We use honey and lemon for sore throats.

    1. Ginny, I think your suggestion is a very good idea. I will keep it for one of my future blog post. For now, I will put a teaspoon of honey is a glass of water, add in a little of apple cider vinegar (depending on your preference of the strength of the vinegar), stir it and just drink it like any normal drink (room temperature).

  5. Hello, greetings and good wishes.

Lovely photos.of curry stingray and steamed clams. They look very delicious. This is the joy and thrill of eating out, to try and experience the taste of something new.

I am not sure whether your thirst was because the curry had extra salt to taste good.,

I am captivated by that quote from the Bible. Very inspiring. It also reminded me of another quote which says --- WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN IF HE GAINS THE WHOLE WORLD BUT SUFFER THE LOSS OF HIS OWN SOUL.

    Have a lovely Sunday,

    1. Thank you, Joseph for the bible verse. My thirst could be the salt monosodium glutamate in the curry. Greetings and good wishes to you too.

  7. Nancy, many people think that retirees have nothing to do. How wrong they are! It is good that you have your friends and activities to keep you occupied. Or else life would be boring, eh?

    1. Many still thinks that once we retire, we have plenty of time. But I have found that I am busier now that I have retired that when I was still working. I think it depends on individual.

    1. Yes, 1st Gdn. When I saw the big plate with the countable clams, I smiled. Hahahaa, actually it will be so much cheaper if we cook the clams at home.
